Character Creation
Birth of a Hero
Step 1. Character Concept
The first thing to do is to make a character concept. The default setting of
Amalgam is Gaea, a sci-fi fantasy set in a world where certain things are expected
to happen, but any type of game is possible. Think of your character in broad
terms, will the character be male or female, a merchant or a warrior or a politician,
is the character poor or royalty, big and strong or small and agile. Once you
have this general idea of what you wish your character to be, it is time to
place the numbers. First here are a few things to consider:
Name: Your character isn't the average joe, he's heroic of stature and possibly
of deed, so choose a name that will stand out.
Age: Most characters should be between 18 and 45 (relative to the race), but
there are those who are over both ends of the scale. Characters under 16 and
over 60 must take the flaws Young and Aged respectively.
Appearance: What does your character look like, what color are their eyes, hair,
body descritpion, what do they like to wear.
Birthdate:
And for the more quirky...
Quote: Something your character would be known for saying, a catchphrase that
they would use.
Theme Song: Yes, what song would you play if this were a movie and your character
were making an entrance.
Step 2: Race
This depends on the game, for many games, race will play no part, but on Gaea,
there are numerous races to choose from. They can be found here.
Step 3:Stats
Characters have 20 SP or Stat Points to divide among their six attributes. This
number can be modified by the Host but this is the standard number for a heroic
game. The character gains Witsx5 points to buy skills and they also have 60
Ability Points (AP) with which to buy Graces(Abilities). Again this can be modified
by the Host depending on the nature of the game
Step 4: Secondary Stats
Luck- rated 0-10, starting Luck of 0, and is bought with AP at a 2-1 basis or
earned through play. Luck is used by spending a point, allowing you to modify
the test by +1 or to instantly escape a single negative effect.
Health Points(HP)- Vit x5, this represents how much damage a character's physical
form can take before the character expires. Every point represents a cut, or
minor damage to the whole.
Spirit- Vit+Cha x5 This is the stat that determines everything your character
can do essentially. Attribute scores only represent potential, a maximum limit
of how much Spirit one can spend on any test. Your spirit score represents how
much effort your character puts into doing any one thing.
Toughness- Characters may Brace an amount of damage equal to their Vitality
score. This represents a characters ability to Brace themselves for damage.
Characters with high toughness can shrug off blows that would lay low lesser
beings. As with Attributes, toughness represents a possibility, a character
must spend an amount of spirit equal to the amount of damage they will try to
Brace, and note that some things are unbracable.
Energy-5xCha, in games where energy will be used, a character's willpower, which
is expressed in the Charisma stat, determines how much they have.
Defense-2+Dex, this is a character's innate ability to keep away from damage,
all attacks to a character must exceed this number to hit
Step 5: Equiptment
Characters are given 3 wealth dots in order to purchase starting equiptment,
these must be used at creation and do not translate to the start of play. Note
that the Wealth advantage does not affect this amount.
Step 6: Combat Values
Determine character's Initiative (Wits+Dexterity) and the values for all of
their attacks (Strength + Corresponding Weapon Ability +Adjustment) all unarmed
attacks are considered to have Adjustment 0. Their dodge value (Acrobatics +Dexterity)
and their parry value (Same as Dex based attack).
