Here is a picture of where I grew up in the "hollers" of West Virginia. This is Carbondale, WV probably around 1950. The large building in the center was the company store where we bought our coke and candy with coal script and ask for it to be put in a "poke". In the background you can see the coke ovens and the coal tipple.
