AW's Joe & Paulina Make Love
by Lara De Losh (SPW: 10/95)

ANOTHER WORLD'S JOE FINDS THE SHOE ON the other foot this week when Paulina, for whom he has been pining for months, pulls out all the stops to win him back. She succeeds, and the two finally make love.

"Paulina makes a commercial to sell herself to Joe," says Joe Barbara (Joe). "They've been assigned to work together on the opening of the new hospital wing, and Paulina is making it hard on Joe, not giving him an inch. The two of them end up alone together at KBAY: and Joe is sitting there making phone calls. All of the sudden he hears: 'Hey; everybody out there in TV land,' and he turns and Paulina's face is on all the station monitors. It's a takeoff of a Crazy Eddy commercial--Crazy Paulina: 'Come on down to Crazy Paulina's for love, laughs and a wonderful rest-of-your-life.' "

It works. '"At the end of the commercial she appears in the doorway; and that's what starts the romantic end of the night," Barbara says, noting that the sequence marks his first daytime love scene. The two head back to Joe's place, where "you see them in the hallway; kissing and kind of fumbling their way to the door. They get to the door and Joe, being a gentleman, stops for a moment and says, 'I used to make model airplanes in this room, which isn't exactly romantic.' PauIina then says, 'How much you want to bet I can change that?' And the rest, as they say; is history."

Post-lovemaking, Joe pops the question, and Paulina happily accepts. "He is ecstatic," Barbara says. "Joe really believed Paulina loved him all along, and he wanted her to come to him, which is why he didn't pressure her into choosing between him and Jake. He basically left the ball in her court."

Paulina's decision doesn't sit too well with Jake, and his interference poses a huge threat to Joe and Paulina's relationship. "Right now, Joe thinks everything is cool because she has figured out that he is what she wants," says Barbara. "It feels good at this point, but there are going to be moments when Joe senses that the flame between Jake and Paulina isn't completely snuffed."

Joe gets a whiff of that when he and Paulina retrieve her things from the townhouse and are confronted by an angry Jake. "Tempers flare, insults fly--the usual stuff between Joe and Jake," laughs Barbara. Tensions mount later when Joe and Jake find themselves in an "uncomfortable but humorous situation." #
