Um Al-Qura
Islamic School Safe School Policy
The mission of Um Al-Qura Islamic School
is to provide "learning environments that are safe, nurturing,
positive and respectful."
Such learning environment is
peaceful and welcoming for all. We must be free of negative factors
such as abuse, bullying, discrimination, intimidation, hateful words
and deeds and physical violence in any form. We must also clearly
demonstrate respect for human rights and social justice and promote
the values needed to develop responsible members of a democratic
society.
Um Al-Qura Islamic School:
< is committed to providing a safe
learning and working environment for all students, staff, and visitors
to our school;
< will include in its Safe School Policy
clear expectations for all students, parents, and staff, which will be
communicated on a regular and ongoing basis;
< will ensure that our school
establishes a safe school committee and develop a code of behaviour
and a safe school plan;
< will incorporate violence prevention
and peaceful problem solving into the curriculum beginning in
kindergarten;
< expects its students,
parents/guardians, employees, and community members to participate
actively as partners in maintaining a safe learning and work
environment in its schools, offices and work sites.
< will not tolerate on school property,
on school contracted transportation:

violence of any
kind
-
the possession
or presence of weapons
-
harmful,
threatening, or actual acts of violence or other unlawful acts;

verbal abuse in
any form
-
the presence of
any intruder or any activity that places the safety of students,
staff, or visitors at risk
< will ensure that school officials and
staff respond appropriately, without delay, and in a consistent
fashion when violent incidents threaten the safety and security of our
school and the well-being of our students, staff, and larger
community;
< will ensure that there are serious
consequences to any student who commits a violent act, up to and
including expulsions and outlined in the Education Act;
< acknowledges its responsibility to
educate all students, including those who commit violent acts, and to
provide these students with opportunities to attend programs and
access services appropriate to their academic and social/emotional
needs;
Laser
Pointers
Laser pointers are not permitted on
school property and will be confiscated. Bringing laser pointers to
school may result in a suspension in accordance with the Education
Act.
Vandalism
Um Al-Qura Islamic School rules are
founded on the belief that education is a right which carries certain
responsibilities. When it has been confirmed that students has
destroyed or defaced school property that student is responsible for
restitution costs.
Policy on
Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination for Students
Um Al-Qura Policy describes types of
bullying, harassing and discriminatory behaviour.
Through the policy,
students will be encouraged to become more knowledgeable about the
problem of harassment and their rights responsibilities, how to make a
complaint, and what consequences to expect if they harass others.
Staff will assist students in making a complaint if they are being
victimized.

Principal's Message
Assalamu Alaikum
and welcome to Um Al-Qura Islamic School!
Long ago, in some far away land,
technologists sprayed the forests to get rid of the mosquitoes. They
used DDT. The result set off an unexpected chain reaction. Cockroaches
ate the poisoned mosquitoes and became ill and slow-moving. In turn,
lizards caught them. But they too became ill and could no longer feed
upon an insect, which consumed the straw thatching of the native's
huts. The catastrophic result for the unsuspecting natives was that
their roofs fell down upon their heads. Hence the term, according to
legend, "plan ahead".
Good planning could have prevented
this. Your agenda book is your planner. It contains a calendar, our
code of conduct and our basic school policies.
If you plan your time well, you will
enjoy both academic and personal success and find the time to balance
your academic goals with enriching social opportunities at Um Al-Qura
Islamic School.
So welcome to the 3rd year at Um Al-Qura
Islamic School. Remember, your success is our success; the experiences
you provide for yourself through good time management will ultimately
bring rewards to yourself, your family and friends, and to Um Al-Qura
