Is this a good breed for first time dog owners?

     In a word, maybe! These are delightful dogs, good with families, and very adaptable. Any puppy requires effort and commitment from the owner, if a person is not willing to make this small commitment then they should not have a puppy.

 
    Dog ownership, in general, should not be entered into lightly and this breed is no exception.  Take time to do your research and discuss the responsibilities with all your family members.

Are Wheaties indoor or outdoor dogs?

     Although Softies were originally developed as farm dogs, they do best when housed indoors and treated as one of the family. The Soft Coated Wheaten is a  "people" dog and will always want to be where the family is. Many breeders recommend that Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers sleep indoors because they make excellent house pets.

     Yet they love to go out doors to play and to be loose or unattended a fenced yard is a must.
