Sonny & Carly #27  February 27 - April 8, 2004 - 8 hr original edit

Michael tells the judge he wants to live with both parents. Carly is offered shared custody with Sonny, but on his terms. She declines as she feels Sonny is trying to have power over her life after he kicked her out, so no deal. Courtney, Jason, Carly, and Sonny all wait in the court hallway for Michael's meeting with the judge to end. Carly and Sonny heatedly argue, with Sonny telling Carly she has to choose between her kids and Alcazar. Carly responds that all this entire thing is about is Sonny's need to control her, and she's had enough of it. In the judge's chambers, the judge asks Michael which parent he'd like to live with, and Michael replies that he doesn't want to live with either one. He then emerges from the chambers and into the hall where his parents are expectantly waiting. They look at him, and he runs to Jason and throws his arms around him. The judge then asks Carly and Sonny to come into his office, and they are both uneasy with what might be happening. In his office, the judge informs them that Michael has asked to live with Jason and Courtney. They both are shocked, and say that is unacceptable. The judge warns them that he will then have to consider all options, including foster care, and suggests they take a few moments to consider their course of action. Sonny and Carly agree that they have to find a way to figure the situation out, but neither is willing to give in. They begin to drop their guard to each other, and want to know if the other is in love with Sam and Alcazar. Sonny explains that Sam was a distraction for him to keep from doing something he'd regret, and Carly asks if that's what he wants for his life. Does he think he could fall in love with Sam?

Jason takes Michael back to the penthouse, and Michael tells him that he chose to live with him. Jason lets him know that he can't live with him because he's not Michael's parent, but Michael remembers the time that he was Jason's son, and tells him that he wants to be with him again. Jason clearly loves Michael as his own, but feels the need to be loyal to Sonny and Carly. He tells Michael that raising him was the happiest time of his life, but that he's only his uncle. He then shows Michael the first book he ever read to him, and is able to calm him down by reading from it again. Jason remembers his time with Michael as a baby, and promises he will never make Michael choose between his parents.

Sonny and Carly admit than neither of them is in love with another person. Just as they are about to say that they in fact love each other, Alcazar walks into the room and interrupts him. Sonny explodes when Carly admits she earlier asked Alcazar to meet her at the courthouse, and as the judge listens from outside the door, Sonny threatens Alcazar that if he ever finds his children with him, he'll kill him. The judge walks into the office, and angrily declares his disappointment in Sonny and Carly, and decides to go ahead with the trial. After they leave the chambers, Sonny walks into the court lobby and runs into Kristina. Alexis chases after her daughter and finds her with Sonny. Visibly uncomfortable at seeing him with Kristina, Alexis snatches her away and suggests that Sonny work on compromising with Carly. He tells Alexis that a man's family is his legacy, and she again advises him to compromise.

Carly goes back to her house with Alcazar, and discovers that he isn't helping her, but rather trying to destroy Sonny. She slaps him and tells him he's making the situation worse, and he replies that she's obviously still in love with Sonny. Carly calms down and tells Alcazar that she's very angry at Sonny, but does not want to hurt him. She tells him that Sonny is the father of her children, and she can't just shut her feelings off for him in an instant. Alcazar pretends to be understanding, and apologizes for making matters worse. But when Carly leaves the room, he heads for the phone to set more plans into action.

After Michael attempted to call her, Courtney rushes to the penthouse to make sure everything is okay. Jason tells her that Michael told the judge he wants to live with him and Courtney. Sonny bursts into the room and begins to yell at Courtney for tipping Carly off to Michael's talk with the judge, and Courtney tells him that it's only fair that Carly knows what is going on. Sonny doesn't want to hear it, and tells her she betrayed him, so Courtney lets him have his tantrum and walks out the door. Jason chastises Sonny for attacking Courtney, and Sonny tells him that he needs to let Courtney and Carly know which side he is on. Jason tells him it isn't about sides, it's about the kids, and how they need both parents, but Sonny refuses to allow joint custody because of Alcazar. As Sonny continues to rant about keeping Michael and Morgan away from Carly, Jason warns him he needs to get control of himself, or Jason will take his kids away from him.

Jax stops by Carly's new place and offers to testify in her behalf that Sonny is abusive toward women. But Carly refuses Jax's offer, telling him that she is not going to allow Jax to use Carly's custody hearing to grind Jax's axe about Sonny and Brenda. Alexis arrives to see Carly and is stunned when she learns that Carly refuses to use Jax's testimony in her custody hearing. After Jax storms away, Alexis warns Carly that she will need to expose Sonny's mental instability in court if Carly is to win custody. Carly blasts Alexis for her tactics and threatens to tell Sonny about Kristina unless Alexis comes up with some more creative ideas for winning custody. Alexis accuses Carly of staging her custody battle for no reason otherR than to attempt to get Sonny's attention and win her husband back. Carly retaliates by again threatening to reveal the secret of Katrina's paternity to Sonny and suggests that Alexis use Sonny's clandestine relationship with sneak-thief Samantha McCall to discredit Sonny's custody claims. As they argue, Jason arrives. Alexis advises Jason to talk Carly out of a custody battle if Carly is only trying to use family court to get her husband back then Alexis storms out. When Carly appeals to Jason for his help, Jason demands to know if Alexis is right. Carly admits that she still does care about Sonny, but has had no luck telling Sonny because they are always interrupted. Jason tries to persuade Carly to give up the custody battle to protect Michael and Morgan, but Carly refuses to listen. Carly confides to Jason that Alexis wants to tell the court that, statistically, men who were abused as children grow up to abuse their own children. Carly insists that she wants to protect Sonny and urges Jason to tell the court that Jason believes the children belong with Carly. Jason again urges Carly to arrive at a compromise with Sonny to keep from hurting Michael and Morgan any more.

Carly asks Alcazar for advice on what to wear at the custody hearing. He doesn't know but offers to be there for her when Sonny and his lawyers try to provoke her in court. Carly tells him he can't be in the courtroom with her since it wouldn't be good for her case. He is hurt by this but tries to hide it by acting like it is ok with him. Carly gets suspicious when he claims everything is going to work out in her favor and she will get her kids back. She asks him to promise not to do anything without telling her first. He promises not to do anything to hurt her case. However, he does go behind her back to meet with Faith on the docks. He tells Faith that she owes him for everything he just gave her. She agrees to come to the courthouse and provoke Sonny to show his dangerous side and informs a pleased Alcazar that she will use someone that is very important to Sonny to do that. Meanwhile, Sonny talks to Michael before he leaves for the courthouse. Michael asks Sonny if he is going to say something mean about Carly in court. Sonny tries to reassure him that he and Carly will handle things without him having to worry about anything and that they both will love him no matter what happens. Jason shows up dressed up. Michael asks him if he is going to court also. Jason tells Michael that he is going to testify in court and asks Sonny if he can hang out with Michael for a while before meeting him at the courthouse. Sonny OKs it and leaves. Jason tells Michael that he will tell the judge what he thinks is best for him and Morgan. Sonny runs into Sam at the courthouse. She tells him she came by to offer her support and feels that the children will be left with him in the end. Sonny politely suggests that she doesn't come into the courtroom since it won't look good to the judge. She tells him she should have thought of that and agrees to go and wait for him later at her yacht. Sonny and Justus see Ric at the courthouse and wonder what he is doing there. Justus informs him that Alexis got him to testify on Carly's behalf and wonders why she is so personally against him suddenly.

Alexis walks by them. Sonny stops Alexis and asks her what she is up to and suggests she shouldn't worry about making Carly angry but should worry about him instead. Alexis tells Justus that he should advise his client to stop harassing her. Jason shows up and suggests that Sonny stop this custody hearing before any real damage is done. Carly walks into the courthouse and struggles with her bracelet. She drops it on the floor and Sonny goes over and picks it up for her and puts it on her wrist. They start talking. Carly asks Sonny if he is as nervous as she is right now. He admits he is nervous also. Carly starts to tell him she hates what this is doing to the kids and to them and Sonny seems as if he is about to come to a compromise with her when the bailiff comes out and announces that the custody hearing is about to start.

Alexis calls Ric to the stand. She asks him if he is close to Sonny as his brother. Ric tells her he isn't close to Sonny. Alexis asks him what he thinks of Carly as a parent. He tells the judge that he believes Carly loves her children very much but doesn't think she is a more suitable parent than Sonny. Alexis is surprised since he is supposed to be a witness for Carly, not Sonny. Ric tells the judge that Sonny may be a little overprotective of his children but that he believes he loves his children deeply and could provide a better home for them than Carly. Carly stands up out of her seat and accuses Ric of being a lying piece of scum. Ric gets off the stand and the judge calls for a recess. Sonny asks Ric what he wants from him in return for testifying for him. He tells Sonny he does want a favor. Alexis scolds Carly for losing it in court by calling out like that. Carly worries what Ric's testimony will do to damage her case.

When the custody hearing reconvenes, Alcazar shows up which displeases Carly, who asks him why he came. He surprises her by informing her he had no choice since Sonny's lawyer subpoenaed him to testify. Faith walks in also and Carly worries when Courtney doesn't show up to testify. The judge asks where Courtney is since she is Alexis' next witness. Alexis tells him she should be here any minute now. Sonny goes off on Faith, realizing that she had something to do with Courtney's disappearance, not impressing the judge with his outburst. Justice runs over to Courtney's office and finds her tied up. He encourages her to not tell Sonny about this as he will be compelled to retaliate against Faith. Courtney testifies that the kids should be with Sonny and Carly, leading Carly to make an outburst in court. Alexis warns her that this is the second outburst and it could cause her to lose her kids. Courtney testifies that Sonny never endangers his kids and she took the kids out of town because Sonny was occupied in the hospital with Carly.

Carly yells at Courtney for her decision, but Courtney reminds her that she has always wanted them to share custody. If Carly didn't hear that, then she only heard what she wanted to hear. Carly attacks Jason saying he put Courtney up to this. Jason reminds her that shared custody is the best thing for the kids. Carly warns Jason that if he doesn't say she should have sole custody, then she'll have to testify about Sonny's unstable behavior.

Michael follows Sam from Kelly's to her boat, but hides when he sees Lorenzo arrive. Lorenzo tells Sam to spend more time with Sonny to benefit the trial. Sam tells Lorenzo that Sonny is a good father and she will support any decision he makes, even if it means Sonny goes back to Carly. Sam pulls a shotgun on Lorenzo and tells him to leave her boat. Michael follows Lorenzo to the docks and tells him to let his parents be together.

Courtney finds Faith in her office, who pushes the partnership issue while the custody hearing is going on. Faith warns Courtney that she should abide by her rules or trouble will be made for Sonny in his custody fight for his brats. Courtney grabs and attacks Faith and tells her not to insult her nephews. Courtney tells Faith to get the hell out of her office, but Faith grabs her gun and fires a shot, narrowly missing Courtney's head. Faith explains that was Courtney's last warning, and leaves.

Michael tells Alcazar to stay away from his mom, and not hurt her. Alcazar tentatively tries to reach out to the boy and explain to him that he won't hurt Carly. Alcazar explains that he isn't the one who yells at Carly and makes her cry. Michael is confused, but seems to understand that Alcazar is his mom's friend and wants only good for her. He agrees to allow Alcazar to take him home, but Courtney finds them before they leave the docks. She chases Alcazar off.

Alexis puts Jason on the stand and gets him to admit that Carly is a good mother. Jason continues to help Carly's case by explaining the length she's gone to for her children, and how much she loves them and will protect them. She also damages Sonny when she forces Jason to admit that Sonny is surrounded by constant violence. Justus has his chance with Jason next, and is able to repair some of the damage by getting Jason to say that Sonny is the best father that he knows. In the end, Jason helps neither Corinthos fully, when he admits that it's his opinion that the best thing for Michael and Morgan is shared custody. Once he's off the stand, Carly blasts him for not helping her. She tells him that he's left her no choice, and that she will have to testify against Sonny. She leaves and Sonny walks up to Jason to yell at him too, but Jason tells him he did what was best for the boys, and admits that Carly blackmailed him. Sonny is devastated to realize that Carly will tell the judge about his manic depression and breakdowns, and goes into the court to demand that Justus paint Carly as a liar and discredit her testimony. Carly takes the stand, and Alexis inquires about Sonny's mental instability and nervous breakdowns, and Carly can't say a word.

Alexis presses Carly, but is unable to get her to admit to mistreatment at the hands of Sonny. Carly lies and says that Sonny has never suffered from mental instability or breakdowns, and simply expresses her desire to be with her children. Fed up, Alexis ends her questioning. Sonny is overwhelmed by his wife's loyalty, and demands that Justus not attack her. Justus briefly takes a turn at Carly, who continues to defend her husband. Court adjourns, and Alexis angrily berates Carly for her foolish testimony. Carly tells her she isn't interested in destroying Sonny, she only wants her children, and Alexis had better get them regardless of Carly's testimony. Carly again threatens to tell Sonny about Kristina, and Alexis nervously watches as Carly takes Sonny aside to try and work out an agreement. Alcazar approaches them, sending Sonny packing, and questions Carly on her testimony. Carly defends her actions as being truthful, but Lorenzo continues to push her on whether she's wanting to now make amends with Sonny. Carly turns the tables and asks what it is that Lorenzo is wanting out of the situation.

Back at the penthouse, Sam shows up per Michael's invitation, and the boy asks her help in getting Alcazar out of his parents life so that they can get back together. Sam is uncomfortable, and assures Michael that Alcazar won't hurt him or his mom. Sonny and Jason walk in, and are surprised to find Sam there. Michael explains himself to Jason, and Sonny orders Jason to take Sam home. Sonny then sits down with his son, and tells him that he needn't worry about handling things, Sonny will take care of it. He talks a bit about the day at court, and says that Carly backed down, so now he might be able to do the same and they can try to work together on the situation.

On the docks, Sonny blasts Alexis for her plan to call Samantha as a witness. Sonny warns Alexis that he knows her weakness and will use what he knows to break his former attorney if that is the only option she leaves him. Alexis hands a subpoena to Sam any way, then storms away. Afterward, Sam quizzes Sonny about his previous relationship with Alexis. Sonny admits that he hit the sheets with Alexis one time. Sonny goes on to explain that he believed that Alexis had hope for a more long-term relationship with Sonny, and when things didn't work out the way Alexis had hoped, her feelings were hurt. Then Alexis blamed Sonny for her sister's death when Kristina was killed on the docks by a bomb intended for Sonny.

Carly meets with Jason in the park and confides that she still loves Sonny and could not bring herself to tell the world about Sonny's breakdowns but that she also cannot give up her children. As Carly assures Jason that she could not bear the thought of losing Jason's friendship during the custody hearing, Lorenzo suddenly shows up and tells Carly that he needs to speak to her alone. After Jason leaves, Carly admits that she believes that Lorenzo does love her, but that Lorenzo still hates Sonny enough to be willing to do whatever it takes to get back at Sonny. Lorenzo promises that now that he has sold his business to Faith, the pressure should ease up. In the meantime, Samantha listens as Sonny explains his complicated relationship with Alexis, then Samantha wonders if Sam's friendship with Sonny will end up being sacrificed on the altar of a casual fling. Sonny assures Sam that he does not plan for that to happen. Sam assures Sonny that she is not worried about testifying for Sonny in court. In the meantime, Faith tracks Courtney down and tells Courtney that Faith is expecting an important shipment soon and wants no interference from Courtney.

Later, Sam takes the stand at the custody hearing and both Sam and Sonny are stunned when Alexis suddenly begins quizzing Samantha about her past involvement in prostitution and auto theft. Sam reluctantly admits that, when she was 18, her boyfriend was much older than she was and was involved in an auto theft ring. When Sam realized that the man had been lying to her and using Sam to cover his activities, Sam testified against him. When Samantha asks what that has to do with custody of Sonny's children, Alexis begins to quiz Samantha about the times that Sam met Sonny's children and the time that Sam has been spending with Michael and Morgan. Sam admits that she had been at Sonny's Penthouse the previous evening, while Michael and Morgan were there. When Justus gets his chance, Justus asks Sam if Sonny asked her to be a part of his children's lives and Sam declares that the subject never came up for discussion. When Justus asks if Sonny knows about any of Sam's arrests, Sam testifies that she had never mentioned anything about her arrest record to Sonny. When Justus sits down, he whispers to Sonny not to make eye contact with Sam when she leaves. After she leaves the stand, Sam goes out into the hallway and breaks down in tears.

Justus quizzes Lorenzo about his past history with Sonny and Carly, including Lorenzo's plot to kidnap Carly. Lorenzo admits that he did have a woman undergo reconstructive surgery to resemble Sonny's deceased wife in order to create a rift between Sonny and Carly because Lorenzo was in love with Carly. When Alexis questions Lorenzo, Lorenzo tells Alexis that he went to such extreme measures because he was worried about Carly's safety as long as she remained with her abusive husband. Lorenzo explains that the extreme measures he used were solely to free Carly from an obviously abusive relationship with Sonny. Lorenzo goes in to detail about the way Sonny tried to kill Lorenzo at the same time that Lorenzo was assisting with the birth of Carly's son and that, when Sonny missed Lorenzo, it was Sonny who put the bullet into his own wife's head! Afterward, Justus puts Sonny on the stand to testify about Michael and Morgan's safety while in Sonny's care. When Alexis gets an opportunity to quiz Sonny, Alexis asks Sonny point blank about detonating a bomb in his Penthouse. Alexis rushes on to quiz Sonny about the way his first wife died in a car when the car was destroyed by a bomb intended for Sonny. Alexis then begins quizzing Sonny about his claustrophobia and begins to ask pointed questions about Sonny's childhood experiences, including an incident when Sonny's stepfather locked him in a closet and beat him. As Justus objects, Carly also rises and angrily orders Alexis to leave Sonny alone.

Sonny is called to the stand by Justus. Justus tries to establish to the judge that Sonny wanted to adopt Michael and has done everything he can to love and protect his sons. Alexis gets up to cross-examine him. She digs into his background and asks him if he is badly claustrophobic and he admits he is. She asks him if it is because he was locked in a closet as a boy by his stepfather who beat him and his mother. Sonny doesn't really respond but acknowledges that he was abused as a child. Alexis tries to paint a picture of Sonny as being unstable because of it and that is what caused him to have nervous breakdowns. Carly surprises everyone when she stands up and yells at Alexis to stop badgering Sonny about his childhood. The judge orders Carly to sit down but she refuses and accuses Alexis of having her own agenda. She tells Alexis to admit she has a secret she doesn't want anyone to know about.

The judge tired of hearing Alexis and Carly bicker and orders Carly to retake the stand again. He makes Carly tell him what she was referring to about a secret. Carly tells the judge that Alexis was once Sonny's lawyer and is in love with Sonny and that is why she made up the nervous breakdown scenario to get back at him for not loving her back. Alexis denies that is what is going on and tells the judge that she agreed to take Carly as a client because she doesn't believe that Sonny should be raising any child with his dangerous lifestyle. She admits that she used poor judgment but points out that when she slept with Sonny it was for one night and he was divorcing Carly at the time even then. The judge asks Justus if he has any questions for Carly and Justus says no. Alexis tells the judge that she would like to take herself off of the case and have someone else represent Carly. The judge points out that by doing that they would have to start a new hearing all over again and asks Carly and Sonny if they would be willing to do that. Carly and Sonny refuse to start the hearing over again. The judge denies Alexis' request and orders that the lawyers start their closing arguments after a short recess.

Alexis' closing argument is passionate as she opposes Sonny being allowed to raise any child in the dangerous environment he lives in. Alexis tells Carly that she is through with her since she undermined her whole case just now. Carly tells her that if she doesn't win custody she will tell Sonny about Kristina being his child and won't feel bad about it since if he is too busy going after Alexis he will leave her alone. After that, Carly talks to Alcazar. Sonny approaches her and invites her to come back to the penthouse and see the boys and have dinner. Carly thanks him and accepts his invitation. She shrugs at Alcazar and leaves with Sonny. Jason approaches Faith outside the courtroom and Courtney tries to stop him from causing a fight before the hearing is officially over.

Sonny and Carly ride in Sonny's limo. Sonny asks Carly why she stood up to Alexis in court and why she didn't tell the judge about his breakdowns when she could have done it and won custody easily. Carly tells him she couldn't do it after she saw him sitting there. She tells him it wasn't his fault that he was abused as a child and that he has breakdowns and that it is because he has an illness. Sonny refuses to talk about that and changes the subject. Suddenly, the car careens off the road a little. Max tells Sonny that the car's steering failed suddenly. Sonny orders him to arrange for another car to pick them up and

they will wait in the limo. Max goes and finds Jason at the penthouse. Alcazar is also there and overhears Max tell Jason that Sonny's car had problems and they need another one to pick Sonny and Carly up. Sonny asks Carly why she hired Alexis. Carly tells him that Alexis wins cases and so she wanted her to defend her since he was being such a jerk about he seeing the kids. Sonny doesn't deny that but asks her why Alexis would agree to represent her when she doesn't like her. Carly tells him that Alexis probably needed the money but Sonny doesn't buy it and tells her that Alexis' stunt had nothing to do with needing money and that she was acting desperate in court.

Sonny and Carly were very civil with each other in the car, discussing how neither was able to destroy the other in the courtroom during the custody battle. Sonny continued to wonder why Carly had Alexis representing her. On a more personal note, Sonny and Carly also spoke about how both of them were the type of people who had difficulty letting people in. Carly tried to convince Sonny that his breakdowns were not his fault, but Sonny did not want to talk about that. Really making progress in resolving some of their issues, they were then interrupted when Max returned with another car. Sonny and Carly returned to the courthouse, with the judge meeting both of them separately and privately. The judge told Carly he wasn't convinced either parent should have custody but that she had one more chance to convince him. Carly told the judge she had sought sole custody, reacting to Sonny's initial declaration that he would not share custody. In the corridor, Sonny tried to get at Alexis to figure out her role in all this. He told her they were both killers and what he thought about her trying to bring up any of his mental issues on the stand, since it was public record that she was crazy. When Sonny met the judge alone, the judge wanted to know how Sonny could promise to protect the children, given the history of violence surrounding him. Sonny appeared to be in deep thought about this. When court reconvened, the judge announced he had reached a decision!

The judge comes back with the decision of joint custody between Carly and Sonny for their sons. Carly agrees to the terms, and just as Sonny is about to do the same, an explosion rocks the courthouse. No one but Alcazar is injured, and Max runs into the courthouse to tell them it was a car bomb in Sonny's limo outside. Alcazar is taken away to the hospital, and Alexis loses it to the judge for allowing Sonny even partial custody. As she battles with Justus over the decision, Sonny shuts them all up by telling the judge that he was living in a fantasy for thinking that he could protect his children. He then shocks those around him when he asks the judge to give Carly full custody of Michael and Morgan. The judge happily gives the boys to Carly. Carly thanks Sonny for his decision, and lets him know that he can see the boys whenever he wants to. He goes home and prepares to get the boys ready for the move. He tells Michael that he'll always be their dad and will always love him. After telling Sonny that he did a good thing, Courtney warns Carly that she only has the ability to keep the boys safe if she deals with Alcazar. Carly says she now has to be the good parent too, and that she is ending things with Alcazar. She goes to see him at the hospital, but before she gets the chance to tell him it's over, he turns to her and announces that the bomb blast has left him blind.

Carly is overwhelmed with guilt because of Alcazar's blindness. He asks her what she came to tell him, but she can't bring herself to break things off. She says she'll sit with him, but he insists she go and be with her children. She finally agrees, and runs into Courtney on her way out of the hospital. Courtney is there to lend her support post-breakup, but Carly tells her that Alcazar's condition has forced her to not only stay with him, but invite him to live with her. Courtney is horrified by this news, and tells Carly that she can't blame herself for the explosion, or further destroy her life by staying with Alcazar. Sonny says a tearful goodbye to Michael, and tries as best he can to assure the boy that they will still see each other a lot, and that everything will be ok. Carly arrives to take the boys, and an agonized Sonny tries to rush the process. Carly assures him that she'd still prefer joint custody, but Sonny refuses. Michael helps Carly get Morgan ready to leave, but breaks down in the doorway when he sees his dad crying. He runs to Sonny, and Carly is devastated to see the effects the situation has had on her husband and son. Sonny is able to calm Michael down, and assure him again that they will always have a life together. Carly takes the boys away, and Sonny is clearly destroyed.

Sonny is surprised when he opens the front door of his Penthouse and Samantha collapses in his arms. Sam quickly explains that she saw someone planting the bomb in Sonny's car and, when the bomber realized that Sam had seen him, he stabbed her. Jason admits that he is mystified when Carly summons him to her home. Carly confides that she wants to make sure that Sonny is handling the loss of the boys okay. Jason reminds Carly that it was Carly who confided the information about Sonny's breakdowns to Alexis and Alexis used the information in court. Jason wonders why Carly cares about Sonny's state of mind now, since Carly got everything she wanted, including custody of the children and a new life with Lorenzo. Carly protests that Jason is wrong, but, as Jason and Carly argue, Jason is interrupted by a call from Sonny, asking Jason to rush to the Penthouse and Jason leaves without explaining anything to Carly. Later, as Carly tries to get Michael interested in a video game, Michael expresses his bewilderment about Sonny and Carly's breakup. When Carly promises that Sonny can come visit them any time, Michael asks if Sonny could come for breakfast in the morning and Carly agrees to invite Sonny.

Jason arrives at the Penthouse and Sonny explains that Samantha witnessed the bomb being planted. Sonny and Jason guess that the bomber was one of Faith's operatives. Sonny orders Jason to shake the truth about the bombing out of Faith then kill her! When Jason suggests that Sam needs a doctor, Sonny reminds Jason that if Sam were in the hospital, the bomber could make another attempt on her life. Carly visits Lorenzo in the hospital and Lorenzo confides that he believes that his vision can eventually be at least partially restored. Lorenzo tells Carly that if it looks like he will be permanently blind, he wants to be out of Carly's life. Carly assures Lorenzo that she will be there for him, no matter what! When Lorenzo begins to make plans to hire a private nurse until he adjusts to being without sight, Carly insists that there will be no need for a nurse, because Lorenzo will be coming home with her. Lorenzo tells Carly that he does not want to take advantage of her but Carly continues to assure Lorenzo that she wants him to come home with her.

A doctor arrives at the Penthouse and tends to Samantha's stab wound. He tells Sonny that, while Sam does not need to be in the hospital, she will need constant care until the infection has cleared out of her system. After the doctor gives Sonny some antibiotics for Sam, he leaves. After the doctor is gone, Samantha asks Sonny to take her somewhere else to hide her out. But Sonny assures Sam that she will be safe if she stays at the Penthouse. Samantha confides to Sonny that, after she spotted the bomber running away from the explosion, she headed to her ship, but the bomber followed her. While Sam hid on the ship, the bomber searched for her and, when he couldn't find her, he wrote: "You can run, but you can't hide," on Sam's mirror. When Sam believed the bomber was gone, she came out of hiding and was on her way to the Penthouse when the bomber spotted her in the alley and stabbed her. Sonny reminds Sam that this happened to her because she knows Sonny but Sam declares that she went back to her ship because she planned to leave town without saying anything to anybody about spotting the bomber. As they talk, Sam asks Sonny to hold her hand, then she falls asleep on the couch. Samantha begins to have a nightmare about struggling with the bomber. As Sonny rushes to Samantha's side, and puts a reassuring arm around her, Carly suddenly opens the door and sees Sonny and Samantha cuddled up on the couch. The bomber calls his boss and reports that someone saw him set the bomb, then ran into Sonny's building. The bomber announces his plan to stick around until he is able to 'clean up."

Luke goes to see Sonny to thank him for not killing Faith and that he has his own use for her. Sonny agrees to back off of Faith as long as Luke agrees to report back to him whatever plans Faith tells him about and that if something does happen that is tied to him he will know that Luke never warned him. Luke goes back to the casino. Faith puts the broken bottle down and the two women pretend nothing happened. Faith sees Luke and thanks him for saving her life. Sonny upsets Skye when he acts too friendly to Faith about her finding ways to thank him. Skye takes off. Luke tells Faith about his meeting with Sonny and how if she tries to kill Sonny or his family all bets are off. Luke expects her to give him more money for the casino and to stay away from Skye or he will give her to Sonny and Jason to take care of.

Carly goes to see Sonny at the penthouse. She finds him sitting on the couch with Sam leaning against his shoulder. She tells him she will talk to him another time and turns to leave, trying to hide how upset she is. Sonny tells her that Sam was stabbed after seeing a man place the bomb under his car and that the man is after her and will try to kill her. Carly tells Sam she is in a safe place and then turns to leave. Sonny stops her and asks her what she came to talk to him about. Carly tells him that Michael wants to invite him to come over tomorrow for breakfast. Sonny tells her he will be there. Courtney pays Alcazar a visit. She informs him that Carly was planning on breaking up with him before she came to the hospital and only decided to stay with him out of pity. Alcazar doesn't want to believe her. Courtney tells him off about ruining Carly's life and how Carly still loves Sonny. Carly walks in the hospital room and overhears Courtney tell Alcazar that Carly doesn't really love him and thinks he is pathetic and weak. Carly tells her that is enough and tells her to leave before they both say something they don't mean. Courtney tells her that Alcazar ruined her life and that if she stays with him, she will soon live to regret it and it may be too late to mend things with those who love her. Carly tells Alcazar that Courtney was wrong about what she said to him. Alcazar tells Carly that he believes Courtney and asks her for the truth about whether she was planning to break up with him before she came here the first time. Carly tries to change the subject. Alcazar tells her he doesn't want her if she is only with him out of pity or guilt. Carly tells him that he took care of her when she needed help and that she wants to return the gesture and help him.

Sonny asks Jason to protect Sam with his life since the man who planted the bomb is after her. Courtney shows up at his apartment to find him sitting with Sam. She makes an excuse to leave. Jason asks her what she wanted from him. She tells him that she just saw Alcazar and that wanted to ask for his opinion. Jason tells her they can't talk now when she asks him why Sam is there and what is wrong with her. Sonny walks in and reminds Courtney that she doesn't want to have anything to do with their business. Courtney tells Sonny and Jason that she has a hard time remembering that and leaves. Sonny lies down with Sam to try and get her to go to sleep. Sonny finds himself thinking of Carly while he comforts Sam.

Michael anxiously awaited Sonny's promised visit for breakfast. When Carly called Sonny, though, Sonny announced he could not make it because Sam had almost fainted in his arms. Carly had Courtney come over to see if she could talk to Michael about his disappointment. Courtney was upset when Carly said she was going to visit Lorenzo at the hospital. At the penthouse, Sonny had some very nice clothes shipped there to Sam. As she was looking at them, Michael stormed in demanding to know why Sonny had broken a promise to him. Michael interrogated Sonny about Sam's presence. Sonny returned Michael to the house and made him apologize to Courtney. Sonny asked Jason to go back to the penthouse and watch over Sam. Jason found a note from Sam, telling Sonny that things were getting too complicated and that she was going to disappear. She returned to her ship, with the bomber waiting for her with a gun. Jason arrived, gun in hand, as the bomber took tight hold of Sam, gun to her head!

Carly found Alcazar at his apartment, rather than the hospital. He tried to push her away, not wanting her to pity him or take care of him because of his blindness. Carly insisted on wanting to help, telling him that he mattered to her and that she was not lying about that. They shared a kiss. After Carly left, Alcazar received a call from Luke who claimed to have a score to settle with Sonny and that perhaps he could help in Alcazar's vendetta against Corinthos. After Alcazar hung up the phone, a woman dressed as a nurse arrived. Alcazar said he wanted a shave. The nurse began to lather his face and then stuck a straight razor against his neck. She spoke, revealing herself to be Faith! She wanted to know who was responsible for the bombing of Sonny's limo. Alone together, Michael asked if Sonny still loved him and Morgan. Sonny said that of course he did. Michael then asked if Sonny still loved Carly, and Sonny said he would always love her. Michael shared that information with Carly, in front of Sonny, when she returned, and wanted to know why they couldn't all live together. Michael ran out of the room. Sonny said that maybe it was better back when he and Carly did everything they could to stay together, for the sake of the children. Carly wanted to know what he was suggesting.

Carly and Sonny continue to argue over who is to blame for the breakup of their family. Sonny tries to convince her that Alcazar destroyed their life, but Carly tells him to leave Lorenzo out of the argument for once. She points out that it was Sonny who was unfaithful to her, and that he doesn't seem interested in getting rid of Sam in order to try and fix things. Sonny replies that he owes Sam because she was stabbed, and Carly snaps back that Lorenzo his blindness, because he ordered the bombing. Carly refuses to believe him, and having accomplished nothing, Sonny leaves.

Jason drops his own weapon, and tries to negotiate. Having none of Jason's suggestions, the bomber moves to shoot them both, but Jason pulls a second weapon and attempts to take the bomber out. Sam is left in the room as the bomber runs out with Jason in pursuit. Jason returns moments later to tell her the man got away. He takes her back to Sonny's penthouse, where an irritated Sonny tells her she needs to stay under his protection. Sam counters that she doesn't want to be the one who hurts Michael, but Sonny tells her she has nothing to do with Michael's despair. Sam goes upstairs, and Jason returns having again failed to find bomber. He explains to Sonny that he thinks Faith is telling the truth about not being the one who put out the hit, so Sonny tells him to find a way to tie Alcazar to it. As Sonny begins to discuss plans, Jason stops him and suggests he not conduct business with Sam in the apartment. Sonny says he doesn't need to worry about her, and that he wants her with him rather than a safehouse. Sam emerges at the top of the stairs in time to hear Jason point out that Sonny doesn't want Sam, he simply wants something to fill the void of Carly and the boys.

Carly questions Alcazar about the ferocity of his guards. He explains Faith's visit (she came in and held a knife to his throat), and Carly asks him if he was behind the bombing. Alcazar denies it, but Carly points out that he had every reason to order the hit. He denies it again, and she agrees to believe him. She takes him to the balcony and describes the stars for him. Once she goes into the apartment, the bomber emerges and demands additional money from Alcazar since he has been identified by Sam and Jason. Alcazar refuses, and tells him that his only job was to plant the bomb and then leave town. Realizing that Alcazar is blind, the bomber requests half a million dollars, or he'll tell Mrs. Corinthos who was behind the bombing of her husband's limo.

Jason tells Sonny that the only reason Sam is around is because Sonny doesn't want to be alone. He reminds Sonny that he is only using her to fill the void of Carly. Sonny replies that he has no illusions of love for Sam, and that he's been very clear to her regarding the terms of their relationship. Sam overhears this exchange, and is visibly disappointed. Carly interrupts Alcazar on the balcony as he is being blackmailed by the bomber, but doesn't realize that there is anyone else there. When she mentions her heard voices and wants to see if someone is out there, Alcazar throws a tantrum and tells her he needs space. He orders her to leave, and she does. Back at her house, Carly receives a visit from Jason, who wants to check on her and the boys. Carly rips into Sonny over his relationship with Sam, and while Jason agrees, he feels the need to point out Carly's commitment to Alcazar. He allows her to explain how she feels obligated to Alcazar now that he is blind, but he points out that Carly doesn't love Alcazar, because she's still in love with Sonny.

Sonny's is making out with Sam and is interrupted by Courtney. Courtney glares at Sam and delivers child custody papers for Sonny to sign. He moves to sign them, but Courtney tries to persuade him to rethink his actions and put his family back together. She tells him that Carly was going to leave Alcazar before she found out that he was blind, but Sonny angrily retorts that Carly has made her choice. Courtney refuses to help him by passing the papers on to Carly, and she leaves, warning him that if he burns too many bridges, Carly will be unable to find her way back to him.

Carly and Lorenzo's kiss is interrupted by Sonny's knock at the door. Sonny announces that he has come to drop off the custody agreements. Back at the Penthouse, Sam suggests to Jason that Sonny might be happier with Sam than with Carly. Lorenzo listens attentively as Sonny and Carly discuss the final arrangements for custody of Michael and Morgan, including child support. After Sonny leaves, Lorenzo confides to Carly that he can tell that the visit from her ex upset her. Carly declares that she wants Sonny to be in her sons' lives. Carly asks if Lorenzo wanted Carly or just wanted to take Carly away from Sonny. Lorenzo admits it was a little of both. Lorenzo continues, even when Carly was a captive aboard Alcazar's yacht, Lorenzo believed that Carly was an incredible, courageous woman who was trapped in a marriage to an abusive husband. Lorenzo also admits that he knows that Carly still has feelings for Sonny and declares that Lorenzo can live with that situation for the time being. Carly informs Lorenzo that she needs more time to be able to return Lorenzo's unconditional love, and Lorenzo decides to go home.

Sonny returns to the Penthouse and instructs Jason to keep an eye on Carly, Michael and Morgan because Sonny doesn't want to keep showing up when Carly is with Lorenzo. Sonny confides that Courtney had raised his hopes when Courtney had reported that Carly had planned to break up with Alcazar before Carly discovered that Lorenzo had been blinded in the explosion at the courthouse. But, when Sonny took the custody agreement over to Carly as an excuse for seeing her, he had spotted Carly and Lorenzo in a lip lock. Sonny admits to Jason that he will probably always love Carly but it is not likely that Carly would change her mind and, for the time being, having Samantha around has helped Sonny cope with the fact that Carly, Michael and Morgan are now a separate part of his life.

Jason stops by Carly's house with a toy he fixed for Michael. Carly confides that she had expected Sonny to blow a fuse when he saw Lorenzo in the living room, but Sonny's cool manner leads Carly to conclude that Sonny was just too eager to get back to Samantha to care what Carly was doing. Carly confesses that she will love Sonny until the day that she dies. Samantha emerges from a shower at the penthouse and Sonny suggests that Samantha go away with him to the island to stay away from the hit man who has targeted Sam. Sam enthusiastically agrees and quickly packs. Sonny warns Samantha that he plans to spoil her and doesn't want to hear anything more about how independent she is. Sonny and Sam take Sonny's private jet to the island. When they arrive there, the maitre d' of the hotel wonders about Carly. Sonny informs him that Sam is his special guest and to make sure she has a car at her disposal as well as money in an account so she can go shopping on the island. Sonny insists that Sam enjoy the gifts he is going to give her and to spend money if she wants. They make love and later, Sam starts to feel that she is intruding on his memories with Carly that he had here on the island and suggests that he go back home and spend time with his children instead of babysitting her and pampering her. A box arrives at their room and Sam finds out is a gown for her to wear in the casino later. She puts the gown on and Sonny presents her with a sparking pair of dangling earrings to wear with the gown

Carly and Jason discover that Morgan has a high temperature and Jason urges Carly to rush Morgan to the Emergency Room. Carly and Jason become concerned when Morgan comes down with a very high fever. Jason suggests they take him to the hospital and leave Michael with Leticia since he is still asleep. Carly suggests they have Leticia tell Michael where they are so he won't worry. Jason thinks they should not worry about Michael right now. They go to GH with Morgan. While Morgan is being examined, Carly frets about him. She suggests they call Sonny and let him know and asks Jason to call him. Jason hesitates when she asks him where Sonny is. He tells her that Sonny went to the island and Carly guesses that Sam went with him. She gets upset and tells Jason not to bother telling Sonny about Morgan and allow him to enjoy his "little vacation." Jason feels she should call Sonny and tell him about Morgan since he is his son. Carly is against calling Sonny about anything. Jason tells her she has no right to judge Sonny when she is still with Alcazar herself.

Carly finds Alcazar in the waiting area. She asks him what he is doing there. He tells her he came to have some tests run. She sits with him and tells him about Morgan's high fever. She also tells him that Sonny is off on the island with Sam right now. She feels bad about still feeling upset about Sonny and how he must be losing his patience with her not returning his feelings for her. The doctor comes out into the waiting area and informs Carly that there have been complications they didn't foresee with Morgan. He tells her that Morgan just suffered a seizure a little and had been moved to ICU Jason calls Sonny on the island and tells him that Morgan is in the hospital. The doctor told Carly, in front of Jason and Alcazar, that baby Morgan had just had a seizure and had been diagnosed with scarlet fever. Carly panicked but was calm and reassuring while holding Morgan. Jason tried to get Alcazar to leave, but he would go no further than the visitors' lounge. There, the hired bomber visited, demanding his extra money for the bombing of Sonny's car. If Alcazar would not comply, then the bomber said he would go to Carly. Carly spotted them together, but Alcazar pretended the man was simply a hospital visitor in need of directions. The next batch of news from the doctor was that the antibiotics were working and Morgan was improving.

Sonny and Sam returned to their room from the casino at the island, with winnings. Sam accused him of fixing the game for her and said she would have to "reciprocate". They were interrupted by a phone call from Jason, with the news Morgan was sick. On the plane trip home, Sonny blamed himself for the illness, stating that he did not deserve to have a child of his own. Sonny then cited the examples of Lily's death while pregnant and the miscarriage Carly had suffered in the past. Sonny and Sam arrived at the hospital. Sonny went into Morgan's room, and, in the corridor, Jason suggested to Sam that she probably shouldn't be near the room, for Carly's sake. The bomber spied on Jason and Sam. Sam thought she saw someone out of the corner of her eye and walked away in pursuit. Sam followed him all the way to the waterfront, where he met a man and received a briefcase of money. He told the man he had no intentions of leaving until all the witnesses were dead. The man stated the boss (and referred to him by the male gender) would not like that. Once the man left, Sam continued to watch and, when making a slight move, made a creaking sound on the dock. The bomber turned towards her. The assassin meets with a partner as Sam eavesdrops on his conversation and discovers he was working for a man when he planted the bomb in Sonny's car. The assassin hears Sam stir, and goes to see who is there, but is first interrupted by Luke. Luke manages to save Sam from the man, and drags her out of her hiding spot once the assassin in gone. She confesses that she's trying to get the goods on him for Sonny, and Luke warns her that Sonny doesn't like his women to butt into his business. He says that she'll have to come clean with Sonny, or he'll tell him. Sam agrees to Luke's terms, and calls Sonny.

Carly and Alcazar were in the hospital chapel together when Sonny raged in, accusing her of causing Morgan's illness by neglecting him and fooling around with Alcazar. Carly shot back, angry at Sonny for being out of town with Sam at the island, a place Carly felt was special to her and Sonny. Angry to find her with Alcazar, Sonny lays into Carly about neglecting Morgan by not phoning Sonny immediately. Astonished, Carly rips back into him and tells him that she was too preoccupied being a mother to her sick son to track Sonny down with his new girlfriend. It's clear that each is angry about the other's involvement with their new partners, and they continue to trade insults and fight. Alcazar breaks in to warn Sonny to lay off Carly, only adding fuel to the fire. Sonny is interrupted by Sam's phone call, and leaves to meet her. Carly thanks Alcazar for sticking up for her, and he suggests to Carly that she withhold time with the boys from Sonny if he can't learn to speak to their mother with more respect. She tells him that she doesn't think she could use the boys as a weapon against Sonny, and an irritated Alcazar reminds her that Sonny did just that to her.

Sonny gently chastises Sam for her near-brush with trouble. He warns her to not do his dirty work for him, and she replies that she's not some helpless little woman. She promises to leave it alone and Sonny forgives her. Not trusting her fully, he takes her back to wait at the hospital while he checks on Morgan, but she goes and finds Carly. She tells Carly that it was her fault that Sonny went to the island, but Carly knows better and makes Sam realize she has no idea who she's dealing with in Carly. As the two verbally joust, Sonny comes upon them and tells Sam she has no business being there. Carly laughs at Sam for thinking her experience on the island was unique, and the two begin to argue. Sonny comes upon them, and tells Sam she has no business being there. Carly demands he get rid of Sam, and walks off. Sonny tells Sam he understands she's trying to help, but warns her to never approach Carly again. He has Jason take her back to the penthouse, and Sam proceeds to immediately being annoying Jason. In the car, Sam talks nonstop about her situation with Sonny, and tries to get a reaction out of Jason with her declaration of staying in Sonny's life as long as she possibly can, but Jason doesn't comply. Back at the penthouse, Sam asks him to leave, but he tells her that he's staying. She asks him what he wants, and Jason responds that he'd like her to shut up. Miffed, Sam decides to do exactly what he doesn't want, and declares that she will stay up and annoy him until he leaves.

Sonny goes into Morgan's room and checks up on his condition. Carly tells him that the medicine is working, so Sonny decides to go and see Michael. Carly asks him to not visit Michael, and reminds him that she now has custody. When Sonny asks if she plans to keep him from their children, Carly responds by reminding him that Sam is a career con artist and prostitute, and Carly refuses to allow her around her children. Sonny retorts that she now knows how he feels. He leaves to visit Michael, but returns later and gazes lovingly at Carly as she rocks Morgan to sleep. Carly informs Courtney that Morgan has improved so much that the doctor plans to release him today. Elsewhere in the Hospital, Lorenzo's hired gun shows up again and reminds Lorenzo that he does not plan to leave town until after Samantha and Jason are dead. But Lorenzo tells the assassin that he doesn't care what happens to Jason, but wants Sam alive to keep Sonny busy so Lorenzo will be free to continue romancing Carly.

Outside Morgan's room, Carly complains to Courtney that Samantha showed up at the hospital and let Carly know that Sonny took Sam to his island, bought her a designer dress and took her gambling. Courtney suggests that Carly should tell Sam to hit the road because Carly wants her husband back. At the Penthouse, Samantha is startled out of her sleep when Sonny arrives suddenly and discovers Sam and Jason sacked out together on the couch. When Sam frantically tries to explain the situation to Sonny, Sam is startled when Sonny merely assures Sam that he is just happy that she is safe and is not jumping to conclusions about Sam and Jason falling asleep on the couch. Sonny reports that Morgan is recovering, then heads upstairs to change. When Sonny leaves, Sam asks why Jason did not try to help her explain the situation to Sonny but Jason reminds Sam that Sonny should have no reason to misunderstand the situation. When Sonny returns, Sonny is surprised when Sam persists in trying to explain why she was asleep on the couch with Jason. Sonny reassures Sam that he could tell it was an innocent situation and declares that he plans to fix a gourmet meal for her then Sonny orders Sam to play it safe while Sonny goes shopping for groceries.

Courtney tries to convince Carly that Lorenzo's "concern" for Morgan is all an act, but Carly defends Lorenzo just as Lorenzo walks around the corner and hears the tail-end of their conversation. As Courtney informs Lorenzo that Carly wants Courtney to make an effort to make peace with Lorenzo, Jason arrives and orders Lorenzo to stay away from Courtney. Courtney declares that she doesn't want to get in the middle of another fight and storms away. Carly begs Jason to follow Courtney to apologize but Jason argues that he has no need to apologize because he hasn't done anything wrong and refuses to do as Carly asks. When Lorenzo steps in and reminds Jason that Carly has had a rough night, Sonny walks in on the argument and reminds Lorenzo that Alcazar is not a part of Morgan's family. Sonny orders Lorenzo to leave. But Lorenzo insists that he will only leave if Carly asks him to go. As she prepares to leave the Hospital, Courtney runs into Sam and warns her brother's girlfriend not to try to score points with Sonny by pretending a lot of concern for a sick child. Sonny and Lorenzo's argument is interrupted by a nurse, who arrives to get Morgan ready to leave the Hospital. Sonny offers to drive Carly and Morgan home, but Lorenzo reminds Carly that he has his limousine waiting downstairs to take Carly home. Carly thanks Lorenzo for being so supportive, but declares that, since Jason took Carly and Morgan to the hospital, Carly will let Jason take her home.

Sam protests to Courtney that she is not using any kind of manipulative ploy to make points with Sonny. Then Sam reminds Courtney that Sonny likes Sam even if Courtney doesn't approve. When Courtney accuses Sam of flaunting her affair with Sonny in Carly's face, Sam protests that it was Carly who made a big deal about Sonny's trip to the island with Sam. As Sam and Courtney argue, Sonny arrives and orders Courtney and Sam to end their argument. After Courtney storms away, Sam explains that she had only come to the Hospital to inquire at the desk about Morgan's condition and had no intention of going to Morgan's room. Sam is surprised when Sonny declares that he believes her and instructs her not to worry about it. When Jason, Carly and Morgan arrive at Carly's house, Michael asks why Sonny didn't come with them and Carly makes the excuse that Sonny was busy. After Michael goes with Leticia to put Morgan to bed, Jason blasts Carly for lying to Michael. Carly insists that Sonny does have other things to do mostly with his new girlfriend! As Jason accuses Carly of trying to pay Sonny back because of Sonny's relationship with Sam, Jason warns Carly that, once Alcazar realizes that Carly's relationship with Lorenzo is just Carly's way of paying Sonny back for hurting her, Alcazar is likely to come uncorked!

Alcazar arrives at Carly's place to check on Carly. Michael slips into the hallway and spots Carly and Lorenzo kissing as Carly tries to convince Lorenzo to stay for dinner. Sonny returns to the Penthouse and finds Samantha all dressed up in the dress that Sonny bought for her, waiting for Sonny's return. As Sonny and Sam kiss, the phone rings and Michael tells Sonny that his stomach hurts and he hears funny noises. Michael asks Sonny to come over. As Sonny tries to reassure Michael, the line suddenly goes dead! As Carly and Lorenzo kiss downstairs, Carly suddenly spots someone lurking outside the window and whispers her discovery to Lorenzo. Lorenzo orders Carly to cut the power, lock herself in the bedroom with the children and dial 911. Carly hands Lorenzo the fireplace poker, then does as he instructed her. As Lorenzo waits in the darkened room with a fireplace poker in his hands, the hired assassin picks the lock and slips in at the front door, discovering that the lights don't work.

Carly and Leticia keep Michael and Morgan quiet in the bedroom. Alcazar warns the advancing assassin to leave now or he will be hunted down and killed. The assassin declares that he had decided that Lorenzo would obviously need to eliminate his hired gun or later because of what he knows, so the assassin has decided to eliminate Lorenzo first. As Lorenzo strikes the assassin from behind with the poker, Carly hears the struggle and decides to go back downstairs to help Lorenzo. As the assassin throws Lorenzo against the wall and knocks him out, Carly arrives with a baseball bat in her hands. As Carly prepares to hit the assassin, Sonny arrives, flings open the door and shoots the assassin in the back. Sonny blasts Carly for trying to tackle an armed intruder with a baseball bat and Carly blasts Sonny for taking a shot in the dark, reminding Sonny that he could not have known who he was shooting at! As Lorenzo regains consciousness, Carly confirms that the intruder is dead, and Sonny declares that the intruder fits the description of the hit man who planted the bomb in Sonny's limousine. Sonny demands to know if the assassin was after Carly or after Lorenzo! Sonny asks Lorenzo if Lorenzo paid the guy to blow up the limousine and then the deal went wrong. Lorenzo makes no reply to Sonny's questions.

After Sonny shoots and kills the assassin who broke into Carly's home, he questions Alcazar and accuses him of hiring the assassin to blow up his car and that the assassin probably came to kill him to keep him quiet. Alcazar accuses Sonny of hiring the assassin to come in and kill him instead. Sonny goes up to talk to Michael. Carly goes upstairs to join them. Alcazar gets up and goes over to the dead assassin and searches his pockets for any evidence that could link the assassin to him. Sonny tells Michael that Carly was a very brave woman and protected the family when the intruder came into the house. Michael worries about the police arresting Sonny but he assures Michael he won't be arrested. Sonny goes downstairs and catches Alcazar searching the assassin's pockets. He asks him if he found anything he needed to hide. Alcazar claims he was trying to look for any identification. The police show up along with Ric, who tells him he is in charge of the investigation. Carly, Alcazar, and Sonny tell the cops what happened. Ric questions Sonny's real motives for killing the assassin. Sonny predicts that Ric will use this as an excuse to arrest Sonny. Sonny tells Ric to go ahead and arrest him. Carly tells Ric that she will call the media on Ric and will make sure the public sees that he is arresting Sonny for personal reasons. The new cop backs Ric up which doesn't surprise anyone. Alcazar tells Ric it isn't necessary to arrest Sonny since there is no evidence that points to anything but self-defense since the assassin was an intruder in the home. Ric backs off but insists he will keep investigating the assassin's death.

Carly thanks Alcazar for defending Sonny. Sonny refuses to thank Alcazar and still accuses him of hiring the assassin. Alcazar claims that when the assassin and he were fighting, the assassin told him he was looking for Jason to kill. Carly tells Sonny that could be what the assassin was trying to do since she remembers seeing the man spying on them at the hospital and may have overheard them when she asked Jason to take her home earlier with the baby. Michael comes downstairs and begs to go home with Sonny and wants Carly and the baby to come back home with Sonny. Carly tells him Sonny is going home to the penthouse alone. Michael gets upset and tells her that he wants Sonny to stay and for Alcazar to go away. Sonny goes home and tells Jason what happened. He brings up the theory that the assassin was at the house to kill him since Carly saw the assassin at the hospital. Jason tells him that it doesn't make sense since he dropped Carly and the baby home this afternoon hours before the assassin showed up. Sonny believes the assassin was there to kill Alcazar. Sonny tells Jason that if he hadn't decided to go see Michael to check on him, he may have lost his whole family and is glad he hadn't stayed with Sam like he had planned to do. Sam overhears what Sonny said. Carly sits with Alcazar. She suddenly comes to the realization that she remembers seeing Alcazar talking to the assassin earlier when he told him directions to get to the billing office. Alcazar tells her he couldn't see what the assassin looked like and claims that he doesn't know who he is. Carly wonders if Alcazar had anything to do with the assassin and if he is lying to her.

Sonny told Sam that the assassin was dead, and she reasoned that she didn't need to stay at the penthouse anymore. Sonny let her know that it wasn't necessary for her to leave. Ric and Detective. Duncan interrupted them at the penthouse. Ric baited Sam by insinuating she was there as a prostitute for Sonny. Sonny told her not to let Ric get to her and went to Ric's office. Jason met Sonny there and was told by Sonny to go to the penthouse and tell Sam to stay. During Ric and Sonny's meeting, Ric questioned whether Sonny was actually trying to shoot Alcazar rather than the assassin. Sonny blamed the interrogation on Ric's vendetta, the fact that their mother had chosen Sonny. Ric blasted that Sonny was the worst of his two fathers, violent like Deke and selfish like Mike. He continued by exclaiming that he himself was trying to be better than his own father and was trying to do so by being with Elizabeth and preparing for a baby that wasn't even his; he knew he would be a better man than Sonny. Elizabeth overheard the loud argument from the corridor and charged into the office and asked if that was his reason for being with her!

Carly remembered seeing the assassin with Alcazar at the hospital. Alcazar said he obviously couldn't have recognized him because of the blindness, and Carly wondered why Alcazar wouldn't have recognized the killer's voice. Finally, Carly believed him when he said he was too focused on following the killer's voice rather than thinking about the tone of the voice. They went upstairs to her bedroom, and, as she was about to turn out the light, he told her not to do so. Both were surprised as Alcazar said he was able to see! At that point, he could only see images against light, but they took it as a good sign. Carly admitted that she finally believed that he loved her, and they proceeded to have sex. Both of them fell asleep, and, when Carly awoke during the night, she reached for Alcazar's jacket and discovered some papers. Alcazar woke up, too, and realized what Carly had and remembered taking papers from the pockets of the dead assassin. Carly was startled when Alcazar asked her what she was doing!

Sonny arrives home and discovers Sam's packed to leave, and he asks her to stay. Sonny asks Sam to stay with him at the penthouse, and when she asks why, he tells her she fills the void and keeps him company. She blurts out to him that since he's been honest with her, he needs to know that she's falling in love with him. Sonny is shocked, but takes her to bed anyway. After they have sex, he dreams that Carly comes back to the penthouse and tells him she made a mistake and wants to come home. He rushes to her and kisses her, but then awakes to find Sam next to him. He goes downstairs, and Sam follows him and asks what is wrong. He tells her that he can't give her what she wants, but she says that she doesn't expect him to love her back, she will just take whatever she can get. So he asks her again to stay, and she does.

Carly rummages through Alcazar's pocket and finds a note with blood on it. She dials the number on the paper, and is stunned to discover that it's Alcazar's phone. She again confronts him about hiring the assassin to bomb Sonny's limo. Jason gets information on the assassin that further proves to him that Alcazar was the one who hired the hit. Carly is stunned to discover that the number on the bloody note was Alcazar's. She flies into a rage at him, accusing him again of hiring the hitman and telling him that they are over. He finally confesses, but swears that he did it for her. Carly tells him to leave, but he tries to explain his actions. Carly is devastated to realize that she's thrown her life away for him, but Alcazar will not let her go. He pleads with her to understand, but she screams at him to leave. He refuses to go, and tells her that he will never be out of her life. He tells her that he will go for the night to let her calm down, and as he's walking out the door, Carly knocks him out with a vase.

Sonny stops by Jason's Penthouse and offers his sympathy to Emily. After Emily goes upstairs, Jason reports that the hit man was a known associate of Lorenzo's brother, Luis Alcazar. Sonny tells Jason that they need more information to tie the hit man to Lorenzo so that Carly can get Lorenzo out of her life permanently. Sonny assures Samantha that she now needs to regard the Penthouse as her home. Later, Sonny confides to Sam that he believes that they have a lot in common, because Sam's defensiveness reminds Sonny of himself. Then Sonny leaves "to take care of some business." Lorenzo regains consciousness and finds Carly standing over him in Carly's basement. Lorenzo asks why Carly is holding him prisoner, but Carly ducks the question. Later, Carly is surprised when Courtney shows up on Carly's doorstep. Although Carly claims that she just needs Jason, Courtney assures Carly of her support and Carly finally confesses that she has Lorenzo handcuffed to a pipe in the basement and doesn't know what to do with Alcazar now. Carly admits that Lorenzo confessed to her that it was Lorenzo who hired the assassin to blow up Sonny's car, so the Judge would realize just how dangerous Sonny was and then would award full custody of Michael and Morgan to Carly. Carly also reports that Alcazar has regained his sight. Courtney warns Carly that if Jason learns about Lorenzo's confession, Jason will just decide that it is time for Alcazar to die. Then Courtney asks if Carly is ready for that to happen.

Ric arrives at the Penthouse to see Sonny and finds Samantha patiently waiting for Sonny to return. When Sam coldly informs Ric that Sonny is obviously not home, Ric declares that he will wait. As Ric waits, he bluntly asks Samantha how much Sonny is paying Sam to warm Sonny's bed. Sam protests that she was framed on the prostitution charge in the same way that Ric keeps trying to frame Sonny. Ric suggests that Sonny is unaware of some of the more unsavory details of Sam's past, but Sam dares Ric to print out a copy of her rap sheet and give it to Sonny, boasting that Sam knows that Sonny trusts her. Ric informs Sam that Sonny is merely using Sam to distract Sonny following the loss of Sonny's family. When Sam protests that she knows how Sonny feels about her, Ric points out that Sonny never takes Sam out in public and never allows Sam to spend time with his children. Ric smugly suggests that Sam is an embarrassment to Sonny. Sonny returns home before Sam can continue the argument and Sonny orders Ric to leave. Ric informs Sonny that Elizabeth has left him, and, because Elizabeth is now gone, Ric no longer has a reason for pulling his punches where Sonny is concerned. Sonny threatens to break Ric in the end and, after daring Sonny to "bring it on," Ric walks out. After Ric is gone, Sam reports Ric's taunts to Sonny and Sonny tells Sam to get ready, because Sonny plans to take Sam out on the town that evening.

Courtney reminds Carly that if Carly wants Alcazar alive, Carly needs to break off her relationship with Alcazar in a way that Lorenzo will believe and so that Lorenzo will realize that he has no choice except to leave Carly alone. Carly asks Courtney to stay to look after the kids and distract anyone looking for Alcazar for good! Carly tries to convince Lorenzo to return to South America and threatens to tell Sonny the truth if Lorenzo insists on sticking around town. But Lorenzo argues that Carly must love Lorenzo, because if Carly no longer loved Lorenzo, she would just turn him over to Sonny to be murdered, without bothering to give Alcazar any kind of chance to escape death. Lorenzo continues to declare that he has no intention of abandoning his love for Carly. Jason suddenly shows up at Carly's place. Although Courtney tries to convince Jason that Carly no longer needs his help, Jason declares that he is not buying Courtney's story and demands to know what is going on with Carly. In the basement, Carly bluntly tells Alcazar that Sonny is the only one Carly will ever love, but Lorenzo continues to disregard Carly's statement. As Carly turns to leave, Lorenzo suddenly lunges at Carly and grabs her arm!

Carly tells Alcazar that she never loved him, only Sonny and tries to get him to agree to stay out of her life before she releases him from the basement. Alcazar stands up and grabs her. He tells her that he doesn't believe that she doesn't care about what happens to him. Jason shows up at Carly's after getting her frantic message. Courtney tries to cover up what Carly is doing in the basement. Jason asks her what she is hiding from him. Courtney lies to him and tells him that Carly doesn't need his help anymore and that she will be fine. Carly comes upstairs and panics when she sees Jason in the living room. She tells him that she doesn't need him anymore and that she is okay now that Courtney was here to talk to. Jason informs her that the assassin had ties with Louis Alcazar, Lorenzo's brother and that proves that Alcazar had that bomb planted in Sonny's limo. Carly tries to change the subject and evade his questions. Jason decides to leave but makes it clear that he knows they are hiding something from him. Carly doesn't know how to handle Alcazar. Courtney tells her that she needs to decide what she wants from Alcazar and if she can let him go or not. Carly tells her she will convince Alcazar that she doesn't love him and make him leave her alone and leave town.
