The most difficult with the movies from the book Lord Of The Rings was making the character Gollum. He couldn’t be played by a person because how he looked like. It takes many ours to make such a face. And it’s more difficult to have a person to do the thinks that Gollum do. Climbing vertical down a mountainside is impossible for a human. So Peter Jackson & Co early decided that Gollum will be a computer-character and they only needed a voice for him. But they didn’t know that they needed so much more.

Not many people know how much work that has been lies behind Gollum. It’s not just the most developed computer-character ever made. The first Gollum that where made was nothing like the Gollum we have seen in the movies. Jackson & Co made a little seen with the first Gollum and send it to New Line because they wanted to see if they where able to make such a character as Gollum. But what New Line didn’t know was that Gollum would be ten times better then the Gollum they had seen.

There are, sort of speak, a man behind the creature Gollum. And his mane is Andy Serkis. He’s half man, half Gollum. Peter Jackson & Co was searching for a voice to their computer-character. Andy Serkis was contacted by his agent who said that Peter was searching for a voice for a computer-character. But Andy would rather have a role in the movie where he plays a part that is seen on the screen. So he sat down and read the book. He was shocked when he realized that Gollum was one of the most important characters in the book. So he went to Peter and auditioned. They sad it would take about 3 weeks. Peter was amazed what Andy could do with his voice. And he cast him almost at the spot. His voice was so unique. And it was on the audition Peter Jackson discovered that he needed something they hade never thought about. The voice, the gimmick and the Gollum himself was related. So they found out they needed Andy Serkis more then they thought.

The story when Andy came to the set was really funny. No one knew ho he was, or what he was doing here. He was running and crawling around in his white lycrasuit. Andy was a very active man. He was crawling on the mountainside his first evening.
