paint Foundation Art I - This class is open to all students. Students study drawing, sculpture, graphics, art history and theory, crafts, ceramics, and painting. Students participate in many hands-on activities. Field trips are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning.

paint Foundation Art II - This class with a prerequisite of Art I is open to 10th-12th graders. Students study each area in more depth. Each of the classes expands on the experiences and techniques previously learned. Students participate in many hands-on activities. Field trips are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning.

 

paint Advanced Art I - This class with a prerequisite of Art I and II is open to 10th-12th graders. Students begin working with more advanced media such as oil paint, and silkscreen printing. The students expand upon and further develop their skills. Students participate in many hands-on activities. Field trips are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning.

 

paint Advanced Art II - This class with a prerequisite of Art I, II, and III is open to 11th and 12th graders. Again, the student works towards developing skills further. Students also work with new media such as intaglio printing. At this level, the student begins to develop some expertise in areas of interest. Students participate in many hand-on activities. Field trips are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning.

 

paint Studio Art - This class is open the 11th and 12th graders. The educator works with students individually at this level. Students are allowed to chose their media. The student is expected to research and become more knowledgeable about the media in which they chose to work. The student will work somewhat independently. Students participate in many hands-on activities. Field trips are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning.

computerGraphic Design I- Graphics I is open to 11th and 12th graders. No previous art experience is required. Students are instructed in the areas of video and computer design. Computer software included is Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Typestyler, Avid Cinema, Painter, QuarkXpress, ClarisWorks, Adobe Premier, and Adobe PageMill. Field trips such as trips to area printing businesses are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning. Internships are also arranged for those students who would like to participate.

computerGraphic Design II - Graphics II (Dual Enrollment) is open to 12th graders who have successfully completed Graphics I. Students will receive 8 college credits from Patrick Henry Community College. Students are given advanced instruction in the areas of video and computer design. Projects are completed for area businesses and the school district. Computer software included is Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Typestyler, Painter, QuarkXpress, ClarisWorks, Adobe Premier, Avid Cinema, and Adobe PageMill. Field trips such as trips to area printing businesses are taken as a means of expanding classroom learning. Internships are also arranged for those students who would like to participate.

National Art Honor Society

Bassett High School is chapter #412 of the National Art Honor Society. Students are chosen for this group by art scholarship, character, and service. This group sponsors a major field trip each year. They also decorate for prom and sponsor fundraisers for art. Seniors wear special cords at graduation to denote their membership in the National Art Honor Society.
