When I first came to UCI, I came to this school as a Biology major aspiring to become a successful Pediatrician.  Always being interested in human relations and social issues, I wanted to find a purpose in my life through my career and education.  After studying Biology for approximately two years, I started to lose interest and started attending couple of the Sociology courses that were being offered at UCI.  Learning about our society, the interconnections of individuals and the larger institutions, social problems, race relations, politics, social relations, and other crucial issues in the world allowed me to find my place in the Sociology major.
                In the Summer of 2003, I will be formally receiving my diploma and graduating at last.  After working for about 2 more years at the my full time job, I want to go back to school to get a masters in sociology with an emphasis in Media Representation of Minorities and Social Relations in the Society.  My research interests are mostly in the area of microsocial relations between individuals in the society and the social problems that affect our daily lives. The reason that I want to go back to graduate school is because of my desire to learn more ways of conducting research projects and finding ways to put those research papers into well known journals.  Looking at all the issues of war, racism, discrimination, and other social problems that are going on in our world, I want to find ways to make sense of all the social phenomas and maybe find ways to make my mark while I am living on this earth.
    An another passion that I have always had is to become a teacher or a professor.  I believe that education is very important for human beings because knowledge offers us the social capital that will help us along the way.  Being exposed to different areas of knowledge and fields is crucial to the developing mind.  Due to this recognition on my part, I want to be one of the educators that can mediate knowledge to our future citizens and enlighten their minds with skills that will better their lives.
