Chapter 36

Hey, Jesse, I need to hear your sweet voice so pick up your phone.

Jesse smiled as she answered her phone, “When did you change the ring tone?”

“While you were sleeping Saturday night.  Were you asleep?”

“No, just lying in bed watching a little television.”

“Good girl.”

“What are you doing?”

“Getting ready to go to bed.  It’s going to be lonely without you.”

“I know.  It’s strange to not have you here with me.”

“How was your flight?”

“I don’t remember.  I slept the entire way.”

Richie paused for a second, then said, “Tony told me your eyes were red when he met you at the gate.”

Jesse was silent not wanting to reveal the tears that were falling now.

“Jess, please don’t cry,” he said softly.

“I miss you so much and it’s only been a few hours,” she whispered tearfully.  “How am I going to make it when I can’t travel with you?”

“I know you miss me and I miss you too.  What are you wearing?”

“The shirt you wore to dinner Monday night.”

“Can you smell my cologne?”

“Uh huh.”

“Cut the TV off and pull the covers tight around you.”

“Okay.”

“Close your eyes and imagine last night, my arms wrapped around you tight.  Can you feel them?”

“Uh huh.”

Richie began to sing softly, ‘I Have But One Heart’ by Dean Martin.  When he finished, he whispered, “Sweet dreams, baby….’T’, get the phone and cut off the light.”

“Got it, boss.  See you later.”
