Little River Nostalgia Nationals Results

April 2nd - Temple, Texas

The 2016 SHRA nostalgia drag racing series, presented by MalloryPrint.com, kicked off under sunny comfortable skies at Little River Dragway in Temple, Texas on Saturday, April 2nd. This event was sponsored by Passtime GPS by TraxAuto and welcomed a series record 124 cars to the property for competition. A great crowd packed the stands at Little River Dragway for the season opener and after two time trials for all six SHRA classes; it was time to get down to business as eliminations got underway.

The rounds dwindled down to the finals and in Nostalgia Super Stock action, Tony Smith took home his second straight event win dating back to the SHRA Finals of last season. Smith met Doug Watkins in the final round and Watkins went -.138 red while Smith posted a 7.10 at 96 mph to take the win on his 7.05 dial. Old School Electronics came down to Mario Quinterros' orange 1955 Chevy against Dean Johnson's sleek 1977 Chevy Vega. Quinterros had the better reaction time and his 6.65 at 94 mph on a 6.63 dial held off Johnson's breakout 5.49 on a 5.50 dial, marking Quinterros' first career SHRA event win.

Nostalgia Eliminator 3 welcomed number one qualifier Josh Moseley to the final round to take on Dustin Bradford. Both cars shooting for the 5.50 index, Bradford took a slight starting line advantage but his 5.70 was no match for Moseley's dead on 5.509 at 118 mph as Moseley claimed NE 3 victory. Nostalgia Eliminator 2 boiled down to 2013 class Champion Bee Godwin against Jason Scott. Scott's win light came on early when Godwin went -.054 red, seconds later the unthinkable happened as Godwin suffered an apparent heart attack in the shutdown area which tragically ended his life.

SHRA competition was ended for the day and the two remaining finals (Nostalgia Eliminator 1 and Old School No Electronics) will be run at the next event, May 7th at North Star Dragway. Chris Graves and Richard Brady are in the final of NE 1 with Jim Baughan and Randy Stephens in the final of Old School No Electronics. The SHRA stepped up a big way in this tragedy coming together as a family to cope with this unexpected loss. Our sincere condolences go out to the Godwin family and the many fellow racers who shared friendship with Bee Godwin. He was an instrumental part in the development of the SHRA series and will be missed by many in the drag racing community.
