Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Blondie O'Hara, a 1930s Western Union worker, she suffers from many delusions. She thinks she looks like Jean Harlow, that her husband Johnny (Dermot Mulroney) loves her, and that if she acts as tough as Harlow or Cagney, she'll get what she wants. Right now, she wants to free her foolish hubby from Seldom Seen (Harry Belafonte), a gangster and jazz club owner who kidnaps Johnny after Johnny rips him off. To free him, Blondie embarks on an ill-conceived scheme to pressure her Congressman by kidnapping his laudanum-dazed wife (Miranda Richardson). They embark on a journey that takes them all over the town. The two very different women begin to understand each other in a weird little way. Miranda does a great job of acting "out of it" and clinging to her little bottle of laudanum. The ending will really suprise you, I didn't quite understand it but the movie is definately worth watching.
