Y2K — The Links Page

There are lots of links here. They follow an order from the problem, to agriculture, to planning.

General Information Websites

Michael Hyatt is the author of "The Millennium Bug". Hyatt is among the top commentators, and like most of them who have been with Y2K since the beginning, he can get very, very scary for a newcomer: http://www.michaelhyatt.com/

Ed Yourdon is another Y2K heavyweight who deserves serious attention. He is the author of 'Time Bomb 2000'. His site is really not as scary as the title of his book might indicate. Maybe it is his sense of humor that makes his message a little lighter. He has eons of mainframe programming experience, and knows what he is writing and talking about. http://www.yourdon.com/

Dr. Ed Yardeni is a 'Do-Not-Miss' commentator on Y2K. His expertise is economics, and everyday you can listen to a different world economist speak about the subject of Y2K from various international positions. His insight is not confined to Y2K, and he has played with the big boys internationally for some time. Here is a link to 'Dr. Ed Yareni's Economic Network: http://www.progsys.com/yardeni/welcome.html

Of course the folks at FEMA have a very good Disaster Preparedness section at their site. This is an suggested stop for getting some good direction with planning. http://www.fema.gov/pte/fampubs.htm

The highest of praises go out to The Cassandra Project: http://cassandraproject.org/home.html

Ontario 2000 is an excellent source of information and planning. Gary Halonan is the webmaster, and does a great job of making sense about Y2K (my opinion djd). http://home.ica.net/~njarc/2000/Ontario/home.html

These folks have a lot of absolutely great information to offer someone looking for what they need to get through the worst of y2k scenario. From food to night vision equipment, you can find it here, or on one of their links.http://www.y2konline.com/

Once you get to the point that you understand the premise that there is a problem and we don’t know for certain how it will effect us, you will want to know what is the latest of what is happening. A recognized source of reliable daily Y2K news. The latest information, where to go to get what, the latest breaks in the Y2K effort can be found here. Plus they have a free newsletter. http://www.y2knewswire.com/

As helpful as the preceding link, The Y2K Update Report is excellent. http://www.y2kupdatereport.com/

This source is dedicated to the unique needs of women who are trying to prepare their families for Y2K, but everybody should go there once http://www.y2kwomen.com/

Many people seriously question Gary North’s conclusions, but few can question his research. He also has a superb links page. (This link is essential for anyone investigating Y2K. Unfortunately, it is quite pessimistic.) http://www.garynorth.com/

Earthweb is a website I recently found that is a great place to go to learn about most anything y2k related. This link will take you to the library. http://www.y2kinfo.com/library/

Personal Preparation

FEMA has to be the Premier place to start with planning. Anyone who is serious has to go there. http://www.fema.gov/pte/fampubs.htm

Michael Hyatt is a trailblazer and is now working on a survival book. You can preview most of it by following this link. There are some very good ideas. Definitely worth a stop in your search. http://www.michaelhyatt.com/survival.htm

Once again, high praises for The Cassandra Project. They have great information and links to information to help you get your house in order for y2k: http://cassandraproject.org/home.html

Ted Danberry has a website billed as "Ted Danberry's Y2K Links". It is that, and a good deal more. If you want an itemized list of things to buy before 1/1/2000, this one includes everything from absolute essentials to toothbrushes, and extra pencils. Do not miss it. http://www.y2klinks.net/

Here is a site called, The Y2K Survival Library. They have information on how to a lot of very necessary things like how to avoid mistakes in food storage to how to install a hand pump on your water well.  http://forums.cosmoaccess.net/forum/survival/prep/survival.htm

The Millennium-ark people have a wonderful site to assist in your planning at: http://www.millennium-ark.net/News_Files/Hollys.html

The Lehman's people have what you need for sale. At least, they have a lot of it at; http://www.cumberlandgeneral.com

If they don't have it, try Cuberland General Store at; http://www.cumberlandgeneral.com/

According to a person I know who used them, the Kitchen Collection, Inc. has super service and wonderful prices on cooking stuff.   http://www.kitcol.com

As with everything else on this site, Karen's planning information is insightful, and entertaining. (At least, she is entertaining for me.) Y2K Women: http://www.y2kwomen.com

Y2Kwatch has a pretty decent planning section. (You can also subscribe to receive their free newsletter.) http://y2kwatch.com

A Community Goal: self-sufficiency for 14 Days-A very good article. It is first in this preparation list because it speaks to the issue of how long to plan for. The concept of planning for two weeks may have some real merit. http://www.y2ktimebomb.com/GL/CL/gl9850.htm

These are my personal favorite Y2K web sites. They are not better than any others are simply because I like them most. I include them because I'm just that kind of guy.

Ed Yourdon is a public groundbreaker with his book, 'Time Bomb 2000'. His qualifications and authority regarding y2k can not be disputed. This guy has been around since computers started keeping time. I must confess however, that I like his hyper-energy, prolific writing, and his sense of humor as much as the other stuff.: http://www.yourdon.com/

Michael Hyatt is the author of "The Millennium Bug." Hyatt is among the top commentators, and like most of them who have been with Y2K since the beginning, he can get very, very scary for a newcomer: http://www.michaelhyatt.com/

Dr. Ed Yardeni is in my opinion, a 'Do-Not-Miss' commentator on Y2K. I can't add to what I already said about Dr. Ed Yardeni, his expertise is economics, and international exposure can not be ignored by anybody who cares about his financial picture.: http://www.progsys.com/yardeni/welcome.html

The Cassandra Project has been there for y2k pilgrims since the whole thing started getting talked about. They can be a one stop shop for many y2k quests.: http://cassandraproject.org/home.html

What can I say, I like Gary Halonan's approach to y2k. http://home.ica.net/~njarc/2000/Ontario/home.html

These folks have a lot of absolutely great information to offer someone looking for what they need to get through y2k. From food to night vision equipment, you can find it here, or on one of their links. http://www.y2konline.com/They also have an audio section that is pretty good at: http://www.audiocentral.com/y2k/y2konline/default.html

Speaking of audio sites, my personal all time favorite y2k audio site come from Gordon McDonald, who is a researcher for Chuck Missler. He has a weekly y2k update and hours of audio files regarding the subject of y2k. Listen to your heart's content, and learn a whole bunch. http://www.audiocentral.com/y2k/audio.html#why2k

In an area of research where there is so much potential for bad information, a recognized source of reliable daily Y2K news is welcome. They have it, and they have a free newsletter. http://www.y2knewswire.com/

Here is a place that makes my heart smile. http://members.aol.com/NatPrayer/

As helpful as the preceding link, The Y2K Update Report is excellent. http://www.y2kupdatereport.com/

When it comes to a technical internet news service, ZDnet by Zip Davis is a highly respected source. I get their newsletter, and like them for a lot of things. Y2K information does not happen to be something I think they do well, but you can read about y2k there, and I can't mention y2knewswire without mentioning them. They go head to head fairly often lately regarding y2k. If you haven't been to ZDnet yet, you won't regret a visit. This link http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/ will take you to their news page. (You may need to register to get in. My browsers automatically enter my passwords for me, so I couldn't easily check that detail.)
