The purpose of this site is to keep all members of the Merian family informed as to what is going on in the family.
And, with our new found relatives in France, a way to keep in touch with each other.
Your suggestions on what to do with this site will be greatly appreciated.
I apologize for not updating recently, but I am working on a new site. I have been able to locate all the children of Jean and Brigitta, and have set up a Virtual Cemetery at Find a grave
I have added a link for Oberentzen, they now have a website, it has a wonderful tour of the town using panoramic moveable jpegs. (this site is in French, however)
I have uploaded a new family tree, please let me know of any changes that need to be made, the last one was not very user friendly.
I have added some photos of the Merian Homestead in Castroville, the photos from the Library of Congress are the oldest known photos of the house.
Check out the Alsace Webcam page.
I am now the founder of the Alsatian Genealogy Forum at Yahoo! Check it out and feel free to join.
I am finished transcribing all info I have on Jean Merian to the Internet, check the history page to see what I have.
Read the abstract of the description of the Merian house in Castrovile from the Texas Historic Commision!
There is now an online version of The Merian Family Geneology at www.my-ged.com/merian.
Jean Merian emigrated from Oberentzen, Alsace to Texas in 1849. Joseph Merian, his brother, remained in Alsace. Many of Jean's descendants still live in the Castroville area and many of Joseph's descendants still live in the area around Oberentzen, Alsace.
Please sign the guest book and post your email address so we can correspond with each other.
