A Letter from Joher Coleman

On June 5th, 2002, I received a pleasant surprise.  In my inbox was an email from Joher Coleman, most famous for playing Jawarhalal on our beloved "Head Of The Class."  He expressed warm regards and also shared a humorous anecdote about his former role ("If I had a dime for every time someone thought I was on 'Saved By The Bell'...).  Joher then sent this follow-up email, which he has graciously allowed me to post on this website.  So here it is, for your enjoyment:

Good to hear from you.

Thanks again for thinking of "Head of the Class" after all these years. I was not aware that TV Land was picking it up, though I believe Nick At Night had it on high-rotation about two years ago.

My most recent acting work has been in theatre. I achieved one of my dreams of doing Shakespeare in a production of "Romeo & Juliet"; I played the former. Had great fun playing a Puerto Rican character in Ping Chong's "Undesirable Elements". We did some touring in the Midwest.

You asked me about my reflections on doing "Head of the Class"...

• Jawaharlal was a wonderful character and I'm glad I played him.

• I think fondly of some of the fine directors I worked with in my three
years: Lee Shallat Chemel (lovely and real), Andy Weyman (a gentleman), John Tracy (great eye for comedy). Directors are such an important part of the actor's experience.

• A friend living in Switzerland once told me that they would air an episode of "Head of the Class" three times in three different languages. Talk about ego gratification.

• Loved being in teen magazines! My secret ingredients to looking great? Repeat after me: "Gel, gel, gel."

I'll check out the rest of your site. I, too, love music.

My regards to you and your readers!

-Joher

PS: Down with "The Beautiful People". NERDS RULE!

Thanks, Joher!!!
