JRWCA Judging Criteria

 

I.          Design and Originality

.                      -Complexity of design

 -Proper proportions, anatomy, balance, correctness

 `-Quality of details (difficulty to reach certain areas)

 -Best use of wood (grain, shape of wood)

 

II.           Skilled Execution and Technical Difficulty

‑Good carving techniques

-Execution of detail

-Texturing, clean cuts, proper undercutting

-Quality of joints, if laminated

 

III.       Surface Finish

• Application of finish

' - Removal of blemishes

                          -Choice of finish (enhancement of piece)

                          -Quality of painting technique (if painted)

 

IV.       Final Presentation

• Decorative value

                        • Continuity

                       - Worthiness of exhibit

                       -Overall impact

 

Point System for Judging Criteria

 

I.          Maximum Points

 

Each entry shall be judged on the above four criteria and may receive up to 10 points per criterion (maximum score = 40 points).

 

II.        Minimum Qualifying Scores

 

                A.        The carving with the highest number of points in each category shall receive 1st place, next     highest 2nd place and 3rd the 3rd highest number of points
