In a special Fan February episode - As Sonny stands on the Docks, Jason warns Sonny not to stand out in the open. But, as Sonny refuses to take Jason's advice, hidden gunmen open fire and Sonny is shot! As Jason desperately calls 911, Sonny takes off for the Pearly Gates, where Sonny is surprised to find that Luke is the gatekeeper. Luke explains that Scott got in a lucky punch and Luke landed in the Here-After and is currently taking St. Peter's place while Pete takes a vacation. As Luke looks up Sonny's file, Sonny states his presumption that Sonny is headed to some place really hot! Luke announces that, since a lot of people have been interceding for Sonny, Sonny is going to get a chance to go back and make some right decisions and then Sonny could land in heaven, rather than the alternative place. Luke announces that Sonny will be given some tests and, in each instance, Sonny is supposed to do what the other people want!
In the first test, Sonny goes to see Alexis and Alexis hesitantly informs Sonny that Kristina is Sonny's daughter. Alexis tells Sonny that, since Sonny is in a dangerous business, Alexis wants Sonny to keep his distance from his daughter while Kristina is growing up, but Alexis would be willing to arrange periodic visits. Then, Alexis announces, when Kristina is older, and if Sonny wished to do so, Sonny would be allowed to inform Kristina that Sonny is her father. Instead, Sonny blows up and tells Alexis that Sonny demands custody of his daughter. Luke appears and informs Sonny that Sonny has failed his first test. But an unrepentant Sonny declares: "I will burn in hell before I give up my child!" Luke takes Sonny to Sonny's Penthouse and reminds Sonny that he is supposed to do what he is told! Sonny discovers that Jason is now the Mob King Pin and Sonny is Jason's Enforcer. Jason decides to wipe out some of the competition, but Sonny disagrees. As soon as Sonny refuses to take orders from Jason and starts barking out orders instead, Luke again appears and announces that Sonny has just failed his second test.
In the next test, Skye arrives at Sonny's Penthouse and seductively suggests that they get in bed together in order to help Skye get revenge on Jax and on the Quartermaines. While Sonny agrees that Jax did do Skye wrong, Sonny turns down Skye's proposition because Sonny does not trust Skye. When Sonny orders Skye to put her clothes back on and get out of his house, Luke announces that Sonny has just failed another test. In the next test, Carly orders Benny to bump off Taggert, but Sonny tells Carly not to give any orders to Benny. When Jason enters with a report on Taggert, Sonny orders Carly to go to her room while Sonny and Jason talk. When Carly refuses to leave the room, Luke reappears with a reminder and Sonny decides that Carly can stay. Jason announces that Mike Corbin remarried Florence Campbell after Mike left Sonny's mother, Adela. Since Gia is Mike's daughter and Sonny's sister, that makes Taggert Sonny's step-brother. Sonny heads off to take personal care of Taggert but ends up back with Luke. Luke warns Sonny to learn to deal with his new-found relationship with Taggert the same way that Luke learned to deal with the fact that Luke's wife had given birth to a Cassadine! Sonny pulls out his gun when he meets with Taggert on the docks but declares that, while Sonny could shoot Taggert, he is going to try something different. But, then, Taggert informs Sonny that Taggert has always known that Mike Corbin as Gia's father! Sonny angrily threatens to make Taggert wish he was dead and take away everything Taggert loves, including framing Taggert as a dirty cop. Luke suddenly arrives and announces that Sonny was supposed to forgive Taggert, and that Sonny has failed yet another test!
In the next test, the Quartermaines are all assembled at the Quartermaine Mansion for the media circus developing after A.J. wins custody of little Michael. Edward, meanwhile, makes plans to turn the Quartermaine family circus into a reality show. Carly arrives with Michael, flanked by bodyguards, and refuses to tell Michael that A.J. is Michael's father. Carly also refuses to dismiss the bodyguards. Michael spots Sonny and runs to Sonny. A.J. tells Sonny that it is now up to Sonny to inform Michael that A.J. is really Michael's father and has loved Michael all along. In addition, A.J. wants Sonny to confess to Michael that Sonny stole Michael away from Michael's real father - A.J.! Instead, Sonny tells Michael that Sonny never stole Michael away from anyone and that Michael will not have to live with A.J.! Luke shows up again and announces that Sonny just failed another test! Luke points out that Sonny is a hypocrite because Sonny wants to raise Sonny's daughter, Kristina, but Sonny does not want A.J. to be allowed any time with A.J.'s son - Michael! Luke counts off hypocrisy, pride, vanity and wrath as Sonny's downfall!
Luke then takes Sonny back to Sonny's Penthouse. When Sonny goes inside, he finds Carly waiting there for him with Sonny's son. But, when Carly hands the baby to Sonny, Sonny suddenly puts the baby down and rushes out of the apartment. When Sonny walks outside, he lands at Luke's desk again and Luke announces that Sonny made it - Sonny is in heaven with his wife and child. Sonny asks if that means that Carly and the baby are both dead, but Luke explains that 'heaven' is a state of mind and that Sonny can have whatever he needs to be happy including time with his wife and son! Sonny confides to Luke that Sonny is not supposed to be happy but Luke tells Sonny that the mob boss is wrong and offers Sonny a choice - Sonny can go back to earth or stay in heaven. Luke warns Sonny that if Sonny chooses to go back to earth, there would be no guarantee that Sonny would not end up in hell on the next trip! Sonny decides to return to earth and Luke beams Sonny back to the Docks. Before leaving, Luke advises Sonny to pull back on the wrath and pride. Jason arrives again and again warns Sonny that the mob boss should not be standing out in the open on the Docks. This time, Sonny takes Jason's advice and leaves the waterfront before anyone can open fire. When Sonny returns to the Penthouse, he is happy to see Michael and Carly, waiting there for him and is grateful to be alive!
Ric shows up at the penthouse unexpectedly and interrupts an intimate moment between Sonny and Carly. He tells them he came to discuss business with Carly. She is uneasy with his sudden appearance at their home. Sonny leaves them alone to discuss the club. Ric tells Carly that Sonny seemed a little more relaxed with him when he arrived and asked her if was due to her influence. Carly, with a little attitude towards him, tells him that she did what she could to persuade Sonny to give him a chance but that it just made Sonny more distrustful and that she has done what she could but can't do anymore convincing for him. Ric reminds her that he has done plenty for Sonny and Jason to be trusted as his lawyer.
Jason asks Courtney to identify one of Faith Roscoe's men to see if one of them in particular grabbed her the other day. He makes her hide in the corner while he waits for Faith's goon to show up like he usually does that time of day. The man shows up and Courtney identifies him as one of the guys. Jason tells her to leave right now and let him handle things. Courtney doesn't listen and ends up staying around and watching Jason confront the goon. Jason warns the man to stay out of Sonny's business. The goon doesn't listen and provokes Jason by making a remark about if Jason doesn't want Courtney than he'll take her for him instead. Jason hits him in the face and then in the stomach. Courtney rushes out to stop Jason from killing the guy. Taggert and a cop happened to see Jason attacking the guy and go to arrest him. Courtney explains that Jason's not the only one involved and that they don't know the true story about what is going on. When Taggert goes to elaborate, Jason gives her a look to be quiet and Courtney stays quiet while Jason is arrested. Taggert recognizes that the man Jason attacked is one of Faith's men but makes him come in to the station to file charges against Jason. Courtney rushes off to the penthouse where Sonny returned. She tells them what happened. Sonny doesn't like that Courtney interfered and tells her to stay out of it and that she should have let Jason handle things alone. Courtney doesn't like it and ends up talking to Carly about her feelings for Jason. Sonny is reluctant about hiring Ric to act as Jason's lawyer again but Carly convinces him to let her call him in to help. Sonny goes to the station to help get Jason out of jail. Jason gets upset with Sonny for asking him not to protect Courtney all the time and let him handle things. Jason tells him that he did what he asked and dumped Courtney and asks him what more he wants him to do. When Ric shows up, Jason doesn't want him to represent him as his lawyer since he doesn't trust him. Sonny tells him that Ric will do a good job for him and to let him help. Jason isn't too happy about it but agrees. Ric tells Jason that he will have him released in about five minutes after he asks Jason if there was anyone else who witnessed what happened and Jason tells him it was only the two of them fighting when the cops showed up. Ric talks to Faith's goon in the other room and reminds him that Sonny would kill him if he finds out that he actually went after Carly the other night and drugged her.
Jason gets upset with Sonny about what is expected of him after he already gave up Courtney for him. Ric comes out to tell Jason that he is free to go and that he just has to sign a release. Jason doesn't like not knowing what Ric did to get him released. Ric tells Sonny that he made it clear to Faith's goon, Fowler that pressing assault charges against Jason and having Sonny go after him would not be wise since the cops are already breathing down his neck. Sonny surprises Jason by thanking Ric for his help. Jason tells him that he can't trust Ric and that Ric probably threatened him with something they don't know about and is setting something up. Sonny tells him that he has a way of finding out about things no one wants him to know, including what Ric is doing. Jason thinks he is talking about him and asks him what he is trying to get at with him. Sonny tells him that he doesn't need to worry about Ric and tells him he can stay at the police station and be booked if he wants or he can let Ric get him released. Jason reluctantly agrees to go home. Meanwhile, Carly encourages Courtney to speak her mind and tell Sonny how she feels about Jason and what she plans to do to fight for him. Carly tells her she is on both of their sides and wants her to speak her mind. Courtney stays around and waits for Sonny to return home. He returns home with Jason. Courtney comes out of the kitchen and sees Jason. She uses the opportunity to tell them both how she feels and that she is going to fight for Jason and no matter what he does, he can't get rid of her. Sonny listens to her but interrupts her and tells her that Jason and he are trying to keep her safe. Jason listens but doesn't say anything. Courtney leaves. Sonny tells Carly that he listened to her but he doesn't agree with what she said and isn't going to change his mind. Sonny leaves the room. Carly is disgusted with Jason for not going after Courtney. She accuses him of being a hypocrite for not allowing Courtney to make her own decisions about her life after he used to let people make their own decisions like he did after his accident when he told the Quartermaines he was going to live his life on his terms.
Sonny overheard what Carly had said to Jason and accuses her of coming up with the whole idea of having Courtney speak her mind. Carly tells him that Courtney has a right to her own feelings and speaking out is her right. Sonny disagrees with her. Carly tells him he is his own worst enemy and that he will find himself losing his sister and his best friend when this is all said and done. Carly starts to have a dizzy spell and has to sit down. Sonny becomes concerned and stops arguing with her to ask her when she ate last. Carly tells him she had breakfast with him but hasn't had any appetite for food and has been drinking water. Sonny asks her if she has a fever or could have the flu. Carly doesn't think so. Sonny asks her if she could be pregnant. Carly looks at him questionably.
Faith meets with her grandmother at Carly's club. She complains to her grandmother that she wants revenge on Sonny for having her husband killed and then allowing his wife to own the club that once belonged to her grandfather. Faith's grandmother tells her that she doesn't want to see her behind bars like her grandfather and die there like he did and asks her to stop the bitterness and not to get revenge and end up dead herself. Faith realizes that her grandmother isn't going to change her mind about how she feels about mob violence. Faith asks her if she wants a drink. Faith goes up to the bar and orders a sherry for her. While the bartender is getting it out of the storage area, Faith opens the top of one of her rings and empties out some powder that could be poison and pours it into her grandmother's drink. She mixes it and hands it to her grandmother with a bright smile on her face and promises not to have Sonny killed. Her grandmother drinks it and starts to collapse later after Faith leaves the room.
Sonny asked Carly if her dizziness could indicate that she was pregnant. Delighted at first, Carly soon realized that it could be Ric's, and resisted Sonny's offers to take her to the hospital for a pregnancy test. She asked to wait a few days, and they argued about it until they were interrupted by Carly's cell phone. Carly found out that something had happened at the club. Carly and Sonny went there immediately. Carly was devastated to learn that Catherine had died. Sonny approached Faith and expressed suspicion at her apparent lack of surprise and grief.
When Faith asked Sonny if he cried when he saw Lily blown to pieces, Carly broke in and told her to leave. Faith remarked that it was a dangerous place Carly had bought. Back at the penthouse, Sonny and Carly found Ric waiting in the hallway. He said he had heard about Catherine's death and took the liberty of looking into it. Sonny told him to back off and said he would put a tail on Faith. After Sonny went inside, Ric thanked Carly for helping him convince Sonny to let him get Jason out. Carly snapped at Ric that she only did it because he had forced her to. Jason warned Sonny of a hit that had been issued while Carly planned a memorial service for Catherine at The Cellar. Upstairs at Kelley's, Carly told Courtney that she might be pregnant. Ric almost overheard, but Carly managed to divert the conversation. Ric told Courtney that he had scheduled some college interviews for her, but Courtney and Carly both told Ric that Courtney wasn't going anywhere. Later, Courtney arrived at The Cellar to work. Sonny commented on her revealing outfit, but Courtney just brushed his comments aside. Jason arrived and tried to avoid Courtney, who told him that her feelings wouldn't change. Jason told Sonny that the hitman was a mysterious Sam that nobody had ever seen, but that he didn't know who had hired him.
Jason reports to Sonny that a 'hit man' named Sam is reported to be in town, but no one has ever seen the shooter and that Jason has learned that Sam is extremely expensive to hire for a hit. Sonny reminds Jason that Ned wants nothing to do with murder and suggests that Faith may have inherited a bundle from her grandmother. Sonny orders Jason to have Benny check out Faith's inheritance. As Sonny stresses the importance of keeping tight security around his family, Sonny lets slip to Jason that he believes Carly might be pregnant. Faith meets with "Sam" and is shocked that Sam is now asking double her regular rate to whack Sonny. But Samantha argues that she believes that, after Sonny is gone, Sonny's enforcer, Jason Morgan, will probably come after Sam to hunt her down in retaliation and that Sam will probably have to take Jason out as well so Sam wants to be paid in advance for eliminating Jason. Faith assures Sam that she will be able to meet Sam's demands because Faith's grandmother left a large estate.
When Carly arrives at the Speakeasy, she is angry when she finds that Bobbie sent Elizabeth down to borrow some of Carly's glasses for Kelly's. As Carly and Liz argue on the stairs, Carly suddenly becomes dizzy and sits down on the stairs. Carly tries to claim that she just lost her balance, but Liz becomes suspicious of Carly's secretiveness. Upstairs later, Liz suggests that Courtney check on Courtney's New Best Friend Carly, because Carly almost fell down the stairs. Later, when Carly comes upstairs with Courtney, Liz starts to pour some coffee for Mrs. Corinthos, but Carly turns the coffee down and asks for herbal tea instead. Carly confides to Courtney that she believes she IS pregnant and Sonny is also aware of Carly's news. Carly lets Courtney know that Carly suspects something is going on in Sonny's business just now. Carly swears Courtney to secrecy, but, after Carly leaves, Liz asks Courtney point-blank if Carly is pregnant. When Courtney obviously evades the question, Liz tries to learn why Carly would want to keep great baby news a secret. Ric arrives and Liz confides to a very startled Ric that Carly is probably pregnant.
At Carly's Club, Sonny and Carly confirm their good news to Courtney. Sonny gets a call from Benny, who reports that Faith might have inherited enough money from Catherine to go after Sonny without Ned's financial backing. Testing Elizabeth's suspicion about Carly's delicate condition, Ric offers Carly some wine from a new winery Ric wants to purchase some stock from but Carly turns the drink down claiming that she needs her head clear if she is going to deal with numbers. Carly turns around and hands the glass of wine to a customer at the bar who happens to be 'hit woman' Samantha. Samantha has a good opportunity to scope out the Club and Sonny and Carly together. Faith meets with the hit woman and provides her with proof of the money she wired to her account to kill Sonny. The woman "Sam" tells her that she will determine the time and place to kill Sonny not Faith. Faith tells her she paid her a large amount of money to kill Sonny and that she will do it tonight at her grandmother's wake that is being hosted by Carly at her club where Sonny will be most vulnerable.
Jason shows up at Carly's club expecting to see Carly. He sees Courtney there working. He asks her where Carly is and she tells him she will be around soon. Jason runs into Carly coming down the stairs and confronts Carly about setting up this meeting. Carly doesn't deny she set it up and tells him he needs to stop listening to what Sonny wants and do what he wants with his life. Courtney gets tired of listening to them fight as if she isn't in the room. Carly apologizes to her for interfering in her life. Courtney tells her that she appreciates her support. Ric shows up while Sonny is busy on his cell-phone giving orders about increasing security for him, Carly, and Courtney right now. The phone rings. Ric answers it and tells the caller that he is Sonny. It is a call from GH telling him that Carly is definitely pregnant and needs to make an appointment to have her first prenatal exam. Sonny comes in to find that Ric answered his phone. He accuses him of being up to something. Ric denies he has any hidden agenda and just answered the phone, unaware that the hospital would call with such personal news about Carly. Sonny tells him to stop overstepping in his role as his attorney. Ric congratulates Sonny. Carly comes home to change for Katherine's wake. Ric looks at her strangely and then leaves. Carly asks Sonny why he looked at her stomach like that. Sonny tells her that Ric found out she was pregnant when he answered a phone call from GH. Carly overreacts and Sonny asks her what is wrong with Ric knowing since he already promised him he wouldn't tell anyone. Carly tells him that her hormones are the cause for her overreaction. She goes upstairs.
Jason comes over to see Sonny. Sonny starts to tell him that he needs to find out who is putting a hit on him and soon. Jason tells him that he can't do this anymore. He explains that he just ran into Courtney and that he still loves her and can't hurt her anymore. Sonny doesn't like what Jason is trying to say. He tells him that he did it to protect Courtney and Jason needs to leave it be. Jason tells Sonny that he tried to stop seeing Courtney but he can't do that anymore. He suggests to Sonny that he can protect Courtney as well as him. Sonny disagrees with him and insists that Courtney is not safe as long as she is with him. Jason disagrees. Sonny makes him choose between Courtney and his job. Jason chooses to go back to Courtney. Sonny tells him he is fired. Jason tries to get him to listen to reason and convince him to allow him to keep him safe right now with a hit out on him. Sonny refuses to allow Jason to protect him and kicks him out of the penthouse.
Carly gets upset when Ric informs her that they had unprotected sex that night but if she insists Sonny is her baby's father, he'll go along with it. Carly is stunned by this revelation and accuses him of lying to her. Ric tells her that he tried to go to the drug store to get some condoms, but she was very forceful that night and wouldn't let him. Carly tells him that he just has to ask A.J. about what happened when he tried to claim being the father of her other child, and threatens him that if Sonny ever finds out about that night she doesn't remember, she will kill him herself. Carly goes to her club to make sure everything is all set for Katherine's memorial. She bars A.J. from coming inside and Max escorts him outside. She sees Faith show up with Ned and asks her to leave. Ned and Faith persuade her to allow them to stay since Katherine is Faith's grandmother. "Sam" shows up at the club. Carly tells her that she can stay but she has to go through security and be checked for weapons first. "Sam" smiles and agrees to be checked. Later, "Sam" goes into the bathroom after Scott tries to pick her up. Jax also is there and tells Carly he is there to celebrate his new bachelorhood. He has a run-in with Sonny and he tells him some cryptic message about wise men. "Sam" goes into the bathroom and retrieves the hidden weapons she installed in the bathroom fixtures. Sonny is very agitated and threatens to fire Benny when he questions Sonny's timing for firing Jason when they need all the protection they can get. Sonny doesn't tell Carly why Jason isn't around when she presses him. Carly makes a toast to Katherine and tells her guests that Katherine is the one responsible for getting this club started. Carly sees Liz show up all dressed up and talking to Ric. She tells Liz to get lost and that she wasn't invited. Ric doesn't defend Liz, which upsets her. Carly tells her that Ric isn't going to defend her since he works for her and she is the boss. Carly walks off. "Sam" the hit woman starts shooting while everyone is dancing. She shoots some of the bottles behind the bar first and then starts shooting into the crowd. Ric blocks Sonny and Carly from the line of fire and tells them to get down on the floor.
As Rick collapsed to the floor, Sonny rushed Carly out of the room. Concerned for her and the baby's health, he insisted that Carly go to the hospital and be examined. Taggert interrupted them and asked Sonny who was after him. Carly and Sonny avoided Taggert's questions and left for the hospital. Sonny told Benny to find out who had done this. After Sonny left, Benny called Jason and told him what had happened. Upstairs at Kelley's, Elizabeth and Lucky heard the commotion and ran down to the Cellar, passing Sam on the stairs. When Elizabeth realized that Ric had been shot she ran to his side and called for a doctor. The doctor tended to Ric while they waited for an ambulance. Elizabeth was stunned at Sonny's apparent indifference. Jason sent Courtney to the Grill, where she would be surrounded by people, to wait for a guard to take her to a safe place. Jason went to the Cellar, where he searched the premises and found tape in the women's restroom where Sam had hidden her weapon. Jason overheard Lucky telling Taggert that the only person he had seen was a woman running up the stairs on his way down. Pulling Lucky aside, Jason confided that the shooter could be a woman and asked Lucky for more details. Lucky told him that he had seen a young, African-American woman race up the stairs.
At the hospital, Sonny and Carly were relieved to hear that their baby was unharmed. Sonny continued to fuss over Carly until Elizabeth walked up. Elizabeth blamed Sonny for Ric getting shot then walked off. Elizabeth went to Rics room where Bobbi allowed a short visit. Carly arrived and told Elizabeth that she needed to speak to Ric alone. Ric told Carly she would have been better off if he had died since the baby might be his. Out in the hallway, Elizabeth again told Sonny that he was responsible for Ric's injury. Sonny asked Elizabeth why she was suddenly so angry toward him, and she said that she finally realized that nobody near him is safe. Sonny went into Rick's room. He told Rick to take care of himself but showed no gratitude or concern. Back in the lobby, Carly expresses her relief that Jason had not been at the Cellar. Sonny told Carly that he fired Jason. Although Carly insisted that was a huge mistake, Sonny refused to let Jason continue his work since he couldn't stay away from Courtney as he had asked. Ned pulled Faith aside and demanded to know where she got the money to set up the hit on Sonny. Faith denied it, but Ned was not convinced. He told her that he was not interested in violence and ended their partnership. Ned called Jax and told him to stop any financial attacks against Sonny that were in the works lest they tied to the hit against Sonny. Edward overheard Ned and Faith's interaction and realized that his money had paid for the hit. Faith met up with Sam at the Grill's bar and was surprisingly calm despite the failed hit. Sam told her that she knew a crowded bar was no place for a hit, and that it would have been successful had she been permitted to do it her way. Faith paid her the money regardless, and ordered Sam a glass of wine. After drinking the wine, Sam collapsed on the floor. Courtney, sitting nearby, ran to her aide. Jason walked in and pulled Courtney in the next room, grabbing Sam's purse. Courtney asked what he was doing, and Jason pulled a gun out of Sam's purse. He told Courtney that Sam was the shooter.
At the Cellar, Sonny told Carly that he had arranged for Leticia to take Michael to the island and that he wanted Carly to go with them. Carly said she would only go if he went with her, that she needed him by her side during the pregnancy. She refused to go when Sonny said it was impossible for him to go with them. Jason went to the Cellar to tell Sonny that Faith had hired the shooter. Sonny asked Jason if he was still with Courtney. When Jason replied that he was, Sonny reminded him that he no longer worked for him. Jason refused to leave Sonny unprotected, but Sonny told him that he had taught him everything he knew and had survived before Jason came around. Jason insisted that he was not being disloyal by loving Courtney and that he could keep them all safe, but Sonny became more angry and told him to leave.
Courtney went to the hospital and, seeing Ric through the window of his room, became emotional thinking it could have been Jason. Carly arrived and told Courtney that she couldn't think that way and live full of fear. Carly told her about how she had turned Sonny into the FBI trying to get him out of the business. Courtney was surprised to hear that Sonny had been able to forgive such a thing. Carly walked into Ric's hospital room, and though Elizabeth wanted her to leave so as not to upset Ric, he asked Elizabeth to give them a few moments alone. Carly asked Ric what he expected in return just for crossing the room at the wrong time and getting shot. Ric said he only wanted what he was due. Faith entered her suite and found Sonny sitting at her table. He told her to sit. Though she denied any tie to the shooting, he coldly told her that she had been sloppy using the same method to kill both her grandmother and the shooter and then offered her a glass of sherry.
In Faith's Hotel Room, without wearing gloves, Sonny holds the glass of sherry out to Faith and demands that she drink it but Faith refuses. As Sonny warns Faith that she can go easy or go hard, but she will be going, Faith protests that she is too small-time to be the one who ordered a hit on Sonny. Sonny warns Faith not to tell herself that Sonny would not murder a woman! Sonny informs Faith that, while Faith missed Sonny will not miss! As Sonny tells Faith that she IS going to die, Benny arrives and intervenes. Sonny informs Benny that Benny can say anything in front of Faith, because she is going to die any way. Benny tries to inform Sonny that Benny found out that the payoff to the hit woman came from Miami. As Faith continues to tell Sonny that Sonny is about to kill the wrong person, Sonny reminds Faith that Sonny will not get his hands dirty but will see to it that Faith is removed! Jason receives a desperate call from Benny, who announces that he needs to meet with Jason immediately at Kelly's, because Sonny is out of control!
Carly declares that Ric was not being heroic when he was shot just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. But Ric accuses Carly of wanting him to leave and take the knowledge of their night together with him. Carly warns Ric that he needs to be worried about how far Carly would be willing to go to protect her husband! Ric protests that he is truly Carly's friend and just wants what is best for her, but Carly refuses to believe Ric. Ric admits that all Ric wants is access to Sonny's money and power so that Ric can make all of them very rich! But, when Ric argues that he could be a valuable asset to Sonny as his attorney, Carly refuses to listen. In spite of Carly's warnings, Ric remains convinced that being shot has proven his loyalty to Sonny.
Benny reports to Jason that Sonny went after Faith in the mob-widow's own hotel room and Sonny's visit to Faith would be recorded on surveillance cameras all over the hotel. Benny warns Jason that Sonny's judgment is very bad right now and that Sonny is taking a lot of reckless chances and will not listen to anybody. Jason promises Benny that Jason will try to keep Sonny safe while keeping his distance, but there is nothing that Jason can do now to get through to Sonny. Explaining that Sonny will not even talk to Jason, Jason instructs Benny not to bring anything to Sonny except absolutely necessary business. Jason informs Benny that Faith probably was behind the shooting, but it would be a disaster if Sonny tried to go after Faith on his own! Jason tells Benny that Benny can call Jason if Benny notices Sonny taking any more risks especially where Faith is concerned! When Sonny arrives at the Hospital, Bobbie reminds Sonny to be careful where Carly is concerned. When Sonny visits Ric's Hospital Room, Ric expresses his opinion that being shot for Sonny proves Ric's loyalty, but Sonny merely offers Ric a check or cash to compensate Ric for the inconvenience of his bullet wound. Meanwhile, Carly stops by to visit Bobbie and discovers that Sonny is visiting Ric. Ric informs Sonny that he did not jump in front of a bullet for money. Sonny insists that Ric just got in the way of the bullet by accident. Ric observes that he apparently has not passed Sonny's test for loyalty yet and suggests that, instead of writing a check or giving him money, Sonny could just put Ric on retainer as Sonny's attorney. But Sonny only declares that he will think about it. After Sonny leaves, Carly slips in to see Ric and finds Ric unhooking himself from all of his tubes. Ric angrily declares to Carly that, obviously, nothing Ric could ever do would ever be good enough to earn Sonny's trust. Carly is stunned when Ric asks her what it would take to earn Sonny's respect!
Later, at the Penthouse, Carly asks Sonny if Sonny still believes that Ric is working some kind of agenda and Sonny expresses his opinion that Ric is spinning the whole shooting to his advantage. But Sonny admits that Ric is a smart lawyer and that Sonny might be able to use some of Ric's expertise. However, as Sonny appears to be moving closer toward trusting Ric, Carly points out that Ric is, after all, only an attorney. Courtney pleads with Sonny to get Jason back to handle the increased security threat but Sonny refuses to even consider the idea. Ric enters Faith's room and holds the mob-widow at gunpoint. Ric tells Faith that Ric believes that Faith IS the one responsible for Ric being shot the previous evening. Ric then tells Faith that he can either kill her in retaliation or use the situation to his advantage. Faith is stunned when Ric suggests that Faith needs a partner and Ric might be interested. Faith is even more shocked when she realizes that Ric wants Sonny dead as well. But Ric replies: "Killing Sonny would be too easy! I want him destroyed!"
Carly argues with Sonny about firing Jason when he needs him the most right now. Benny comes by and tells Sonny that the five families have requested a meeting with him. Ric tells Faith that Sonny fired Jason and that it is the perfect time to go after him. Faith isn't sure whether to believe him. Ric tells her that killing Sonny would be too easy and that he wants to destroy him instead. Ric tells her he plans to get inside Sonny's organization by gaining his trust and taking advantage of Jason's absence. Ric shows up at Sonny's penthouse just as Sonny is ordering an ambivalent Benny to go to the meeting to represent him in his place. Benny doesn't want to go but Sonny gets upset and orders him to obey his orders or he is fired. Ric offers to go with Benny to the meeting since he is a lawyer and is more of an expert on negotiations. Sonny ignores Ric and tells Benny to go. He tells Ric to go and do his work with Carly and her club. Sonny leaves the room. Carly tells Ric that Sonny doesn't trust him and to leave it alone. Ric tells her that she needs to convince him otherwise and sort of threatens to tell Sonny about their night together. Carly tells him to stop playing games with him and that she will do anything to protect Sonny. Ric informs her that Sonny sent Benny to go to the meeting of the five families alone. Carly really becomes concerned for Sonny and the bad decisions he has been making.
Carly interrupts Jason and Courtney by banging on the door. Jason answers the door. Carly apologizes for barging in but tells Jason that Sonny sent Benny alone to the meeting of the five families. Jason becomes very concerned since under more normal circumstances he would be going to the meeting to represent Sonny. He calls Sonny and tells him that Carly told him that he sent Benny alone to the meeting. He tells him he is going to go to the meeting for him instead. Sonny tells him he can as long as he is no longer with Courtney and plans to break it off again. Jason tells him he can't do that but still wants to help Sonny. Sonny refuses his help. Sonny asks to speak with Carly. He tells her to get home now. When she gets there he accuses her of interfering in his business after she promised him she wouldn't do that again and that she went behind his back anyway. Carly tells him she did it because she is concerned about him and the bad decisions he is making by firing Jason and sending Benny alone.
Benny shows up with one of Sonny's bodyguards. The five families aren't happy about this since Sonny is who they expected to see. Faith shows up and starts to come on to Benny and berate him. She tells him that the five families are going to retire Sonny and take over all his territories. Benny tries to keep a cool head but starts to sweat profusely and appears weak. He tells the families that Sonny has no plans to retire his business and give him his territories and that if they want to meet with him they need to set up another meeting. As he walks away, he starts to have chest pains and collapses to the ground. Sonny's bodyguard warns Faith to back off. The five families aren't happy with her and warn her not to antagonize Sonny like that again. Sonny's goon calls 911 and leaves Benny on the floor. Jason finds him and tries to comfort him. Benny tells him that Sonny is in trouble and needs his help. Benny dies in his arms just as Sonny shows up. Jason angrily tells Sonny that he shouldn't have sent him alone and he is to blame. Sonny is speechless.
Sonny and Jason deal with the death of Benny. Jason questions Sonny as to why he sent Benny to the meeting alone. Sonny doesn't have a reasonable answer. Jason suggests they work together before something else happens. An angry Sonny lashes out at Jason and suggests maybe next time it could be Carly or Courtney that dies. Taggert shows up at the warehouse. He questions them about Benny's death and how suspicious it looks since not only did Faith's grandmother just die but the hit woman that was hired to kill Sonny. Sonny insists that Benny had a heart condition and died from natural causes. Taggert tells them they can answer his questions there or go to the station and answer them. He tells them that Faith went to Scott and asked for police protection claiming that Sonny threatened her life. Sonny refuses to answer any more questions from him. Ric shows up and overhears the conversation. He had just come from meeting with Faith about how they could destroy Sonny by taking advantage of Benny's death and the estrangement between Jason and Sonny. He plays lawyer and asks Taggert if he has an arrest warrant for Sonny or Jason. Taggert tells him he is only questioning them not arresting them. Taggert leaves when he realizes they aren't going to tell him more.
Carly tells Courtney that Ric is not to be trusted and that Sonny doesn't trust him totally either. Courtney notices a change in her attitude towards Ric. She asks her why. Carly decides to confide in her and tells her that Ric has something on her and is blackmailing her into persuading Sonny to hire him to work for his organization. Carly tells her that she slept with Ric the night that she found Sonny kissing Brenda on the docks and how she only had a couple of drinks and woke up in a motel with Ric in bed with her and how she doesn't remember anything. Courtney asks her if she is afraid that Ric could be the father of her baby. Carly tells her she doesn't try to think about that night or that possibility. Sonny's bodyguard, Max shows up to tell them that he has to head to the warehouse and that something happened and Jason and Sonny are there. They go with him. When they get there, Sonny and Jason tell them that Benny is dead. Ric tries to suck up to Sonny but no one is impressed. Ric leaves them alone to talk.
Sonny blames Jason for Benny's death since he wasn't around to go to the meeting like he would have if he had followed his orders. Courtney steps in and defends Jason. Sonny tells her that he is doing this to protect her life. Courtney reminds him that she is a big girl and can take care of herself. He turns on her and blames her for Benny's death also since she couldn't accept Jason's decision and started going after him until he caved in and took her back. Jason yells at Sonny and tells him to leave her alone and not talk to her like that. Jason explains that he still wants to protect him and help him. Sonny accuses him of being disloyal and not knowing the meaning of the word loyal. Jason approaches Sonny with a hurt and angry look. Carly tried to interrupt Sonny and Jason's argument, but neither would back down. Back at the penthouse, Carly told Sonny she would not berate him for his actions because he was already hard enough on himself.
Carly and Sonny told Michael that Benny was sick and had died. Michael asked if Jason had also died because he had not come to visit in some time. Carly and Sonny reassured him that Jason was fine before leaving for the memorial service. At the service, Sonny promised Benny's widow financial support, but she said that Jason had already taken care of it. Sonny told Jason that he would pay for half of it. When Sonny told Jason that Benny would not have wanted them at an impasse, Jason reminded him that it didn't have to be that way. Unchanged in his position, Sonny asked Jason to come by and visit Michael and told him that he would not be around when he came.
When Greg arrives at the Penthouse to see Sonny, Carly asks about the business and Greg confides that some people are beginning to question Sonny's ability to stay on top of the business. But Sonny overhears and blasts Greg for talking to Carly about the business. Sonny asks Carly to take a walk with Marco and, when Carly leaves, Sonny demands to know who is making noises about Sonny's grasp on the business and then Sonny orders Greg to make a list of everyone who has been bad-mouthing Sonny. Ric arrives at the Penthouse, Sonny announces that he called a meeting of the Five Families and Ric offers to help any way he can, including representing Sonny at the meeting. But Sonny stuns Ric when Sonny announces that Sonny plans to represent himself at the meeting. Sonny does tell Ric that if the meeting is raided by the police, Sonny will need Ric's legal expertise to spring him.
Carly asks for Courtney's help in defusing Ric, but Courtney urges Carly to take away Ric's power by telling Sonny the truth. Carly tearfully confides that she believes Sonny would divorce her if he knew about Carly's liaison with Ric. When Carly returns to the Penthouse, she finds Ric and Sonny talking and declares that she has something she wants to get out in the open. But Sonny brushes Carly off to rush off to the meeting. After Sonny leaves, Ric confides to Carly that Sonny is meeting with the Five Families. Then Ric blasts Carly for failing to convince Sonny to send Ric to the meeting. Carly assures Ric that he should be happy to see Sonny leave because if Sonny had stayed, Ric would be a dead man!
Faith is shocked when Sonny shows up alone to represent himself at the meeting of the Five Families and Sonny questions why Faith would be allowed to attend the meeting. Faith suggests that Jason walked away from Sonny with inside information on all of their businesses which ought to be a concern to all of them. Sonny suddenly grabs Faith, twisting her arm behind her back, Sonny kisses Faith and then tells everyone that Faith is nothing more than a cheap whore. But Faith argues that she has as much right at the meeting as anyone else. Sonny finally shoves a protesting Faith out the door. When Faith is gone, Sonny declares that he is in full control of his businesses and the other family heads agree that Sonny does appear to be in control. After the rest of the Five Families leave, Faith returns for a secret meeting with Sammy and warns her fellow mobster that the Five Families have fallen for a bluff being run by Sonny! Faith argues that Sonny has lost his two top key men and can still be defeated. Sammy counters that Faith is nothing but invites Faith to come keep him company some time. However, Faith orders Sammy to go to hell! After Sammy leaves, Faith vows to teach them all a lesson!
At the Penthouse, Carly is angry when she realizes that Ric is still there, but Ric protests that Sonny asked him to stick around in case Sonny gets arrested during his meeting with the Five Families plus, of course, Ric was curious about Carly's death threat. Carly informs Ric that she plans to come clean with Sonny about their night together. When Ric cautions Carly against baring all to Sonny, Carly tells Ric that Sonny will kill Ric when Sonny finds out the truth about their night together. When Ric accuses Carly of bluffing, Carly informs Ric that the only reason that Carly is not plotting to kill Ric herself is because she believes that Sonny would do the job cleaner! Ric tells Carly that he will leave town and return to Manhattan if Carly promises not to tell Sonny anything. Carly informs Ric that she will wait until Sonny gets home, but, if Sonny does not announce to Carly that Ric has left town, Carly will tell Sonny everything! Carly leaves for the Club but Ric stays behind in the Penthouse. Later, Carly visits Courtney at Kelly's and confides to Courtney that Ric promised to leave town, so Carly has decided against telling Sonny the truth! But Courtney continues to advise Carly to tell Sonny the truth. When Sonny returns to the Penthouse, he finds Ric staring at a drink Sonny started, then forgot about. Sonny accuses Ric of making himself at home in Sonny's home. As Ric tries to quit, Sonny slowly pulls a gun out of his desk and stuns Ric when Sonny hands the gun to Ric and orders the lawyer to kill Faith for Sonny but Ric refused. Sonny was angered, but nonetheless asked Ric to be on retainer as his attorney. Rick said he'd think about it, but when Sonny demanded an answer on the spot Ric accepted. Courtney advised Carly to tell Sonny the truth about Ric, even though it would hurt him. Carly went home and started to tell him, but when Sonny told her how much he worries about the baby, she could not bring herself to do it. Later at Kelley's, Carly ran into Rick. He begged her to spare his life and not tell Sonny that they had slept together.
Sonny went to Courtney's apartment and asked her to give up Jason. He told her that the safety of Carly and the baby depended on Courtney freeing Jason so that he could return to war protecting Sonny. Courtney refused to give in to Sonny's guilt trip about her endangering everyone by holding on to Jason. She told him that he, not her, was keeping Jason from doing his job. Jason walked in and asked Sonny what he was doing there. Sonny told him that he was asking Courtney to walk away so that Jason could do his job. Jason reminded Sonny that he had no problem working for Sonny, but that he was not going to give up Courtney to do so. Carly arrived and surprisingly did not criticize Sonny for his verbal assault on Courtney. Sonny told Carly that it was not safe for her and the baby to be around Jason, that Jason was a target whether he was working for Sonny or not. When Carly realized how upset Sonny was, she told him he was right about not being safe there and convinced him to leave with her. Back at the penthouse, Carly told Sonny that she was worried about him not eating enough and not getting enough rest. Sonny fell asleep on the sofa and had a nightmare about Carly falling down the stairs. Jason met on of Sonny's men on the docks and was concerned to hear that people both inside and outside the organization were beginning to doubt Sonny. Jason told him that Sonny was in control and to call Jason right away if anything happened. Back at their apartment, Jason's phone rang. It was Faith calling from a room across the street with Ric and a gunman. She told Jason he must help her take over Sonny's organization or she would order the sniper aimed at Courtney to fire. Jason threw Courtney to the ground just as the first shots broke through the window. Jason warns Faith that she is done! Faith tells Jason that she wants to work with him and the shot was just to get Jason's attention. After the sniper leaves, Ric warns Faith that she just cut her own throat and urges Faith to learn a little patience if she wants to exact some serious vengeance where Sonny is concerned. Faith smugly announces that she believes that, no matter which way Sonny jumps, the shooting will merely serve to solidify the estrangement between Jason and Sonny, now that Jason has been the reason for Sonny's sister to be in danger! However, Ric warns Faith that she is on her own if she ends up in trouble because of this caper.
At his Penthouse, Sonny wakes from a nightmare of Carly falling downstairs and later confides to Carly that he believes something bad is about to happen to someone close to him. Carly tries to calm Sonny's fears and reassures him that Carly and her baby are fine. Jason takes Courtney back to the security of the penthouse, Sonny spots them moving back. Jason and Sonny begin to compare notes, speculating about Faith's silent partner. But when Sonny points out that this incident just proves Sonny's point and Jason would give up his relationship with Courtney if Jason were sincere in Jason's concerns for Courtney's safety! While Sonny and Jason talk, Courtney slips across the hall and complains to Carly about Sonny's interference in her life. While Carly and Courtney talk, Ric arrives with some contracts for Sonny and learns from Courtney that someone took a shot at her. When Sonny returns to his Penthouse, Ric asks about Sonny's interview with Jason but gets no answers. However, when Ric leaves, Ric learns from Marco that Sonny is as mad as ever at Jason.
Carly comes down the stairs and overhears Sonny ranting on the phone to one of his men. He starts to become more irrational about his business and his employees competence. He tells Carly to stay home and rest and that he has to go out and take care of something and talk to Ric at the club. Carly feels he is getting worse and goes across the hall to talk to Jason and get his help. She finds him talking to one of Sonny's men. Jason reassures her he is doing everything he can to help Sonny without his knowledge. Carly fills him in on Sonny's increasingly erratic behavior lately. She almost tells him about the baby possibly being Ric's when he gets a phone call that interrupts them. Sonny sees one of his bodyguards standing outside of Kelly's. He asks him what he is doing there since he has been looking for him everywhere. Max tells Sonny that Jason asked him to watch over Courtney while she works at Kelly's. Sonny gets upset and goes into Kelly's. He embarrasses Courtney by grabbing her arm while she is asking a customer's order to ask her what she is doing working at Kelly's after she has been shot at. Courtney tells him she has no plans to hide in fear because of his business. This makes him more angry and he tells her she has to go back to the penthouse where she will be safe. Courtney refuses to leave with Max and tells him she has a job to do and if he doesn't leave her alone, se will call the police on him. Sonny really blows his cool and star want to mess with and how his little sister isn't afraid of him and talks back to him like this. He tells her he has had it with her and storms off. When he gets to the club, Ric tries to talk to him about business. Sonny isn't interested and tells him to shut up and leave him alone.
Jax shows up at Carly's club and starts to harass Sonny. Sonny trades insults with him. However, Jax hits a nerve when he asks him where his lap boy, Jason is, to stop him from going near him. Sonny breaks a wine bottle and takes the sharp end and hold it near Jax's throat, and threatens to stab him with it. One of Sonny's men calls Jason. Carly answers the phone and tells Jason what is going on. They take off for the club to stop Sonny. By then, Sonny has had too much to drink and is talking crazy. Jason pulls Sonny off of Jax. He tells Jax to leave Sonny alone and go. Sonny tells Jason to leave him alone and accuses him of betraying him by trying to take over his business and turn his people against him. Jason is hurt by Sonny's words but listens. Sonny tries to throw a punch at Jason but Carly steps in and stops and reminds them they need to stop fighting and act like a family. Faith witnesses Sonny's tirade against Jason. Carly gets Sonny to leave The Cellar with her and takes him home. Sonny admits to Carly that he is afraid he will never be able to put his life back together. Sonny also fears not being able to protect Carly and their unborn baby. Carly voices her confidence in Sonny while declaring her love for him. A desperate Alexis goes to Sonny with the intention of telling him he is Kristina's father. Sonny coldly berates Alexis, who decides to never tell Sonny the truth about Kristina.
Sonny awoke suddenly after dreaming that Faith had pushed Carly down the stairs. Carly reassured him that she and the baby were fine. There was a knock on the door. Carly tried to send the person away, but when Sonny saw it was Ric he insisted on speaking with him. Without asking Carly to leave, Sonny ordered Ric to find out who Faith's silent parent was. Concerned by his carelessness and misplaced trust, Carly went across the hall to speak with Jason. Sonny returned and thinking about uncovering Faith's financial backer, suddenly left, ordering his bodyguard to stay behind. Ric left soon after. Carly returned and, learning that Sonny had left alone, ordered his men to find him. Sonny met Ned on the docks. He threatened Ned's life unless Ned were to tell him who was financing Faith's plan. Ned told him he had no idea and wouldn't tell him even if he did. When Ned accused Sonny of being helpless to protect his family, Sonny lost his temper and beat Ned brutally. Taggert ran up and ordered Sonny at gunpoint to stop. Taggert arrested Sonny after Ned agreed to press charges. Scott called Carly and told her that Sonny was in big trouble.
Carly burst in and begged Jason and Courtney to help her in a plan to help Sonny. Jason refused, telling Carly that her plans always end disastrously, but Carly insisted that Sonny was mishandling business and trusting Ric to help with the Faith situation. Reluctantly, Jason agreed to participate. Carly told Courtney that she would be involved, too.
Courtney and Jason burst through the door of Kelly's, staging a break up fight. Faith, Ric, and Elizabeth all observed while Courtney and Jason yelled at each other. Courtney told Jason that she had been wrong about him and never wanted to see him again. Jason kicked a table before storming out. Ric returned to the penthouse and told Carly about Jason and Courtney's "fight." Meanwhile, Faith followed Jason back to the loft. She entered and found him smashing things with a bat. Faith pressed Jason to join forces in taking down Sonny. Jason told her he would.
Carly told Ric that Sonny had been arrested and agreed to meet him at the police station shortly. Ric left, and Carly left Jason a message that Sonny did not know about their plan. At the police station, Taggert taunted Sonny about losing his cool. Ned agreed to press charges. Scott ordered Taggert to put a handcuffed Sonny alone in the interrogation room. Ric arrived and requested to see Sonny, but Taggert stalled him. Ric went to speak to Ned instead. Carly stormed in and demanded to be let into the interrogation room to see Sonny. Taggert grabbed her by the arm to stop her. An enraged Sonny ordered Taggert to never touch Carly again. Amidst all the shouting, Ric appeared at the door and told Taggert to release Sonny, that Ned was dropping the charges. Ned confirmed it, conceded that because he had attacked Sonny a while back, it would not be difficult for Ric to make it look as if Ned had provoked him again. Ned feared that involvement in an assault case might jeopardize his chances of regaining custody of Kristina. Disgusted, Taggert unruffled Sonny and set him free. Sonny got a call from Jason telling him to meet him on the docks. Sonny left before Carly had a chance to tell him about the plan.
Looking for Sonny, Carly ran into Courtney and Michael at the park. Carly told Courtney that however difficult Sonny could be, that he was even harder on himself. She promised Courtney that in time Courtney would see a different side of Sonny. Michael walked out onto the frozen pond and the ice began to crack. Carly went to him and walked him to safety but fell in herself just before making it to dry ground. Letitia and Courtney frantically manage to pull Carly out of the icy water.
Jason pressed Faith to tell him who her silent partner was. Faith told Jason to prove their new alliance by killing Sonny, promising that she would arrange a meeting with her partner and Jason. Jason met Sonny at the docks. Sonny was shocked and angry to see Faith there, too. Jason pulled a gun on Sonny, and they argued for some time. When Faith impatiently pulled out a gun to shoot Sonny herself, Jason turned the gun on her and demanded the name of her partner. Ric approached and shot Faith from the alley. Jason ran off in search of the shooter while Sonny asked a wounded Faith to tell him who had shot her. Sonny and Jason realize that Faith's silent partner had to be the one who tried to kill her. Faith is taken to the hospital. Sonny and Jason go to the hospital where they find Courtney and she explains what happened to Carly. Monica and Allen are in the ER with Carly where she is diagnosed with dangerously high blood pressure. Sonny rushes in upset and tries to get to Carly. He almost fights with Allen who attempts to calm him down. Ric shows up and wants to do anything he can to help Sonny, but Sonny just pushes him away. Monica tells Sonny he will have to make the decision to give Carly the medication she needs in order to lower her blood pressure. She tells him the Carly is at risk of stroke, brain damage or death. However, the medication will kill their baby. Ric sneaks into Faith's room and reminds her that "bad things happen to people in hospitals". Faith looks very nervous and scared. Before Ric can turn off Faith's IV, Jason comes into the room.
Monica tells Sonny that they need a quick decision on whether or not to give Carly the blood pressure medication that might endanger the baby's life. Sonny wrestles with his decision and begs Carly to wake up to help him make the decision. But, when there is still no response from Carly, Sonny reluctantly gives Monica the go-ahead. Tony finds Sonny and Jason with Faith and orders them to stay away from his patient. Jason heads to the E.R., where he assures Sonny of his support. Before Monica can give the drug to Carly, Carly regains consciousness and Monica notices that Carly's blood pressure begins to drop as soon as Sonny assures Carly that he is nearby. Monica declares that they no longer need the drug for Carly. But, when Bobbie arrives to see Carly, Monica informs Carly and Sonny that a new problem has developed Carly is suffering from internal bleeding. Carly suddenly begins to cramp and Sonny goes to the chapel to pray for another miracle. Later, when Faith is wheeled out of surgery, Jason is waiting for her, demanding to know the name of Faith's partner. But Faith sees Ric hovering outside the recovery room and tells Jason that there never was a partner. When Ric later asks if Jason believes Faith, Jason replies: "No!"
Jason pays Carly and Sonny a visit. Sonny was being overprotective of her and the baby and insisted on getting her some more juice. Jason talks to Carly and assures her he is helping Sonny out. Later, Jason and Sonny talk in the waiting area. Sonny asks Jason to come back and work for him and that he plans to take Carly away to the island if the baby doesn't make it or maybe take her away until the baby arrives. Jason tells him he will come back and work for him. Ric shows up at GH. and overhears them talking. He tells Sonny that he has some business things to discuss with him and asks him how Carly is and if the baby is o.k. Sonny informs Ric that any business concerns can be brought to Jason's attention right now and that Jason is working for him again. Sonny leaves them alone to talk.
Sonny and Carly have an ultrasound. Her OBGYN tells them that the baby looks healthy and that they will expect the baby in November. He asks her if she knows the sex. Carly is convinced it is a boy. Sonny also told Jason that Carly wanted to name the baby Morgan Corinthos after him.
Courtney visits Carly. Carly thanks her for saving her life and the baby's life like she did. Courtney tells her that no thanks are needed and that she is thankful herself that Carly and the baby are fine now. Courtney tells her that Sonny asked Jason to come back and work for him but hasn't really approved of her being with Jason still. Carly is happy by this news and tells Courtney that she needs to give Sonny time to adjust to them as a couple and he will eventually accept them and even be thankful to her for making Jason so happy. Courtney doesn't expect that to happy anytime soon but realizes it will take time with Sonny. Sonny voices his displeasure that Jason is still with Courtney but doesn't tell him he can't be with her but that he needs to know that if anything happens to Courtney it will be on his head. Jason tells him he can handle taking care of Courtney and the family for him as well. Sonny isn't so sure he can but he gives him the chance to prove it some day.
Sonny and Jason go to Carly's room. Sonny thanks Courtney for saving Carly and their baby's life. He also tells her that he won't stop her from being with Jason, even if he prefer that she go away to college at his expense. She tells him she wants to be with Jason. Sonny and Carly discuss the baby. As Sonny is hugging Carly, he sees Faith looking into Carly's room through the window in her door. He pays Faith a visit at her room and warns her to stay away from Carly's room and that she should be careful since she won't be living very long if he has his way. Sonny fussed over Carly. Carly assured Sonny that their baby was strong like them and could survive anything. Sonny could not let go of his anxiety about the baby's safety but promised to try. Carly went to visit Courtney. Courtney vowed to show Jason and Sonny that they weren't the vulnerable damsels in distress they treated them as. Ric tried to offer Sonny his assistance with Faith, but Sonny coldly told him that he and Jason were working on it alone. Frustrated, Ric went to the hospital and told Faith he would have to give Sonny a phony tip to set him searching in the wrong direction. Ric returned to Sonny's penthouse and told him that he had uncovered Jax as Faith's silent partner.
Courtney and Jason were playfully kissing on the sofa when Sonny burst in without knocking and ordered Jason across the hall. Courtney was furious at his rudeness but understood when Jason had to go. Jason encountered Ric at Sonny's. Sonny explained that Ric had found a paper trail to Faith's partner. Jason refused to discuss business in front of Ric, so Sonny ordered Ric to wait out in the hall to appease Jason. Sonny ordered Jason to take care of Jax, but Jason expressed doubt that Ric was correct in accusing Jax. Sonny because angry and asked Jason if he would take care of it or not. Jason agreed. Jason intercepted Jax on the docks and warned him to confess to funding Faith or face death. Jax convinced Jason that it wasn't him, saying that when he came after Sonny he wouldn't hide behind someone else. Jason was convinced it wasn't Jax and began to consider who else would benefit from Faith's involvement. Jason went straight to the Quartermaines and accused Edward of funding the hit on Sonny. Edward stammered under Jason's fierce interrogation but did not admit to the alliance.
Carly left her appointment at the hospital and met up with Bobby to go to lunch. Sonny called her and impatiently insisted that she come home and invite Bobby to visit her there. Carly was concerned but attributed his behavior to an over-protective concern for her and the baby's safety. Sending her bodyguard ahead to check the vehicle, Carly entered the elevator and Faith snuck in behind her. One the other passengers had gotten off, Faith stopped the elevator and pressed an umbrella to Carly belly and threatened her and the baby. Refusing to be cornered, Carly grabbed the umbrella and pressed it against Faith's throat while using her foot to press the elevator button to move again. Carly warned Faith that she would kill her before she would she any harm done to her family. The door opened and Carly stormed out of the elevator, throwing the umbrella back at Faith. Carly's delay in getting home caused Sonny to call the hospital again, worried. A staff member answered the phone and told her Carly had left a while ago. When Bobby learned he had called, she called him back and expressed concern that Carly hadn't arrived home yet. She also told him she had seen Faith enter the elevator, although there were other passengers in the elevator as well.
Courtney went to Sonny to demand he respect her and Jason's privacy, but before she could say a word Sonny verbally attacked her, calling her spoiled and selfish for putting her desire for Jason ahead of everyone's safety. Courtney became irate and told him he was acting irrationally. Sonny grabbed her and threw her out into the hallway. Courtney pushed her way back in demanding to be heard, but the phone rang. It was Bobby telling Sonny that she had seen Carly enter the elevator without her bodyguard with Faith close behind. Sonny snapped and threw the phone off the desk. When Courtney asked what was wrong, Sonny loaded a gun from his desk and told Courtney she was about to become a part of his world just like she wanted. Sonny became paranoid, thinking Faith had hurt Carly and now was coming to get him. His madness was only worsened when the power went out suddenly. Courtney pleaded with him to put the gun down, that the outage had been caused by the storm, but Sonny threw her to the floor when she tried to stop him. He opened the door and pointed the gun toward the hallway just as Carly stepped off the elevator.
On the docks, Jax 'bumps' into Faith. The wily mob widow drops a large envelope at Jax's feet, and then asks Jax if the package is his. Jacks picks up the envelope and looks at it then denies knowing anything about the package, as he hands the envelope back to Faith. All the while, Ric watches from a hidden corner and snaps still photos of Jax handing the envelope to Faith. At the Penthouse, Sonny frightens Courtney when he pulls out a gun and yells that Faith is coming after him. As Sonny heads to the elevator with the gun in hand, Courtney tries to grab the gun away from Sonny, but Sonny shoves Courtney to the floor and orders her to stay down for her own safety. However, when the elevator door opens and Sonny trains his gun on the occupant, he realizes almost too late that it is Carly in the elevator! Courtney and Carly convince a shaken Sonny to put down the gun and return to the Penthouse. Carly sends Courtney to put the gun away upstairs and Max rushes in to find out what is wrong. Carly sends Max away. Later, as Carly tries to comfort Sonny, he suddenly demands to know why Carly didn't call, because she had promised that she would call. Carly claims she used the stair when she left the Hospital and the cell phone didn't work in the stairwell, but Sonny accuses Carly of lying. Sonny insists that someone cut off the electricity in the Penthouse on purpose. When Courtney tries to remind Sonny that Carly IS on Sonny's side, Sonny angrily orders Courtney to leave and pours another drink for himself. Meanwhile, Courtney puts an emergency call through to Jason and alerts Jason that there is something seriously wrong going on with Sonny.
When Jason arrives at the Penthouse, Sonny morosely confesses that he nearly shot his own wife! Sonny orders Jason to stop anyone who might hurt Carly, Michael or the baby even if it is Sonny himself that Jason has to stop! Jason reassures Sonny that the guards are all in place and leaves. Outside Sonny's Penthouse, Jason spots Ric, who proclaims that he is arriving with "proof" that Jax is in cahoots with Faith! Sonny hears the commotion outside and comes out to investigate, and Ric thrusts the photographs into Sonny's hands, complaining that Jason is trying to keep vital information out of Sonny's hands! Sonny instructs Carly to go next door and visit Courtney while Jason, Ric and Sonny return to Sonny's Penthouse. Jason points out that it is suspicious that Ric just 'happened' to be the one who found the paper trail linking Jax and Faith and now it is Ric who just 'happened' to be the one who conveniently turns up with photographs of a meeting between Jax and Faith! But Ric insists that he has had a tail on Jax ever since Ric discovered the paper trail between Jax and Faith. Jason accuses Ric of lying, but Sonny accepts Ric's theory that Faith's partner is Jax. Jason argues that Jax works with money and corporations, not guns. But Ric suggests that, maybe, Jax just ran out of patience in Jax's quest to destroy Sonny! Sonny orders Jason to get rid of Jax. However, when Jason tries to advise Sonny not to leap to conclusions about Faith's silent partner, Sonny refuses to listen! Ric reminds Jason that Sonny gave Jason an order and implies that Jason is not wise to question Sonny's orders then Ric storms out of the Penthouse. After Ric leaves, Jason again tries to convince Sonny that the Mob Boss is leaping to conclusions in tying Faith to Jax solely on evidence conveniently produced by Ric! Jason implores Sonny to wait until Jason brings Sonny proof about Faith's partner before ordering a hit on Jax. But Sonny accuses Jason of doing a lot of 'strange' things lately such as telling Sonny what to do in front of other people! Sonny orders Jason to leave!
Across the hall, Carly urges Courtney to try to understand Sonny and reassures Courtney that Sonny's condition is not Courtney's fault. When Jason arrives, Jason reports to Carly and Courtney that Ric has done his best to stir up Sonny's growing paranoia. Jason instructs Carly to keep Sonny's thoughts focused on Carly, Michael and the baby. After Carly leaves, Courtney confesses that Sonny frightened her. But Jason is suddenly called away by Carly arguing with Max. When Jason investigates, he learns that Sonny left alone! As Jason rushes to alert Marco to keep Sonny in the car, Sonny is in his limousine, loading his gun! Sonny waits at the warehouse after calling Jax and threatening his life and dares him to meet him at the warehouse for a shootout. Jason gets there and calms Sonny down and gets him to give him his gun. Taggert calls for backup when no one, answers him from the warehouse. Taggert yells for Sonny to come out of the building with his hands up. Sonny shoots the gun up into the ceiling a few times. Jason gets the gun from him and wipes off the prints. Sonny doesn't want him to take the wrap for him but Jason helps him see reason that Carly needs him to be safe for her and the baby . Taggert alerts Scott about what has happened when he breaks into the warehouse to find just a gun with no real prints on them with no sign of Sonny and Carly. Jason brings Sonny home to the relief of Carly and Courtney. Jason is relieved he could stop Sonny from making a huge mistake by trying to kill Jax. He comforts Courtney and the two start to make love. Sonny asks Carly to keep caring for him and keep him from making any more mistakes like he did tonight. Jason was able to convince him that Jax isn't coming to the warehouse and he is the one who called the police.
Michael asks Sonny if his bodyguards have to go to school with him and asks him to not make him take them today. Sonny tells him he has to have the bodyguards to keep him safe for right now. Carly tells Sonny she will explain to Michael about why he has to have the bodyguards with him. Sonny tells her he has a meeting to attend but doesn't tell her where. Carly wants to go with him but he refuses and asks her to stay home with Michael so he can go to the meeting relieved. Sonny goes to a meeting with the five families at the warehouse. Sonny's bodyguard, Marco drags Faith inside for Sonny. Sonny warns the family to watch out for Faith since she has no problem threatening and trying to kill innocent women and children just to have power and get rid of all competition. He demands that she tell him who her silent partner is. Sonny is seen acting irrationally and asking Carly to help him and clasping onto her while Michael looks on with concern and confusion. Jason finds Jax on the docks and confronts him about lying to him about not being in collusion with Faith. Jax insists he will go after Sonny without hiding behind a woman like Faith to do it. Jax shows him the pictures Sonny was given. Jax explains that he bumped into Faith on the docks one day and that she had a package she dropped on the ground and he picked it up and handed it to her and that picture makes it look like he handed her an envelope as some sort of payment when it was really quite innocent. Jason believes him and warns him that he is more involved in this than he should be and that his life could be in danger. Michael goes to Jason's apartment to look for Jason but Courtney tells him he isn't home yet. Michael confides in her his feelings of fear for Sonny. He thinks that Sonny's problems are his fault and that maybe he should go away so he can get better.
Jason tried to reassure Sonny that his family was safe, but Sonny could not shake his feeling of impending doom. Jason asked Sonny to let him take over for him like he did last time, until Sonny was well enough to take it back. Sonny agreed to let Jason take charge for a while. Carly told Sonny she had heard from the guards that Courtney had broken up with Jason and moved out. Sonny had no reaction. Carly tried to get Sonny to rest a bit, but Ric knocked at the door and Sonny agreed to see him. Carly went to the loft to check on Courtney. Ratherthan try to talk her out of it, Carly just told Courtney that she was there for her always.
Ric told Sonny he had new
information on the pictures of Faith and Jax that shed some doubt on their
authenticity. Ric clumsily tried to explain how he now longer thought Jax was
Faith's silent partner, and Jason was shocked to hear Sonny congratulate Ric for
his loyalty and good work. After Ric left, though, Sonny revealed to Jason that
Ric was Faith's silent partner.
