Sonny & Carly #33  January 26 - March 15, 2005 - 8hr original

Steven challenges Carly to consider romance with a nice guy for a change. However, when Steven begins to wonder out loud why Carly is so attracted to 'bad' guys, Carly evades Steven's questions and then reminds the romantic doctor that she is only interested in being friends with Steven and there is no hope that their relationship would ever go beyond that point.

Sam tells Sonny that she has changed her mind about using any means possible to obtain custody of Hope. Then Sam realizes that Sonny was using reverse psychology to convince Sam to change her mind about wresting custody of Hope away from Rita and Bridget at any costs. After Sam leaves the mansion, Sonny finds Michael asleep on the couch and covers Michael up, while the intruder continues to monitor Sonny's movements through the system of hidden cameras. Later, Jason goes to Sam's hotel room and tries to speak to Sam, but Sam refuses to answer her door. After Jason leaves, Sam receives a phone call and discusses a risky plan with a mysterious contact.

Alexis asks Ned if he would be willing to watch Kristina for a couple of days for her. Ned tells her that he has to go out of town on L&B business and can't cancel it. Sonny happens to show up there and asks her why she didn't ask him to watch his own daughter. Alexis tells him that he sees enough of her already. Sonny reminds her that the judge told them he can see Kristina as much as he wants since he has unlimited visitation rights and leaves. The mysterious man watches their exchange from a nearby table.

Alexis goes to Kelly's with Kristina. She ends up bringing Kristina to Sonny's new mansion. She tells Sonny that she changed her mind and that Kristina can stay with him for a couple of days. He teases her about only bringing Kristina there because she couldn't find another babysitter. Alexis reluctantly tells him that she needs a couple of days to be alone with Ric to mend her marriage. Sonny continues to tease her but stops when she asks him to stop looking so smug with her because he was right about something. She tells him she would like them to stop arguing and think of what is best for Kristina for a change. Sonny agrees to that and tells her she is starting to come along finally. She tells him that she knows he loves their daughter but still doesn't believe it is totally safe for Kristina to be with him but that she knows he would protect her at all costs with his life if he had to. They are still unaware that they are being watched from security monitor somewhere in Sonny's new mansion.

Sonny tells Jason to give Sam some space and that she will come around after she gets over her hurt and anger and points out that Sam is taking out that anger on him because he is the closest to her and that she loves him. Jason tells him he is worried that she is up to something that isn't good. Sonny tells him about Sam's visit to him the day before and how she wanted him to put pressure on Bridget's grandmother and/or the judge to help her get Hope back. Sonny tells him that he pretended to go along but Sam backed off and asked him to forget about it and that she will probably be okay.

Carly realizes she has lingering feelings for Lorenzo but fights her feelings every step of the way. Lorenzo asks Carly why she cares about him finding a relationship with Diego, and Carly admits that she cares for Lorenzo. He pushes-still being in love with her and wanting a relationship-but Carly assures him that they can never be together again. She reminds him that her kids need her, and her returning to Lorenzo would cause action by Sonny. Lorenzo grows angry that Carly continues to be forced to live in Sonny's shadow, but Carly also reminds Lorenzo that she is unable to trust him. Later, he witnesses Carly trying to persuade Diego into beginning a relationship with Lorenzo. Diego at first resists, but then listens to her and begins to think about it.

At Sonny's mansion, everyone remains in chaos as the security system continues to act up. The power goes out, and Sonny grows angry and demands the system be shut down so that a new one can be installed. Jason is called over to help with the kids and the workmen, and they begin to shut off the security.

As Michael gets popcorn in the kitchen, and Brook is distracted in the hallway talking on the phone to Diego, a sleeping Kristina is alone in the bedroom. Sam breaks into the yard of Sonny's house, and slips inside the bedroom to sit and look at a sleeping Kristina. Brook then finishes her phone call and walks back in the bedroom only to discover that Kristina is missing. She begins screaming for help, and Jason and Sonny rush up and realize their worst nightmare is coming true.

Sonny goes ballistic to Brooke Lynn to the point of her tears and Jason cuts in to help. Suddenly, Sonny worries about Michael's whereabouts and races with Jason downstairs to find Michael. Michael rushes in, relieving their fears. But Sonny still demands that the guards lock down the house just when security pushes Diego inside the house. Jason grills Diego, claming his phone call to Brooke was a diversion and demands for answers. After laying off of Diego, Jason gathers everyone to get the story together, then requests for everyone but Michael to leave. Michael promises that he didn't tell anyone about the safe behind the mirror. Jason checks it and announces that whoever took Kristina also took a lot of money. Jason figures that the kidnapper was hiding in the closet waiting for Brooke Lynn to leave before snatching Kristina up, and leaves the house to follow that lead. Later, Carly comes to pick Michael up and places a plausible thought that Sam, who just lost two babies in the span of one year, could be the kidnapper. When Jason returns, Sonny confronts him, accusing Jason of protecting the one person who would benefit from the money and Kristina: "Why didn't you tell me about Sam?"

Sonny calls Alexis and tells her that Kristina had been kidnapped silences her. Alexis goes to the house and confronts Sonny face to face, lashing out all her anger on his mob persona that she knew would put Kristina in danger. Ric holds Alexis back as she threatens Sonny's life if Kristina is hurt. Ric calms Alexis down long enough to convince her that involving the police could only make things worse, that she and Sonny were more than capable to deal with the kidnapper. The kidnapper zooms in on Alexis and Kristina brushes her fingers over her mother's face on the monitor.

Sonny accuses Jason of trying to cover up for Samantha. All the while, the kidnapper watches all of them through the hidden cameras. Kristina plays quietly with all of her brand new toys. Carly tries to reassure Michael that Michael could not have done anything to prevent Kristina's kidnapping. Carly asks the guard at the door to stay with Michael while Michael is in his room doing homework and Enzo calls someone else to guard the door.

Jason continues to defend Sam to Sonny but Sonny accuses Jason of being blinded by his feelings for Sam. Shortly afterward, Stan arrives and after asking Sonny and Jason to meet with him on the terrace, Stan quietly reports that his security team has discovered an elaborate system of hidden cameras all through the house. Jason argues that Sam could never have created that kind of an elaborate system on her own, especially if Sam was so distraught that Sam was driven to kidnap Kristina because Sam was still grieving the loss of her own child.

Later, Lorenzo arrives at Carly's apartment and Carly informs Lorenzo that Kristina was kidnapped and that Sonny suspects Diego of being involved because the boy leaped the fence into the grounds of Sonny's property while the security system was down. Although Carly explains that Diego was just worried about Brook Lynn, Carly admits that it makes sense that Sonny would leap to the conclusion that Lorenzo was behind the kidnapping and used Diego to distract Brook so the kidnapper could strike. Lorenzo swears that he was not involved and would never have allowed Diego's life to be placed in jeopardy by placing the boy in a position where the boy might be caught in the crossfire of a war between Sonny and Lorenzo. Carly and Lorenzo are interrupted when John Durant arrives to ask Carly to have dinner with him and mend some fences. When John sees Lorenzo, the prosecutor slams out of Carly's apartment.

Carly follows John into the hallway and explains about Kristina's kidnapping. John suggests that perhaps Lorenzo or even Sonny himself were responsible for the kidnapping. Carly insists that John is leaping to all the wrong conclusions and promises to have dinner with her father after the crisis about Kristina's disappearance has been resolved.

After Sonny and Jason learn about the hidden camera system, they return to the living room, just as a woman in a black leather coat joins the kidnapper who is watching the camera monitor. Sonny stands in front of a mirror and addresses the kidnapper through one of the hidden cameras. Sonny offers $5 million for Kristina's safe return. Sonny also warns the kidnapper that returning Kristina immediately is the only way the kidnapper will be able to remain alive. Then Sonny smashes the mirror and exposes the hidden camera. Jason tries to stop Sonny but Sonny angrily orders Jason to find the rest of the cameras and rip them out just as Ric returns to the mansion.

Before Ric can speak to Sonny, Ned arrives at the front door to pick up Brook Lynn. Ric explains about Kristina's kidnapping and Ned is appalled when he learns that the police have not been called in yet. Ned accuses Ric of trying to protect Sonny by allowing Sonny to deal with the situation in his own way and then Ned announces that he plans to take Brook Lynn downtown right away so that Ned's daughter can make a statement a bout the kidnapping to the police. Then Ned pushes past Ric in an attempt to confront Sonny.

Jason reports back to Sonny that all of the cameras have been disabled. Just as Sonny theorizes that the cameras might have nothing to do with the kidnapping, Alexis returns and suggests that perhaps Sam was the one who kidnapped Kristina. Alexis then describes her meeting with Sam, when Sam suggested that being able to be around Kristina would help Sam adjust to her losses and Alexis had refused Sam's request. Jason receives a call from Sam. Sam tells Jason that she believes that she is in serious trouble! Sonny asks him who called him. Jason is evasive at first but admits that Sam called and said she was in trouble. Sonny and Alexis come to the conclusion that it means that Sam kidnapped Kristina and is having second thoughts. Jason refuses to jump to that conclusion and insists Sam wouldn't kidnap Kristina. Alexis and Sonny disagree with it.

Sonny accuses Jason of being biased because he is in love with Sam and doesn't want to believe that she could kidnap Kristina. Sonny suggests that Sam could have snapped and for good reason after losing two babies she loved. Jason refuses to believe it. Alexis tells Jason that if he doesn't go out and find Sam and bring her baby back, she will be calling the cops. Jason refuses to hunt Sam down like she is a criminal. Ric comes in the room and picks up the phone. He calls the cops. Sonny nods to Ric that he won't stop him from calling. Jason is shocked when he sees Sonny allowing Ric to make the call. He asks Sonny why he would trust the cops to help them. Sonny doesn't say a word.

Carly shows up also with Alcazar. Alcazar demands that Sonny let Diego go. Carly tells Sonny that Alcazar only came to get Diego and that he had nothing to do with the kidnapping. Sonny sees Alcazar as a possible suspect to. Alcazar denies having anything to do with the kidnapping. Sonny warns him that if he did have anything to do with it and Diego helped him they are both in trouble. Alcazar warns Sonny to stay away from Diego or he will kill him.

Mac and a uniformed cop show up along with Steven. Everyone starts pointing fingers at everyone else and a big argument occurs. Mac wants to know why they waited so long to call the cops. Sonny tells him that he was waiting for a ransom demand. Mac asks him if there was one. Sonny tells him he hasn't heard from them yet. Alexis tells Mac that Sam called Jason and said she was in trouble and needed his help and that she has motive for kidnapping Kristina. Jason tells Alexis she has no proof Sam kidnapped Kristina.

Meanwhile, Kristina continues to play in a room somewhere in the mansion with the kidnapper's right-hand man watching her. Mac tells Jason he wants to know everything Sam told him on the phone. Mac has Steven go upstairs and look for any forensic evidence that could have been left behind in Sonny's bedroom by the kidnapper. Carly goes upstairs to show Steven where Sonny's room is and where the safe is since money was stolen from it. Steven finds a piece of long dark hair near where the safe is and where some money was left on the floor. He puts it in an evidence bag. Steven brings it to the lab to compare to hair found on Sam's hairbrush at Kelly's. He apologizes to Alexis for suspecting her of kidnapping Kristina to get her away from Sonny. Alexis tells him she wishes he had more faith in her but understands why he may suspect her since she wasn't very forthcoming about where she was when Kristina had been kidnapped.

Ric and Alexis go and find Sonny and Jason and tell them that Sam's hair matched the hair found in Sonny's room. Jason decides to go and find Sam when Ric has an APB put out on Sam and Mac orders her to be arrested on the spot. Jason takes off before anyone can stop him and Alexis worries that he will find Sam and cover for her and take her away. Sonny tells Alexis that Jason wouldn't do that even if he does love Sam, he wants answers to. Ric agrees with Sonny that Jason wouldn't do that.

Carly goes home to find Michael waiting up for her. She tells him it is way past his bedtime. Michael tells her he couldn't go to sleep until she came home safely. He tells Carly that she is a cool mother and that he is glad he is like her in many ways.

Carly goes to Sonny's house to pick up Michael and an unknown woman, wearing a brown leather jacket, black v-neck top with a pearl necklace accenting her long dark brown hair, black long skirt, and black leather boots watches them from behind a nearby plant. As Sonny returns from the police station, the mystery woman continues to watch as Sonny tells Carly to take Michael to her apartment, and as Sonny takes a drink before departing upstairs. The woman escapes from the back door and walks a few steps in the snow before Sonny rushes outside and points a gun to her back, demanding her to stop.

Sam sits calmly at the interrogation room, Sonny walks in, sure that he could get her to admit. Sam knows that Sonny doesn't believe that she would kidnap Kristina, but Sonny's anger takes over, demanding Sam to tell him what she did with Kristina. Sam "swears on their dead baby's soul" that she had nothing to do with Kristina's kidnapping; but Sonny still isn't convinced, enraged that she would swear a "lie" on baby Lila's soul. Sonny leaves the room in frustration. Sam really opens up to Jason, telling him that all she did was steal the money from the vault to pay for an illegal adoption. Jason leaves the interrogation room and urges Sonny, Ric, and Alexis that the only way they will find Kristina is if they let Sam go.

Sam tries to get through to Jason and make him see that she is innocent. Jason remains unconvinced, and Sam tries harder to deny that she had anything to do with Kristina's kidnapping. Back at the mansion, Sonny pulls a gun on a mystery woman who turns out to be an FBI expert on child kidnappings. Ric and Alexis arrive in time to show Reese a ransom note that was found in Sam's things, and all of them return to the police station to further question Sam. She continues to deny she had anything to do with Kristina's disappearance, but it doesn't appear that anyone believes her. Sonny warns Jason to stop thinking with his heart and instead think with his head, but Jason storms off. Later, all of them return to the mansion to walk through Sam's version of her actions. Ric trips her up in her story, and they all further decide that she's guilty. Suddenly, an explosion occurs, and Sam is grabbed and dragged out of the house. She kicks and screams until she realizes that it's Jason. He tells her he believes her and is going to help her escape, but before they can take off, Sonny comes up behind them with a gun. He warns them both not to move or he'll shoot.

After Carly makes a sincere effort to make amends with her father, he drops the charges against Sonny. Although Sonny is now convinced of Sam's innocence, Alexis still isn't so sure. Once she's alone, she falls to pieces. Sonny must reveal everything in his past and present to help Reese uncover who may have wanted to kidnap Kristina.

In the PCPD interrogation room, Alexis implores Sonny to help her locate Samantha and Jason and recover Kristina. But Sonny insists that he is convinced that Sam had nothing to do with Kristina's kidnapping. Across town, Michael asks Carly why there has been no note demanding ransom for Kristina yet. They are interrupted by Steven and the police, who announce that they have orders to search Carly's apartment for signs that Jason may have gone to Carly for help. Meanwhile, in her hideout, Faith holds Kristina in her lap and explains to the little girl that Faith is planning revenge because Sonny, Ric and Alexis are responsible for railroading Faith into prison.

Reese asks Sonny to give her the locations of all of Sonny's safe houses so Reese can search all of them for signs of Kristina, but Sonny refuses to cooperate. Carly learns from Steven that Agent Reese shot Jason and Carly angrily orders Steven to leave because Steven appears to be siding with the Agent who shot Jason. Later, Reese informs Sonny that John Durant has been assigned to the case of Kristina's kidnapping and plans to throw the book at Sonny. Sonny quickly calls Carly and informs Carly about John's plans to get tough with Sonny. Sonny confides that he believes that Carly's father plans to use the kidnapping as a club over Sonny's head in an attempt to get close to Carly again. Carly rushes to the PCPD to confer with Sonny.

After Carly arrives at the PCPD and confers with Sonny, Carly reluctantly holds out an olive branch to her father and John orders the charges against Sonny dropped, without getting a list of Sonny's Safe Houses. Later, Sonny is angry when Reese arrives and asks Sonny to tell Reese all about himself as a way to help Reese figure out which of Sonny's enemies could be so driven by their hatred of Sonny that they would go to these elaborate lengths to kidnap Sonny's daughter.

Alan goes to Carly's apartment to see Michael. He tells Carly about AJ's murder and how he wants to tell his grandson about what happened to his father. Carly refuses to allow him to tell Michael about A.J. and tells him she and Sonny will tell him instead. Alan doesn't like her answer and lashes out at her. He accuses her of stealing Michael from his real family and that Michael should know about A.J. from him. Alan leaves in a huff.

Reese tries to find out who may have a personal grudge against Sonny enough to kidnap Kristina without asking for a ransom demand. Sonny doesn't know who since he knows he has a lot of enemies. Reese asks him about his late wife Lily's death and how it happened. Sonny tells her about the car bombing and how he had just found out that Lily was pregnant. She tries to question him further about it but Carly shows up and tells her to back off of Sonny. Sonny asks her what is wrong. She tells him she needs to talk to him in private and tells him Michael is outside in the hallway. Reese tells them that she needs to know what is going on if it concerns Sonny or his children. Carly tells him that there is nothing that Reese needs to know since it doesn't have anything to do with Kristina. Sonny asks Reese to leave them alone a minute.

Carly tells Sonny about AJ's murder and how Alan came by and wanted to tell Michael about his death himself. Sonny tells her that isn't going to happen. Alan shows up at Sonny's mansion and makes a scene in the hallway, insisting on talking to Michael. Alan tells Michael that his father was murdered and that he needs to know that his mother stole him away from his father and the rest of his family. Michael gets really upset since he only thinks of Sonny as his father. Sonny and Carly run out to find out what is going on. Carly goes over and comforts Michael and assures him that Sonny is fine and that Alan is talking about A.J. not Sonny. Alan continues to tell Michael about A.J. but Sonny intervenes and tells Alan to back off. Alan continues to badmouth Carly and him. Sonny loses his temper and tells Alan that A.J. wasn't any kind of father to Michael and that he was a sniveling whiner instead. Alan starts to lunge toward Sonny to start a physical fight with him. Sonny tells Alan to stay away from Michael or he will bury him. Alan tells him to try it and he will see what happens.

Carly confronts Reese again and asks her to leave right now. Reese tells her she is just doing her job and helping Sonny and Alexis find their daughter. Sonny talks to Michael about what Alan said. Michael asks Sonny if it is true that his mother stole him from the Quartermaines. Sonny tells Michael that he took him away from the Quartermaines because he thought he could give him a better life and family than the Quartermaines could since A.J. wasn't ready to be a real father to him and only wanted to use him to impress his family. Michael tells him he is glad he got him for a father instead. Carly takes Michael home and reassures him that she and Sonny did the right thing by taking him away from the Quartermaines and giving him a better life. Sonny takes off. He goes and finds Jason and Sam. Sonny asks them why they are still there since they should have left much sooner before the Feds find them. Reese barges into the cabin with her weapon drawn and tells them they are under arrest for kidnapping.

Faith isn't on top of her game and makes a terrible slip. She unintentionally drops a clue as to where she is hiding Kristina. Sonny receives a photograph of Kristina and instructions from Faith as to what he should do next.

Back at Sonny's mansion, Reese continues to attempt to profile Sonny as a means to finding the kidnapper. She manages to get Sonny to listen to her when she explains to him why she thinks a woman is behind the kidnapping. She begins to run through the litany of women who might want revenge on him, and Sonny grows tired of her charade. Carly walks in on them, and is further annoyed by Reese's seemingly ridiculous methods and sniffing out the kidnapper. Carly warns Reese to be careful if she figures out who has Kristina, especially if it could be Faith.

Meanwhile, Faith aims a gun at an unconscious Jason, and plans to shoot until the police interrupt her. She runs and prepares to move Kristina, but Jason later finds a note that Faith dropped. He and Sam arrive at the address on the note, but Faith is gone and has cleared out the room. When Reese wonders if Sonny is mental state unstable, Carly fibs and says he has always been emotionally solid. Jason and Sonny get instructions from the kidnapper to be at the park later that afternoon.

Unaware that it's Faith on the other end of the line, Sonny gets a call from the kidnapper with their ransom demands. Carly realizes that Sonny is teetering on edge of sanity and warns Jason. Sonny gets the proof he wanted that Kristina is alive when he sees her via a web cam.

Sonny reads the ad in the paper meant for him to read by the kidnapper. He reads it with Reese. She tells him she wants to go with him to make sure everything turns out okay when he meets at the park again. Carly gets scared when sees someone talking alone with Michael. It turns out to be Carly's father John. He tells her he just wanted to see his grandsons and that he wasn't going to kidnap them. Carly tells him she doesn't really trust him. John tells her that she lied to him too by promising to let him spend more time with her and the boys if he agreed to drop the kidnapping charges against Sonny. Carly reluctantly agrees he can spend some time with his grandsons soon.

Sonny shows up with Reese at the gazebo in the park where they are hanging out. Sonny hears a cell-phone ring in the gazebo and he lunges for it before is stops ringing. He answers it but the kidnapper hangs up. Sonny starts to think it is a bad idea to let Reese join him at the park. John suggests distracting Michael while Sonny takes care of things with the kidnapper.

Carly gets off the elevator after running into Alan who asks her why she didn't bring his grandson to AJ’s memorial service. Alan gets upset with Carly and accuses her of not caring about anyone but herself and not feeling any remorse for stealing Michael from his father. Carly tells Alan she is sorry he is grieving for his son. Alan accuses her of getting Courtney to kill AJ. Carly tells him that AJ used Courtney to get to Sonny and that he never cared about her and that is why she is glad she kept Michael away from him. Monica defends Carly.

Alexis once again gets stuck in an elevator with Carly, Carly goes to push the elevator button and the elevator stops moving and jams up. Alexis tells Carly that she can't talk to her right now since she isn't suppose to get upset right now since she is pregnant. Carly looks over at her in surprise.

Sonny receives another phone call from the kidnapper, a.k.a. Faith, to bring $5 million to some address. Sonny remembers what Reese told him earlier about trying to be calm and in control and trying to get the upper hand in this situation. Sonny demands to see proof that Kristina is alive before he hands over the money. Faith tells him in a disguised voice to go to the address in 10 minutes and she will give him his proof. Max brings the money to Sonny. Sonny and Reese show up at the address and find only a room with a video monitor. Sonny sees Kristina on the monitor. Reese tells him that it may be that Kristina is being filmed on a web cam of some sort.

Sonny tells the kidnapper on the cell phone, "Don't threaten my daughter!" Faith's disguised voice tells Sonny not to test her and to get rid of Agent Marsh, then takes Kristina out of the chair as Sonny watches. Faith watches on the web cam as Sonny tells Agent Marsh to leave, and the agent admits that this has become personal for her as she's beginning to worry about him. She kisses him on the cheek and whispers in his ear that she's going to stay close. Sonny looks into the camera and tells the kidnapper that he's listening. Faith calls the cell phone next to the computer monitor and tells Sonny that he has seven minutes to place money in the alley's green dumpster behind a tire store.

Sonny puts the money in the dumpster and waits beside it, a sniper target unknowingly upon his head. The mystery man comes and tells Sonny to follow him, now that they've gotten the money, he will take Sonny to Kristina. But as Sonny follows the mystery man, another guy charges with a bat ready to bash Sonny from behind. The sniper's gun goes off from afar!

Alexis breaks down in the elevator and Carly tries to calm her down. Alexis is upset because she has to stay in the hospital while her little girl is missing. Alexis thanks Carly for calming her down just before the elevator door opens to a suspicious Ric. When Ric tells Alexis and Carly about the lead on Faith that Jason is going to check, Carly is convinced that Faith is out to get revenge from all of them, not just Sonny. Ric mediates Carly and Alexis by assuring them that it's still uncertain if Faith even has anything to do with it.

Realizing Faith is the one behind Kristina's kidnapping, Sonny takes matters into his own hands and has his men grab Justice. Reese reminds Sonny that she's the professional and should handle things, but Sonny refuses to listen to her. Justus demands to know what is going on, and Sonny tells him that Faith has Kristina. Justus is stunned, but swears he has no idea where Faith has been since she escaped prison. He promises Sonny to help in any way that he can, and Sonny has Justus accompany him to drop the money off. As the two men wait, they see a figure emerge with a baby carriage. Justus walks forward with the bag of money, and sets it on the ground. The figure shoots Justus, and grabs the bag and runs, leaving the baby carriage where Sonny can chase after it. Reese grabs an ailing Justus as he hits the ground, while Sonny is stunned to look inside the stroller and not find Kristina, but rather a doll in her place.

As Jason and Sam continue to try and track Faith and Kristina, they come across a computer with tons of photographs connected to the kidnapping. They attempt to zero in on two people on the side of one of the photos, and Jason is sickened to realize the two people in the photograph are Michael and Morgan.

Carly continues to rail John for trying to insinuate into her son's lives, but John reminds her that they had a deal. John admires Carly for her spunk, and tells her that she gets it from him, but that he won't give up and let her push him away. Bobbie calls and interrupts their argument, pleading with Carly to come and help her immediately. Carly hesitates, and tells Bobbie she can't leave the boys, but John begs her to allow him to baby-sit. Michael is happy to spend the time playing videogames with his grandfather, so Carly relents and agrees to meet her mom. While she's gone, John answers the door and appears to have been waiting for whoever is on the other side, but later Carly returns to find all three bodyguards unconscious in the hallway. Terrified, she rushes into her apartment to find John bleeding and telling her that the boys are gone.

Alexis rages a war against Sonny when Jason and Sam show up with a possible lead to Faith and the kids. Sam and Jason later follow a lead to Louisiana. Carly and Ric disagree with Reese's suspicion that Durant is working with Faith. Faith holds Michael, Morgan and Kristina hostage in a Louisiana house surrounded by a swamp. Michael tries to make a quick escape but doesn't get far. Reese finds a clue that Michael left behind in his room.

Reese worries that Sonny is having a nervous breakdown and begs him to trust that she can safely bring home his children. Later, Sonny comes face to face with Faith in the stairwell at GH. Michael makes a swift escape from the mansion. Jason and Sam sneak into a Louisiana brothel where Sam is forced to pretend she's a hooker. Another prostitute on the premises tells them about Faith's mansion, but when they get there, it's empty.

Jason tells the madam of the bordello that he wants Sam as his prostitute. The madam asks Sam what she is doing there since she isn't one of her girls. Sam uses a fake Southern accent and tells the madam that she just got there from Houston and claims to be the best there is. The madam tells her she has to be seen by some guy first and get his approval first before she is hired. Jason tries to pay the madam more money to make the exception. The madam is firm in her rules and calls out to the guy to come out. He checks out Sam and grabs her and throws her over his shoulder and heads to the bedroom. Jason picks some other girl out and goes with her in the back bedrooms. He pays her extra money to tell him if she knows if there are any kids living nearby. He pays the woman some more money and tells her she has that time free to hang out in her room. Sam manages to get away from the other guy. She tells Jason they need to find Faith right now and that she has only five minutes before the guy comes looking for her. Suddenly they hear a baby crying.

Michael talks to Faith's goon and tells him that if he helps him escape he will get his father to pay him a lot of money. The goon tells him to shut up and ignores him. Michael notices that there is a house next door and that there is a door on the other side of the room. He takes Morgan's lollipop away to get him to cry to create a diversion since there is only one guy inside the room. He runs out the other door. Faith's goon is distracted by Morgan and trying to get him to stop crying. Jason and Sam investigate where they heard a baby crying. They find out that the prostitute that Jason just paid to answer his questions has a child she is hiding in her room. Jason shows her a picture of Faith and asks her if she has seen her. The woman tells her she has seen her recently and thinks she knows where she is staying. Jason and Sam show up at the house next door and find evidence children were there. Sam picks up a baby bottle of juice and tells him it is still cold which means the kidnappers probably just left. Nearby, Michael manages to show up at the bordello and tells the madam at the door that he and his siblings have been kidnapped and held next door.

Sonny confronts Durant at the hotel. He accuses him of being behind the boys' kidnapping. Carly is right behind Sonny and tries to stop him from hurting her father. Durant denies having anything to do with his grandsons' kidnapping. Carly gets in front of Sonny and asks Durant if he had anything to do with the kidnapping. Durant denies he would do anything to his grandsons. Carly tells Sonny that she thinks her father is telling her the truth about not being involved.

Sonny shows up at the hospital and wants to know where Faith is. Mac and the S.W.A.T. team are there to find her. Sonny insists on being involved. Mac orders Sonny to stay out of it and let them do their job. Sonny refuses to back off. Durant shows up as well as Carly. Durant tells Ric that Sonny shouldn't be allowed to call the shots and he should be arrested for trying to attack him with a broken bottle at the hotel earlier. Sonny thanks Ric for supporting him with the cops.

Reese approaches Sonny and asks him if he wants to ruin any chance of finding his kids and reprimands him for almost trying to attack Durant and go off on his own and tries to get him to cooperate and let the professionals like her do her job. Sonny isn't interested in letting the cops do anything and takes off to find Faith on his own.

Faith runs down the stairs but Sonny chases her and knocks her against the wall and points his gun at her and tells her to tell him where his kids are. She tells him he will never see his kids again. Sonny chases Faith down the staircase and slams her into the door, demanding she tell him where his kids are. She tells him that if he kills her, his kids are dead, but Sonny is willing to take his chances. Alexis rushes down the staircase to stop Sonny, ensuing a struggle with the gun between Sonny and Faith that ends with the gun going off and Alexis going down. Faith scampers up the staircase with Sonny in hot pursuit.

Later, Reese talks to Carly alone to ask her if Sonny will snap like he has done in the past and tells her that she needs to know what Sonny is capable of so she can help him find his children.

Sam and Jason just missed the kidnappers at their second hideout spot. Just before they retreat, the door begins to open. Jason and Sam post on each side of the door, Jason's gun out and ready as the door opens. But its just Candy, one of the town's prostitutes, there to assist them in finding the children. Just seconds after Michael leaves with the mystery man, Candy returns to the whorehouse. Jason and Sam visit the house to get the scoop from Bella, the woman that answered the door for Michael. She gave them all the information they needed to know that the kidnappers are nearby. Sam and Jason return to their hotel and Jason expresses his concerns that Michael is becoming more like he and Sonny. When he worries that Michael will get himself killed, Sam tells Jason he shouldn't underestimate Michael intelligence and common sense.

Michael knocks on the door of the whorehouse and asks the woman who answers the door to call the police, the kidnappers are right behind him. But before she could, the mystery man comes up behind Michael. The mystery man introduces himself to the woman as Michael's father and coaxes Michael into ending the charade and returning to his brother and sister.

Carly refuses to help Agent Marshall with the investigation but is there to see Alcazar give Reese a lead, a picture of the mystery man. Alcazar tells Agent Marshall that the mystery man's name is William Peavey, a hired gunman of Faith's who was in the contact book of another one of Faith's associates, Royal. Alcazar reports that he tried to contact the numbers but most of them were from out of state. Before Alcazar could say where, Agent Marshall answers Louisiana. She knew the location because Michael left them a clue in Carly's apartment: a note with two names on it, Louis and Ana. Alcazar tells Carly, "That's one resourceful boy."

Sonny returns to the GH lobby to report that Faith got away because of Reese's backup. But before he could fully assault the FBI, Sonny calls Jason and finds out that he and Sam are in Lafayette Perish, Louisiana. Sonny tells Jason he's on his way there, but Carly stops him just short of the elevator, exclaiming, "Sonny, you're not going!" Sonny and Agent Reese leave for Louisiana. In the waiting area, Carly tells Alcazar that she's hoping for Faith to mess up. Alcazar insists that Faith's plan is slowly unraveling and that it'll be a matter of time before the boys are safely home.

Faith, at the abandoned house, throws her cell phone into a trash near the children after a frustrating call. Michael retrieves it from the garbage and calls Sonny at a moment of clearance. But before Michael could tell him anything, Faith grabs the phone from him and says, "Little boys never learn; that was your last mistake." Sonny hears a gunshot on the other end!

Carly shows up in Louisiana, and is devastated to hear of Michael's call to Sonny, and then the gunshot. Jason quickly tries to calm her, and reminds her that Faith can't risk not having the kids as collateral, and wouldn't really hurt them. Convinced he's right, Carly works her magic to get through to a shell-shocked Sonny and pull him back from the edge. She reminds him that she is Michael's mother, and that she would feel it if he was gone. She refuses to believe that Faith killed him, and she helps Sonny see that it was likely just a ploy on Faith's part. Lorenzo's call comes in, and Sonny and Jason quickly leave to track down Faith's assistant. While Reese and the men leave, Carly tries her best to stay strong. Sam tells her that Lorenzo's tip is what led to them finding Faith's assistant, and Carly calls Lorenzo back in Port Charles and tearfully thanks him for his help.

Sonny and Jason surround Faith's henchman in his room, and Jason begins to beat him in order to get him to talk. It takes a crazed Sonny holding a loaded gun to his chest to get him to finally admit that Faith is at an abandoned church with the children, and Jason, Sonny, and Reese all head off to find her.

At the church, Faith decides she's waited around long enough, and needs to leave before she's caught. Having "dispersed" of Michael earlier, and declaring him no longer her problem, she herds Morgan and Kristina into an adjoining room. Sonny and Jason pick this moment to crash into the church, catch Faith, and begin a shootout. Faith and her men shoot at Sonny and Jason, while Reese rushes to all the side rooms, looking for the kids. Sonny manages to hold his own as Jason fights back and kills both of Faith's guards. Faith makes one last attempt to escape, but Jason fires his gun at her and sends her to the ground. Wounded, she tries to reach for her own gun, but Sonny steps on her hand, his own aimed at her head, and demands to know where his children are. Reese rushes in and is able to stop Sonny before he kills Faith, by screaming at him that the children aren't there.

Although Carly tries to put on a strong face for Sonny, Lorenzo sees that she needs a shoulder to lean on. Jason shoots Faith and falls unconscious before revealing where she stashed the children. Aware that they have to get that information out of Faith, Jason works to make sure she doesn't die. Sonny immediately worries that his kids are dead when he finds evidence that leads him to believe they've been buried. Although in Jason's heart he believes the children are alive, he is overwhelmed with doubt when he learns that traces of Michael's blood was found. At the hospital, Faith's condition goes down rapidly.

Reese learns that only two children (not three!) are traveling alone on a plane set to take off from Louisiana. Sonny, Carly, Alexis and Ric head to the airport, where they are reunited with Kristina and Morgan but no Michael! Back at the hospital, Faith coldly tells Lorenzo that she killed Michael and dumped is body in the swamp.

Jason goes up on the roof of the hospital to find Reese waiting for the helicopter to arrive with Faith to General Hospital. Reese tells him he shouldn't be there and that she is handling Faith and that there will be police guards watching her. Jason tells her he needs a favor from her, a few minutes alone with Faith without any guards in the room so he can talk to her. Reese tells him that they need Faith alive to tell them where Michael is and Jason tells her he doesn't want to kill her. Faith is brought to her room and Sonny overhears Ric telling the other police guards to not leave Faith alone in her room without protection since she is a target now.

Jason sees Sonny standing in the hallway near Faith's room with a gun. Jason realizes Sonny plans to kill Faith right now. Jason grabs Sonny and tells him he can't kill Faith since she is the only one who can tell them where Michael is. Jason tells Sonny that he is going to go in and talk to Faith and put pressure on her to talk. Ric sees Sonny nearby and tells him to stay away from Faith and that if he kills Faith they will have no answers about Michael.

Carly has Morgan checked out by a doctor. Bobbie tells her that Morgan got a clean bill of health by the doctor and can go home. Alcazar shows up at the hospital and sees Carly with Morgan and Bobbie. Carly looks at him expectantly since she knows he went to see Faith at the other hospital. Alcazar doesn't want to tell her what Faith told him but she insists he tell her what Faith said to him. Alcazar tells her that Michael is gone. Carly insists on knowing exactly what Faith said. Alcazar tells her that Faith told him that she shot Michael and dumped him in the swamp. Carly refuses to believe and tells him that Faith is lying. Alcazar grabs her and comforts her as Bobbie holds Morgan and keeps him from seeing Carly crying. Alcazar tells her that Faith had no reason to lie and worries that she may have killed Michael. Carly finds Sonny and Jason in the hallway and tells him what Faith told Alcazar at the other hospital.

Agent Reese interrogates Faith about where Michael is. Faith tells her she refuses to be intimidated by her and refuses to talk. Jason walks in. Faith tells her she will not be scared into talking. Reese tells Jason to do what is necessary to get to the truth and she leaves the room after pulling out the plug attached to the call button. Jason approaches Faith and she tells him to stay away from her. He grabs her by the throat and cuts off her oxygen tube so she can't breathe easily. Faith tells him she will tell him the truth. Jason eases off of her. Faith tells Jason that she shot Michael and dumped him in the swamp. Jason is caught off guard by her bluntness and grabs for her throat again. Agent Reese comes and pulls Jason off of her and tells him she heard the whole thing and that Faith is lying to provoke him. Jason calms down and leaves the room.

Jason goes and talks to Carly and Sonny, while Alcazar listens in. Carly refuses to believe Michael could be dead. Carly asks Sonny to bring Morgan home with her. He agrees to it. Carly and Sonny return to his mansion with Morgan. She takes Morgan upstairs for a bath before bed. Sonny picks up a picture of Michael and plays with his remote control car. Carly comes downstairs and they talk about Michael's favorite toy. Carly leaves Sonny alone. Sonny takes another gun out of a drawer in the study.

Jason and Reese show up and see Sonny with his gun. Jason tells Sonny to calm down and think rationally. Sonny thinks Jason is in denial about Michael. Jason tells Sonny that it doesn't make sense for Faith to kill Michael. Sonny realizes Jason is right. He calls Luke up to come over. He asks Luke to help him with anything he may have on Faith since he helped her launder money through the casino once. Luke tells him he didn't know much about the actual transactions but may have records of the money transfers and offers to give him anything he has on her. Sonny tells him Jason will stop by the casino later to get them. He asks Jason to leave the room for a minute.

Jason leaves the room as Carly comes downstairs. She asks him how Sonny is and what he is doing. Jason acts secretive and tells him he is busy. Carly tells him she knows Luke is here. She asks him what Sonny wants with Luke. Carly starts to remember that Luke was connected to Faith with the casino for a while and then she starts to guess that Luke may have helped Faith escape prison. Carly wants to go in and confront Luke for what he did. Jason stops her and tells her not to blow it by going in and accusing Luke when they need him to give them information. Sonny brings up his friendship with Luke and asks him to tell him everything he knows about Faith.

"What's a dead son between friends?" Sonny wonders, as he concludes that Luke is responsible for Michael's death. Jason calms Sonny down, telling him that they need Luke to get the information they need on Faith. Sonny sends Jason out of his home to get the papers and continues to drink himself into a mess. Carly joins Sonny at his house and hears the pain in his voice as he recalls hearing the gunshot on the other line after the last time he heard Michael's voice. But Sonny admits that he's praying, though Carly can't pray for she's mad at God for allowing this to happen. Sonny takes the blame, and tells Carly that he's praying for God to forgive him. Carly gives Sonny an ultimatum, he can either retreat into a dark place that he's headed to, or he can fight for Michael. After Carly's departure, Agent Marshall joins Sonny, ready to work to find Michael. Sonny asks her why she can't just write Michael off as a casualty of a mob war, why she cares so much. Agent Marshall answers that she cares so much because the first child she was supposed to bring home didn't make it back to his parents. Agent Marshall tells Sonny about her first kidnapping case, a case she was sure she was on top of. But the case ended with a young boy, close to Michael's age, found dead by the hands of a kidnapper she never suspected. Reese knows she won't let that happen with Michael.

Lorenzo bows his head in prayer as Carly watches him from the entrance to the chapel. She walks next to the pew and says, "I didn't expect to see you here." Lorenzo lifts his head and answers, "I could say the same." She takes a seat next to him, and he reminisces of Sophia, his love who thought she could change the world and saw the best in everyone, who ended up dying in the crossfire. Carly assumes that he's making a reference that Michael served the same fate, but insists that Michael is not dead, for she would feel it. She admits to Lorenzo that she's too busy to pray because she's constantly staying strong for everyone else. Lorenzo is convinced that Carly is ignoring her own pain, and insists that she doesn't have to do that around him. Carly attempts to pray, but ends up saying an unconvincing prayer. Lorenzo goes to leave Carly with her frustrations, but she grabs him and asks him to stay. Carly stands in front of the lit candles and digs deep in her soul for prayer, eventually delivering a sincere and emotional prayer for God to give Michael to her. Lorenzo rises from his seat and takes Carly in his arms.

Luke and Skye both admit that they helped Faith break out of prison. Sonny is at an exploding point and has some rather alarming words for Luke. Reese and Sonny talk about her past. She opens up and tells him why she is more committed than ever to find Michael. Lorenzo is there for Carly when she can no longer hold in her grief. Durant accuses Sonny of giving Carly hope that Michael is alive when he really isn't. At the hospital, Faith regains consciousness long enough to feed Sonny some confusing info. Sonny tries to get more information out of Faith, but she dies. Carly believes Lorenzo when he says he had nothing to do with the kidnappings.

Agent Reese finds an envelope in the hit man’s pocket. She notices the envelope is addressed to Sonny and opens it. She finds a picture inside and pauses in shock. Jason asks her what it is. She wants to hide it from him but realizes he will insist on seeing it. She hands the picture over to him. Jason stops cold and looks at the picture in disbelief. The picture shows Michael laying on the ground with blood on him and he looks very much dead. Reese tells Jason that usually she has to notify the parents of the child and let them know what she found. Reese tells Jason that Sonny shouldn't see that photo right now.

Sonny shows up and overhears them and asks what photo they are talking about. Reese doesn't want to show him but Sonny insists on seeing it. Jason hands it to him reluctantly. Sonny gets upset when he sees the picture. Meanwhile, back at the police station, Alcazar waits around for the police to release him and drop the kidnapping charges against him. Carly gets angry that the police just jumped to the conclusion that he kidnapped the children just because he was being helpful with the case/ Carly gets impatient about what is taking so long with Reese. Ric tells her he is waiting for a call from Reese soon to find out what is going on with the hit man. Ric gets a call and is ready to head out and Carly insists on going with him. Ric doesn't feel like arguing with her and lets her go.

Sonny and Reese show up before they leave. Sonny walks over to Carly, who demands to know what is going on. Sonny looks at her with a serious look and tells her that he needs to talk to her. Carly doesn't like the look on his face and refuses to believe Michael is dead. Sonny tells her that Michael is dead but Carly refuses to believe it and wants to know what proof they have. Sonny tells her they found a picture. Carly wants to see the picture but Sonny tells her she doesn't need to see it. Carly runs into the other room and grabs for the evidence bag that contains the picture of Michael. She tries to grab it out of Sonny's hands while he tries to keep it from her. Carly grabs it from him and looks at it. She starts to scream and wail when she sees it. Reese, Alcazar, and Ric witness her reaction.

Sonny takes her home. She sees the picture of Michael that sits on the coffee table and picks up. She sits with Sonny and talks about Michael. Carly tells Sonny that she doesn't want to go on living in a world without Michael in it. Sonny reminds her she has to go on living because Morgan needs her. Later, Carly holds Morgan and talks to Sonny.

Carly hates Durant's suggestion that she and Morgan leave Port Charles and start a life elsewhere in the Witness Protection Program. He then refocuses his attention on his goal to destroy Sonny. Durant encourages Reese to use all the inside information she got on Sonny while on the kidnapping case to put Sonny in prison.

Reese apologizes to Sonny for not returning all three of his children and then admits that she can't just walk away from him. He assures her that he knows she did all she could to rescue the children. When she asks him how he's doing, he tells her that he's taking it one day at a time and is managing for the sake of his two children. He then vows that he will never let Michael's fate befall Morgan and Kristina.

Back at the house Ric is waiting for Sonny. He tells him that they have not yet told Kristina about Michael's death. They wanted to leave that to Sonny. Ric goes on to tell him that he's deeply sorry for Sonny's loss and knows there are no words that he can offer that will bring him comfort. Touched, Sonny thanks Ric for bringing Kristina. Together they walk into the living room where Alexis and Kristina are waiting. Kristina runs to her father when he enters. He sits down with her on the sofa and tells her that it's his understanding she is missing her brother. He too misses Michael. He decides to break the news about Michael's passing by sharing a story with her of Michael going to heaven to live with God forever. He goes on to reassure her that in heaven there is no fear or pain, just happiness and that Michael will always be loving her from there. He is clearly shaken, discussing Michael's passing with Kristina. Teary eyed, Alexis offers him comfort and support by squeezing his shoulders.

Jason wakes up from a disturbing dream of Michael in which he's calling out to Jason. Shaken, he shares what happened in the dream with Sam who feels it might be a sign of unresolved feelings. She asks him if there is anything about the case that is still bothering him but Jason dismisses that possibility. He doesn't know what the significance of the dream is.

Carly is at the church, making the final preparations for Michael's memorial service. She lights a candle for Michael and then looks at the picture that she has chosen. It's one of Michael when his two front teeth were missing. Lorenzo walks in just as she begins to tear up. She pulls herself together long enough to greet him but then another wave of grief washes over her as they talk about the picture that she has selected for the service. She shares a bit of what she's been going through since learning that Michael died, at one point asking him what is right about a parent out-living their child, and then telling him that she feels like two different people at times. She goes on to share with him the feeling of pain she's enduring which is so profound that at times she can't seem to even catch her breath. Lorenzo listens and then offers his arms as solace, sensing no words can comfort Carly.

Carly stops by Jason's penthouse to pick him up for the service. Sam quickly makes her excuses, sensing they need privacy, and tells Jason that she would meet up with him at the church. Alone, Carly becomes emotional as she reminds Jason of when she was 8 1/2 months pregnant, running through the rain to get to him so that he could help her keep her child away from AJ. How he had promised her that he would make certain she would be able to raise Michael. A vow he has kept for nine years. She thanks him and then says that he was there with her in the beginning and she now needs for him to be there with her in the end. She also tells him that she is going to need him for the reception. He reassures her that he will do whatever she needs him to do. They then begin to discuss Sonny. Carly shares her concerns about him, telling Jason that Sonny is shutting down and the only time he seems somewhat animated is when he's with Morgan. They both realize that he's blaming himself for what happened to Michael and worry that it's going to build and build until he can't deal with it any longer.

Alone in the living room, Sonny is playing with Michael's handheld video game when Carly and Jason arrive. He talks about how good Michael was at the game that he was playing before Carly reminds him that it's time to go to the church. Sonny puts the video game down and turns to both of them. Speaking from the heart, he tells them both that he wasn't there in the beginning of Michael's life but he's grateful to both of them for sharing Michael with him.

Everyone has gathered for Michael’s funeral. Sonny, Carly and Jason enter the church. All three are visibly shaken when they look at the picture of Michael. Sonny approaches it and after a moment or so joins Carly and Jason in the front pew. Father Coates begins the memorial service. As he's speaking, Jason remembers the first time he ever held Michael as a newborn infant in the hospital with Bobbie instructing him on how to support Michael's head. During Emily's reading, Sonny reminisces about the discussion he and Michael had that led to Michael calling him daddy.

As Courtney gives her eulogy, Carly tearfully remembers a poignant time between her and Michael when they discussed how much Michael was like her and him telling her how glad he was that she was his mom.

Carly and Bobbie share a private moment before the guests arrive at Sonny's after the service. Carly asks Bobbie for her help with the reception since so many people attending can’t stand each other. Bobbie assures her that they all have their love for Michael in common and that will keep everyone on their best behavior. Carly tells Bobbie how much Michael loved her. Next, Emily, Lucky and Liz arrive. Carly thanks Emily for her reading, Liz expresses her sorrow for Carly’s loss, and Lucky is very tender with Carly (nice to see affection between the cousins). Then Jax and Courtney arrive. Courtney and Carly are both worried about Sonny.

When Carly goes to check on Sonny, standing in the doorway, he instructs Max to close the door as he pours himself a drink. He then tells him to send Jason in when he arrives. On the other side of the door Carly's worry is evident.
