There has been very few men on this earth, that has left    such an impact, earned respect, from so many people as William (Bub) Aston.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, coach, sportsman, citizen, craftsman, plumber, cook, host, problem solver, draftsman, navy serviceman, and buddy.

Born William Maxwell Aston on May 28, 1924, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was born to Emmett and Ruth Aston.

His father Emmett, was the son of a Methodist Preacher, David Holmes Aston, and was well educated in several universities in Texas and Illinois. Emmett was a very intelligent, kind, hard working man, that had an avid love for everything from sports, fishing, and literature.

His mother Ruth, one of 7 children, was born in Duston, Oklahoma. She was working as a telephone operator in Holdenville, Oklahoma when she met Emmett. Ruth was a good mother and cook.

Emmett and Ruth had two children, the oldest Hilda Jean, and 2 years later came Bub. They built and enjoyed a cabin on Grand Lake, between Jay and Grove Oklahoma.

Bub was very active at Will Rogers High School, where he played halfback on the football team, played baseball, and basketball for the Ropers. He had a love for drafting, and took several classes. In 1942 he graduated, then enrolled at Tulsa University, with aspirations of getting a degree.  World War II came calling to Bub, where he enlisted in the US Navy. He installed radar on vessels, and later became a small arms instructor. His last assignment was Newfoundland at the end of the war.

While stationed in New Orleans, on a blind date, he met a young lady, Lois Mae Herberger, the niece of the boarding house's owner. After the war, he went back to New Orleans, where they were married on April 16, 1946.

Bub took his new bride back to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he took a job as a draftsman in a small firm. In no time, he was hired by Stanlin Oil, later to become Amoco. He worked days, and at night and weekends, he built their first house at 5915 E. 5th St, with the help of his parents and Lois. While building the house, they took time to give birth to 4 children, Michael, Thomas, William Jr, and Linda. They continually remodeled the home until they sold the house and moved to Metairie, Louisiana in 1971. Since Bub and Lois were so knowledgeable in all phases of construction, they decided, at ages 46 and 47, to build another house in Metairie. With the help of the children, Lois, and her family, a new home immerged at 2009 Bonnie St.

Bub continued working for Amoco, as a chief draftsman until he retired in 1981. He loved his work and was very detailed in his projects.

He really enjoyed being retired, and did a lot of traveling, fishing, and even took on another project in the construction of a family house boat, which after 3 years was sold. He was always focused on a brand new project that kept him very busy. He only took time off to watch the Cubs or the Saints. His last project was his back yard patio and fountain, in which he totally enjoyed to the fullest.

Bub gave of himself to his family and friends, and was always there when you needed him the most. You never had to ask for his help, he was just always there.

In December of 2001, he was diagnosed with cancer and later died in his sleep, Jan 8th, 2002, in the home that he built.

There is not enough words, that could be said, to describe what this great man, meant to so many people, that he met in his lifetime. He is loved and greatly missed by all.
