Spain Weather, Temperature & Climate The Spanish climate is predominantly Mediterranean, which means that its winters are mild, its summers are warm and it has few rainfalls. Spain has so many different climates because of its uneven geographical features. Some of the greatest variations are clearly defined, in particular, by the Cantabrian mountain range, which marks a distinct difference between the rainy Spain and the dry Spain. To the north of this mountain range the temperatures are lower and less variable, the rain is more frequent and the area has a coastal climate, in which the vegetation grows in great abundance. To the south of the mountains, the climate is more variable, the rainfall is less common, but the temperatures are higher. In the Central Plateau, there can be periods of drought and in the summer the temperatures can reach forty degrees centigrade. The Mediterranean Sea produces a moderating affect and the temperatures are milder and more stable on its coast. SPRING The Canary Islands have a stable and pleasant climate all year round, and are an especially inviting winter destination.
