How We Met
Well, I was working at Sweet Briar during the summer of 1997, doing radio
astronomy research. Dan was finishing up his degree by taking a couple of
classes at Lynchburg College. He found he was more productive if he came
in to Sweet Briar (where his father works as a Physics professor) to do his
work. We were introduced through a mutual friend, and the rest, as they say,
is history!
Our Engagement
After dating for about 10 months, Dan & I started to "casually" discuss the
idea of marriage. After I felt that this casual discussion had gone far enough,
I told him that he couldn't talk about marrying me anymore, unless he was going
to propose, which included giving me a ring! He said that he fully intended to
get me a ring, and propose, but that I would have to be willing to wait, because
it would take him a while to save up that kind of money.
But, just two short weeks later, he surprised me by proposing at his parents house
just a few minutes before we were all going to leave to attend at theater
production at Sweet Briar. I was so surprised. I had expected to wait months
for a proposal, but only waited two weeks! He was able to put it together so
quickly, because Dan's mom gave him her first enagement ring to give to me.
