Sonny & Carly #6  August 28 - November 21, 2000

Carly opens the door to find Jason standing there. She tells him to never leave her again and then she holds him close, telling him that she needs him. He holds her with tears in his eyes and she tells him she thought about him every day and he says he did too. He hands her a teddy bear for the new baby and then she tells him everything about how she lost the baby, and then how Sonny helped her out so much. She tells Jason about her plan to help Sonny back and then how its more of a mess than ever. Jason tells Carly that he left town for a number of reasons. He also tells her that he tracked down the arsonist and that he was happy for her being pregnant, cause he always knew that there was no future for him and her.

Alexis tells Sonny that he has to marry Carly, but he refuses to do this in order to save himself. He tells her what happened the last time he did that, as he married Lily that way and lost Brenda who he really loved, and then he also lost Lily and their baby in the car bomb, and he wont do that again. He tells her that she's a smart attorney and that she will find another way. He leaves her and heads back to the penthouse, walking in to find Jason sitting there with Carly and Michael.

Sonny returned to his penthouse to find Jason visiting with Michael and Carly. Sonny stands in the doorway watching the cozy scene of the threesome on the couch with Jason talking to Michael who is sitting on his lap with Carly curled up next to him. Sonny quietly turns to leave when Michael calls out, "Uncle Sonny".

Later, Sonny and Jason discussed the death of the baby and Sonny told Jason that Carly helped him through a difficult time. Sonny told Jason his side of the story about his arrest and how Carly was involved. Sonny shared with Jason that he could never trust Carly again. Sonny then caught Carly eavesdropping on his and Jason's conversation. Sonny asks her, "Have you ever NOT been caught?". As Carly, Sonny and Jason finished a toast, Alexis came over and was surprised to see Jason. Jason then shared with Alexis how he saw her poster at a Texas bar and she changing over a bar in Texas dressed in her underwear. She is horrified. Alexis shared her fears that the "Eddie's Angel" saga will harm Sonny's defense. Jason turned down Sonny and Carly's invite to sleep over and heads to Jake's for the night. Alexis insisted that Sonny marries Carly to save himself and she was very upset when he told her that he did not tell Carly about her plan.

Carly is on the phone trying to find Jason when Sonny gets home. She quickly hangs up the phone when he walks in and asks him if he knows where Jason is. Sonny tells Carly that he and Jason have a meeting later. Carly asks if Jason is coming to the penthouse and Sonny informs her that the meeting is scheduled for somewhere else because Carly has proven that she cannot be trusted. This sets off another heated discussion between Sonny and Carly and her good intentions and his inability to forgive or understand. Carly tells Sonny that now that Jason is back everything will be okay because her and Jason and Michael can move back into Jason's penthouse (as soon as he "evicts" Alexis, that is). Then Carly will no longer be an "obligation" that Sonny has to put up with and he can get on with his life. They continue to argue about the arrest and Carly's intentions. Carly informs Sonny that she has already told Jason every sordid detail about the arrest and that Jason knew that Carly was trying to help Sonny. Carly tells Sonny that no matter how hard he tries he will not be able to make Jason hate Carly. Carly is very insistent that now that Jason is back, everything will be fine. Sonny tells Carly that she is living in a dream world! He reminds her that he is still facing 15 years for drug trafficking charges.

Carly goes to visit Lila to tell her that Jason is back in town and to talk to her about her feelings for both Sonny and Jason. As she is pouring out her soul to Lila, Edward overhears and comes running into the room announcing that Jason is back and calls for Reginald to get the family together so they can all hear the wonderful news! In typical Q fashion, the celebration turns into a shouting match at which point Carly decides to make a quiet exit, telling Lila that Jason will be over soon to visit her.

Sonny and Jason are alone on the docks and they discuss Carly. Sonny tells Jason about some of the things Carly has pulled and why she did them. Jason tells Sonny that he is beginning to understand the way Carly's mind works. Sonny denies having feelings for Carly, but Jason can see through it. Sonny tries to tell Jason that the only reason he hasn't sent Carly away is because he promised Jason that he would take care of her and Michael. Jason tells him he is lying. Then Sonny tells Jason that Alexis told him that the only way for him to keep Carly from testifying and thus him going to prison is for Sonny and Carly to get married. Sonny looks into Jason's eyes as he says this and waits for Jason's reaction. Jason tells Sonny that Carly is not Lily and maybe Sonny and Carly could learn to be happy together. Sonny asks Jason how he can be so "matter of fact" when Sonny knows that Carly is in love with Jason and that Jason also has strong feelings for Carly. Jason says that if marrying Carly will keep Sonny out of prison, then that is what Sonny has to do! Sonny and Jason have a chat about Mike and his gambling problem. Jason tries to persuade Sonny to give Mike a chance and listen to his side of the gambling/Sorrel story.

Carly comes into Kelly’s to visit Liz. Carly tells her to stay away from Jason, little girl Carly threatens! Liz tells her to “Bring It On!” Carly hits Jason up for help. She wants to leave the penthouse and be with Jason and baby Michael. She begins to fill Jason in on more events that he has missed.

Alexis meets Sonny on the docks, she is in disguise trying to avoid reporters. Taggert and Mac come along and ask Sonny to cut a deal and confess; Alexis and Sonny have “no comment”. Alexis tells Sonny that she came up with a new plan, to send Carly out of the country with Jason (and of course little Michael). It’s either that, or marry Carly. Sonny comes back to the penthouse and Carly tells him that she is going to leave with Jason. Sonny tells her that she isn't going to be with Jason that she is gong to marry him! Carly asked in a soft, hopeful voice, "You still want to marry me?" But Sonny, totally unable or unwilling to see Carly's feelings replies with a very matter-of-fact tone, "There's no other way to keep you from testifying!" Carly is hurt but won't let Sonny know that (and vice-versa). Carly told Sonny that she couldn't marry him--not because she was in love with Jason, but because Sonny wasn't in love with her. Carly declared to Sonny that she would do anything she could to help him, but not as his wife. She refuses to marry a man who hates her (he doesn't disagree with this statement).

Since Sonny wouldn't do it, Alexis asked Jason if he would take Carly out of the country. Jason agreed to discuss the situation with Carly and Sonny. Johnny announces Alexis. She cracks, "Johnny I live across the hall you don't need to announce me like I'm a foreign dignitary." Sonny defends that he likes having his guests announced. Alexis is surprised that Sonny hasn't talked to Jason about taking Carly out of the country yet. He tells her that it isn't going to work. He wants to know how soon he has to marry Carly. Sonny deflected Alexis's question about his love for Carly and said that his relationship with Carly was complicated, but he knew what he was getting into. Alexis still thought the best course of action was for Jason to take Michael and Carly away. Sonny tells her that he and Carly will always have a bond because of the baby they lost. Alexis points out that Jason actually seems to like Carly and maybe he wouldn't mind going away with her. Sonny adamantly says, "NO!" Alexis is surprised and asks, "Why not? Maybe Jason wouldn't mind." Sonny obviously hates the idea.

Carly tells Lila how warm and kind Sony can be but when he feels betrayed there is no going back that it will never be the same. She tells Lila that they could be happy if Sonny could just accept what they have been them. After talking to Lila, Carly ran into A.J. who took great pleasure in taunting her. Carly bit back by telling A.J. that Jason was back and would see to it that A.J. got nowhere near Michael. A.J. threatened Carly when she compared him to Jason and told A.J. he was inferior in every way to his brother.

Sept 7 - Sonny thanks Jason for the timely tip about Carlos. As they discuss their options, Sonny tells Jason he won't stand in the way if he wants to take Carly and Michael out of the country. Jason says he will to help Sonny but Sonny says only if Jason wants to. Sonny asks Jason if he loves Carly, he answers "yes". Sonny has a look of pain at the thought of losing Carly. Jason continues to say though that he doesn't love Carly the way she wants to be loved. Sonny retorts that no one can ever love Carly as much as she wants. Jason clarifies that he loves Carly but isn't in love with her.

Carly tells Sonny she will leave the country with Jason as he will help her like he always does. She walks out, going to Jason. After she leaves Sonny angrily rips up a pad of paper. Mike visits Sonny who reams him for putting Carly's life in danger. Mike wonders if Carly knows how much Sonny cares about her. It irritates Sonny that he has allowed his feelings for her to show.

Carly trails Jason to Jake's, where she coaxes him out onto the dance floor in hopes of rekindling a spark. Carly was still trying to convince Jason to take her and Michael out of the country. She used the “family” trump card, but Jason wouldn’t go for it. He told her she was fooling herself that she’d be happy forever with him. He reminded her of the days when she declared herself in love with Tony. She said that was totally different, but Jason said it really wasn’t. He then asked her if she thought they’d be living together as lovers. When she enthusiastically responded yes, he shot her down by telling her that it would never work. She seductively reminded him of how good sex was between them and then promised it would be even better now. Jason told her that she would destroy him if they became lovers. He said he loved her and would always be there to “save” her.

Carly returns and tells Sonny that he is off the hook. He looks like he was kicked in the stomach. She then lays into him that Jason refused to take her. Sonny has a hard time containing his joy at that news. She is irate and tells him that she isn't a gift to be passed back and forth that she gets a vote. He tells her to go ahead and pick either being married to him or leaving with Jason. She says, "Oh great, a man who doesn't want me or marry a man who hates me." She picks Sonny as at least he is in it for himself (or so she says). She is still hurting, with tears in her eyes. Sonny has given her no indication that he wants to marry nor even that he cares at all for her. But he hides a smile when she agrees to marry him. Sonny tells her that he doesn't want her to feel like a prisoner. he doesn't want that for Michael. He points out that they learned to live with each other after the baby's death. She points out that he treats her like the enemy. They talk and she reminds him again that she saw a chance to do something good for him and she took it but she guesses that isn't good enough for him. They come to a truce and make a deal to try and make this work. They are very stiff and formal with each other at first, but eventually they begin to relax and even begin to tease and joke with each other. Sonny, (with those dimples of his.... oh ya....) grins and says, "So, it's a deal?" to Carly and sticks out his hand. Carly shakes his hand, smiling, and says, "Deal!". Later the two are discussing who will cook dinner (Carly offering boxed Mac'n'Cheese vs. Sonny offering fresh grilled Sea Bass) when the phone rings and they learn that Jason has been arrested. Carly grabs her purse and tells Sonny, "Let's go". Sonny knows he cannot stop Carly from going to try and help Jason, but he asks her to please promise him that she will stay calm and also that she will NOT tell ANYONE about their impending marriage so that the PCPD won't try and get a statement from her before they can tie the knot. Carly agrees and they head out the door.

Carly freaks on Dara about Jason being arrested. Sonny lets her go off figuring that she will be annoying enough that they might release Jason just to get rid of her. Jason teases her asking if she is going to take out a gun and shoot someone. Sonny tells Jason that he will put his men on Sorel in case Zander shows up there. Sonny sets up a meeting with Sorel and Carly doesn't want him to go. Sonny tried to get information from Sorel about Zander even though Carly insisted that he leave it to the police and Emily's family.

Bobbie visited Carly at the Penthouse and Carly filled her in on her upcoming marriage to Sonny. Bobbie didn't think Carly should marry Sonny, she wanted Carly to marry for love. Bobbie boiled it down to a simple question of who Carly truly wanted, Jason or Sonny. Carly believed that Jason was her soul mate, but she couldn't deny that she clicked with Sonny. Bobbie thought that Carly's future was with Sonny, but only if she let Jason go. Alexis gave Sonny and Carly the news that the deposition had been moved up to the following day and they had to get married immediately, that very night

Alexis informs Carly and Sonny that they must get married tonight because the deposition is moved up to tomorrow. Sonny gives Carly the option of backing out, but she doesn’t take it. Carly doesn’t want to have a second loveless marriage. She looks very happy when Sonny pulls out a huge diamond! Jason shows up and is asked to give the bride away. He agrees and tells Sonny that he is really forgiven. Carly actually seems excited. Alexis and Jason act as witnesses and the wedding begins. In the middle of Sonny’s vows, Carly blurts out the she can’t do it. Nobody looks surprised! She runs upstairs. Jason follows to console Carly while Sonny reiterated to Alexis that he wasn't going to force Carly into marriage. Jason tried to persuade Carly into believing that Sonny really wanted to marry her. Sonny overheard her say that she would marry Sonny, but only because Jason wanted her to. Jason bets her $20 that she will be happy with Sonny. After Jason calmed Carly down, she and Sonny exchanged vows at last. Officially married, Carly and Sonny directed Jason and Alexis to stay for a small celebration. Sonny later thanked Jason for persuading Carly to go through with the wedding. Jason said he did it because he knew Carly and Sonny would be happy together. Alexis and Carly had a frank talk and Alexis told her that she believed Carly had deeper feelings for Sonny. Carly respected her opinion because she knew that Sonny did. Even though everyone left, Sonny told Carly he would give her whatever kind of celebration she wanted. He seductively asks her what she would like to do, flashing those dimples. Sonny cooked a meal for Carly and had a nice evening together. After dinner, he suggestively asks her what she would like for dessert. She laughs and throws her napkin at him, not answering.

Carly comes in and tries to rub in Liz's face that she and Sonny got married but Liz says that Jason already told her. A catty argument ensues. Mike comes in and Carly tells him about the marriage. Carly tells him to go ahead and take his best shot, but Mike surprises her when he says that Carly seems to make Sonny happy. Later Bobbie comes into Kelly's. Carly asks her if she thinks Sonny might care for her. Bobby points out that Sonny has changed his life for her and he could have easily left town if he wanted to. Bobbie confesses the reason she didn't allow her to stay at the brownstone was to push the two of them back together as she realizes how stubborn they both are. She also observes they are both afraid to admit their feelings as they are afraid of being hurt. Bobbie encourages Carly to meet Sonny half way

Carly tells Jason that she is afraid to tell Sonny she wants to make their marriage work. She is afraid he will laugh at her. She returns home from shopping with a little silk red top to wear for Sonny that evening. Jason helps her create a romantic dinner complete with candles, champagne, and lobster dinner (catered of course). Sonny is surprised to see the setting, Carly looking gorgeous and tentative. She teases him that she thinks he has no rhythm and has been trying to hide it, which is why he has never danced with her. He gives her a necklace. She says she can't believe he would do that for her. He asks "Why not? You’re my wife." He pulls her in for a passionate kiss. Sonny puts the necklace around her neck and looks deeply into her eyes and says "It's beautiful". They sit down and enjoy their dinner, well Sonny does. Carly just pushes it around on her plate. She confesses that she loathes seafood that it makes her skin crawl. He asks why did she make a meal out of something she hates? She admits its because she knows he likes it. He gets up and declares that he is going to make her the BEST hamburger she has ever eaten. Later he thanks her for dinner and she says it’s her pleasure as its nice to do something for him for a change. He tells her she does plenty for him. "Like what?" she asks surprised. He tells her, "You make an ordinary day into something special, like tonight. You never know what’s going to happen when your around." She teases him, "I thought I made you want to wring my neck?". No he says, "You have a beautiful neck." As he takes the dishes into the kitchen, she tells him that Bobbie knows they got married. After he leaves the room, she continues softly thinking he can't hear her that Bobbie thinks Carly is in love with him and is afraid to admit it. But he comes back into the room and asks, "what was that last part?" He is grinning pretty big and questions what Bobbie said. Carly is worried that he heard her and prevaricates that Bobbie wanted to know what they wanted for a wedding gift. Carly softly asks him what he wants. He pulls her in towards him and kisses her. Things heat up and Carly pulls away. She tells him she isn't sure about being lovers again so soon. She admits that when he looks at her, when he touches her that she feels this incredible physical response. Sonny doesn't see the problem. She continues that she tends to make impulsive leaps and jumps to conclusions. That she is concerned if she makes love to him that she will lose all perspective. She points out that when she gets hurt she tends to make bad choices and she doesn't want to mess this up. She asks for time and patience from him and to take things slow. She says that once there is physical closeness that she tends to see emotional connections that might not be there. Sonny agrees to wait and tells her she is worth it and he will miss her. She kisses him, then gets up as he tries to hold her back. She says promisingly "tomorrow" and runs upstairs. He tries to call her back, she laughs and keeps going. A wistful Sonny held Carly’s champagne glass with her lipstick mark and stared longingly into the empty living room, while a sleepless Carly tossed and turned alone in her bed.

Carly offered to make Sonny breakfast and asked him if he could tell Jason that she wanted to see him. Sonny was concerned that Carly missed him.

Sonny was informed that Mike borrowed more money from a loan shark. Mike stopped by the Penthouse with a wedding gift for Sonny and Carly, a huge sterling silver bowl. Sonny asks how much is left of the 10K that Mike got from the loan shark. Sonny is livid and tells him to take the bowl and pawn it. Sonny reams Mike as he has had it with Mike's gambling and lying. He throws Mike's past in his face. Sonny tells Mike he is just a user. Mike turns around and throws Lily in Sonny's face that he used her to stay out of jail. Mike becomes incredibly cruel. Sonny's lip quivers as he says how Mike left them when he was a kid, broke his mother's heart. Mike is yelling and slaps Sonny. Carly standing at the top of the stairs comes racing down screaming at Mike to get out and forcibly shoves him out the door. She goes to Sonny who is shattered, a lost little boy. She wants to desperately to ease the damage Mike has inflicted. She insists that Mike was wrong that Sonny is good and kind. She tries to reach him but he tells her he just can't hear her right now. He asks her to leave him alone and she complies. Later she tries again. He realizes she is trying to help him but he just can't open up to her. Hurt she heads to tell Jason.

Meanwhile Sonny tells Michael that he knows Carly was trying to help him and he will make it up to her. Carly tells Jason she is keeping the $20 as the marriage isn't working out as Sonny doesn't need her the way a husband should need his wife. Jason tells Carly that she is pushing Sonny too hard and to give him space. They hug (Sonny has just entered the bar and stands watching). Sonny leaves just before Jason walks her out. When he comes back inside Sonny is sitting waiting for him. They discuss Carly. Jason says that Carly is just the way she is but that Sonny is better off with her. He also tells him that when two people are in love they find a way to make things work. Sonny says they are not in love and Jason says yeah well whatever you call it. Jason leaves to check out a tip on Emily.

Carly goes home where Bobbie is waiting. She tells Bobbie that she is glad their relationship is going along alot better. Bobbie doesn't know how to react to this until Carly tells her about Mike's fight with Sonny. Carly tells Bobbie that she had a talk with Jason and he made her realize that she is pushing Sonny and needs to back off and give Sonny time. She also admitted that she was in love with Sonny, and wanted her marriage to work. Later, Sonny came homes and tells Carly that he made a decision. Their marriage won't work and he is giving her her freedom. Sonny actually offers Carly an annulment. She vehemently protests, but instead of saying, "I love you." She says "I got you into this mess." Sonny is obviously still reeling from the fight with Mike. He tells her he will leave the country if he has to. She asks if he will take her and Michael with him? Why would she want that he wonders? She says that Michael loves Sonny and also reminds him that he is the only thing stopping AJ from seeking custody. Alexis arrives to tell them there is no way to get an annulment unless Sonny wants to go to jail. Sonny asks Alexis to secure the earliest trial date so Carly "can be with a man she loves." The two of them are so frustratingly endearing. They are terrified to admit weakness to each other, but they can’t bear to see the other unhappy. Sigh. After Alexis leaves, Sonny seems surprised that Carly is upset with him for asking for an annulment without even asking her. She tells him that she can change that she will stop crowding him. He tells her he knows he hurt her today and she was only trying to help him and she doesn't deserve that. He wants to release her so she can be with a man she loves. She responds that she doesn't need that. She can wait to be with the man she loves (who we all know is really Sonny but he of course thinks she is talking about Jason). Carly was trying really hard to get Sonny to open his mind to their marriage and forget about the annulment. She asks if there are anymore of the toaster waffles. Sonny looks clueless. When she explains he looks horrified at the idea of frozen waffles. He tells her he will make her the best waffles she has ever had, with pecans. They were being really playful (hard to believe he wants an annulment with all the dimple flashing going on!). Carly wants him to take her to the No Name that night. She says it is his favorite restaurant and she is hoping it can be their favorite restaurant. He is hesitant. She says she doesn't want to be miserable every minute of their marriage.

Then Sonny left for work. Later on Carly paged her mom to come right over. Bobbie was not too thrilled because she was on her way to Luke's trial. Nevertheless Carly wanted to thank her mom for the good advice she gave. Bobbie was glad that Carly finally told Sonny that she loved him. But Carly said she did not tell Sonny because she wanted him to come out of himself and reveal his feeling too. Carly was planning this big seduction. Bobbie still insisted that she just tell Sonny the truth and forget about another plan. Carly thanked Bobbie again and said her plan would work out this time. When Sonny returned home. Carly turned their house into a romantic setting. She had the wine, candles, sexy dress, and of course the necklace (from her husband). Sonny was surprised and pleased at the same time. Carly offered him wine and when he sat down next to her, she began to undress him. He tried to resist, but could not bring himself to. She wanted to dance with him, so they danced. But as things moved forward, Sonny asked Carly to stop. He said this is no good for both of them, because they are getting an annulment after Luke's trial. He says why make things more complicated. Why pretend there is something between them when there isn't (liar!). She is deeply hurt by his rejection and bitterly says he can never say she didn't try. Sonny kissed her and said good night.

Sonny confided to Jason that he hated the way he treated Carly, but he couldn't give her what she needed or be the husband she wanted him to be. Jason assured him that Carly would get used to his ways and Sonny would adjust to hers. Bobbie visited Carly and Carly surprised her by saying how grateful she was for their relationship. It seemed so much easier compared with the problems between Mike and Sonny.

Friday, Oct 6th - Carly whirls in from her shopping trip. She seductively shows Sonny two dresses she has bought, draping them over her body. She asks him which one he prefers for their dinner at the No Name. He opts out of choosing one. Carly gets very seductive with him but he pulls away regretfully, he has to go out. He quickly leaves saying its one dinner before their marriage is over. He leaves his cell phone behind and Carly gets a call from Alexis and she tells Carly that the charges have been dropped so her and Sonny don't have to remain married. Carly hedges that Sonny is completely unreachable. She realizes she has one night to seduce Sonny, to save her marriage. Carly is on the phone giving detailed instructions to the No Name for her evening with Sonny, with the instructions that when they are dancing together the band is NOT to stop playing. Sonny walks in and grins at her arrangements. He goes to check his messages and she stops him saying she doesn't want him to have to go to work and ruin their evening out. Sonny then says he wants to go to the PD to check on his case and show Luke support in his trial. She shoots down that idea. When he can't be budged she insists on going with him. He looks at her decked out in her spaghetti strap sequined cocktail back-less dress and laughingly questions, "Dressed like that?" She grabs a jacket determined to stay with him.

Sonny & Carly are in the Limo, she removes his jacket, unbuttons his shirt and starts kissing him. He doesn't object. She tells Johnny to drive them around the lake (her intentions obvious). Sonny agrees and says around the lake and don't stop till he tells Johnny to...and warns him not to peek. In the afterglow, Sonny asks Carly if this is why she came with him? "this is why" she confirms. He tells her she didn't have to go to all the trouble all she had to do is ask (if she wanted to make love to him). She asks him if he is sorry. He says, "Never!" He says just surprised since she knows that they can now get an annulment since the charges have been dropped. He ran into Alexis at the warehouse and she told him. Carly is upset that he made love to her knowing their marriage is over, she is feeling used. He tells her that he made love to her because he wanted to, that he wants her now. Carly, sensing that her marriage is about to end, bitterly says for what sex? (still can't believe that Sonny wants anything more from her than sex). After absorbing Sonny’s bombshell Carly becomes very hurt and offended. She demands to know why Sonny made love to her. He also has questions, but he actually answers, telling her that he wants her. She assumes he means only sexually gets Johnny to take them back to the penthouse. Upon arrival, she rushes up the stairs announcing that she and Michael are leaving. Sonny shouts out, "Stay or leave. It’s your choice." That statement stops her dead in her tracks. She whips around and demands to know what Sonny wants. He tells her he wants her to stay with him, "Where you belong." This puzzles her since he has been pushing for the annulment. He tells her she only married him out of guilt and obligation. He overheard her telling Jason on their wedding day that she would only marry Sonny for Jason, because he asked her to. She tells him that wasn't how it was. She flat out tells him she has to be a clear choice for Sonny. She needs to know that he wants her front and center in his life not just for sex. She needs to hear that he wants her. He tells her he chose her when they married. She says that was just because the charges were pending. He tells her he isn't good about talking about how he feels but he will try as he knows that it is important to her. He tells her he wants and needs her, that she makes him happy and he wants her to keep being his wife! She says she wants to be his wife more than anything. Of course they don’t say, "I love you." They head upstairs arm in arm. Benny bursts in with a problem in Puerto Rico that is very dangerous. Sonny tells him to book a flight immediately. Carly says no way they just found each other and she doesn't want him going off and getting killed.

Terrified that Sonny wouldn't return, from Puerto Rico alive, Carly pleaded with Jason to stop him. She wasn't pleased when Jason offered to go in his stead. Sonny and Carly bid Jason a painful goodbye as he left town to take care of Sonny's business.

Carly drove Sonny crazy as she asked for his opinion about redecorating the Penthouse, but he was happily surprised by her spontaneous affection. Tammy stopped by to see if he knew where Mike was. Sonny filled her in on their last argument and she didn't understand why Sonny couldn't see the decency in his father. Though it wasn't something he was used to, Sonny told Carly how he felt about Mike's disappearance.

Carly tried out her culinary talents to disastrous results. Sonny seemed to find it all amusing, despite being unable to eat anything she had cooked. He also found a huge mess in the kitchen. He seemed flattered by her desire to do something for him. Their evening ended with him feeding her ice cream, which led to serious kissing. They certainly have chemistry.

Carly, Sonny, and Michael started their day off at Michael's new preschool. After leaving the school Sonny became very protective about Michael and his well-being. Carly teased Sonny a little about his worries, but also promised to help him get through these first day of school jitters. Carly and Sonny headed over to the park where Sonny pushed Carly on the swings. During their playful moment, AJ walked up and began to harass Sonny. Carly immediately came to his defense. AJ spouted off about the charges against Sonny, but before he could get into the insults, Carly set him straight. She told him that the charges against Sonny had been dropped and that they were married. She also told him that Sonny was the best father and husband, and that she was lucky to have him. At this point, Sonny asked AJ not to make a nuisance of himself. AJ bid them a good day and left. Carly confessed that she let AJ get to her. She just could not stand him. Defeated, AJ leaves. Carly and Sonny go pick up Michael and bring him back to the swings. Touching.

Sonny told Carly to stay away from the warehouse since she seemed to cause nothing but trouble even as she tried to help. Carly wanted the chance to prove that she was a capable business person, but Sonny declared that they could either work together or stay married, not do both. Carly obviously chose her marriage and was happy that they were able to discuss a problem without it turning into an argument.

Carly continued to push the work issue with Sonny. Sonny pushed back and told her that she was given a choice either they were going to be married or work together. Carly backed off for a moment. Tammy asked Sonny if he had heard from Mike. Sonny told her no and the best thing for her would be to forget about Mike. She told Sonny that that was not an option for her. Carly tried to convince Bobbie to let her work at Kelly's as a manager or something. Bobbie said that she would not fit into the restaurant business because you have to deal with all kinds of people and their attitudes. Carly agreed. She went back over to the table where her husband sat and tried to convince him to let her work with him, but Sonny's answer remained no. As they left Kelly's they ran into AJ and Hannah. Hannah made a big effort and congratulated the newlyweds and wished them happiness. Sonny and Carly walked to the pier. Carly was still trying her last effort with Sonny. He told her that she did not need to work to prove anything to him. Carly said she needed to work for herself especially since he worked all day and Michael was attending school. What is she supposed to do all day? Sonny suggested going back to interior decorating. Carly told him that she was determined to succeed, make a six-figure salary, and that he would regret not hiring her. Sonny told her that he would see her at home later. Still desperate to find gainful employment, Carly asks Alexis if she needs any help with her law practice. Sonny walks in as Alexis tells Carly she can't work for her. Sonny jokes, "Join the club." He tells Alexis that Carly has already hit him up, Bobbie, and the pizza guy. After Alexis leaves, Sonny tries to coax Carly into spending some quality gal pal time with his nervous attorney (over her impending marriage to Ned). Sonny agrees to finance Laura's new business venture but only on the condition that she take Carly on as a partner. Laura refuses his offer.

As Carly dresses Michael for his first Halloween party, Juan arrives at the penthouse and appeals to Sonny to stop Alexis from defending Emily's kidnapper. Carly & Sonny arrive at the brownstone. Leticia takes Michael trick or treating. Sonny wonders if he should go with them. Carly laughs and says, "oh yeah...people are really going to give Michael candy with you and Johnny standing behind him." Carly ran into Mike outside the penthouse. They were very nice to one another. Mike quizzed her about Sonny and Michael. Carly even commented on how well she and Sonny were getting along much better than expected.
