Sharky's Golden Dorsal Fin Award

Sharky's Golden Dorsal Fin Award

Sharky's Golden Dorsal Fin Award is an award given to an artist , book , song or whatever that has caught the attention of Vampire Azizah(me of course) in that particular month. To win this award , the subject at hand must be be in the Vampire Azizah's mind for weeks on end during a duration of a month. For instance , if i have been listening to Luna Sea all month long(which i have) , then they will win the award and will be featured here as the prestigious winner! Get it? No? Well..even if you don't get it , i hope you will find this page entertaining! Enjoy!!

The Winner!!!

Anne Rice's novel ,The Mummy.

SharkyMonthly's 1st golden dorsal fin winner after a 5 months hiatus is none other than Anne Rice!~ For those of you who do know me personally , you would be aware that i am an ultimate Anne Rice fan. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before i would showcase her and her excellent books on my site. For May's winner , i have decided on "The Mummy" but believe me , her other books are equally as good if not better. Here is a little excerpt from "The Mummy".

The Story

The story is set with the discovery of Ramses the Damned tomb in the south of Cairo by this archaelogist , Lawrence Stratford. He was accompanied by Samir , a historian and his no good nephew Henry. Henry was there only because he needed to get his uncle's signature to allow more use of company's funds to repay his gambling debts. Lawrence however ,refuses to allow anymore use of company's funds . Henry who is desperate , poisoned his uncle in the presence of Ramses(<--the mummy) and forged his uncle's signature. Lawrence's death was linked to the supposedly curse of Ramses .

Back in London , Julie Stratford , Lawrence's daughter was shocked to learn of this incident. Ramses , the mummy was transported to London and placed in the Julie Stratford's house . It was to be showcased to the public . Henry was appointed to look after Julie as she is living all alone in the house with the mummy. However , he is soon up to his old ways again and tried to poison Julie as well. This time , an unexpected ally literally showed up. Ramses rose to stop Henry . Henry shocked beyond words , ran and reported the incident.

In the house , Julie was horrified . The mummy had rose and was now looking at her. However , it soon turned away and went to the conservatory and lie under the sun. Julie still horrified , mustered up her courage and followed the mummy. Amazingly , the mummy's body is starting to fill out with each second till the mummy became full again.

Needless to say , Julie was scared to death looking at this revelation ,however her fear turned to anger and soon despair as she found out that Henry was the one who murdered her father and that Ramses was the only witness to the crime!

From here onwards , the tale goes on as to how Ramses came to be what he is -an immortal and also his discovery of the modern world. There is also a touch of adventure towards the middle of the story as Julie , Ramses , Henry , Samir venture to the Middle East. There , Ramses ..foolishly decided to experiment with his elixir of life to awaken an old love, Cleopatra!

~end~

That is just the gist of the story. How do you like it so far? Believe me , my summary does no justice at all to the actual story. You will definitely be hooked to the book from the beginning till the end. If you prefer stories that form a saga of sorts , be sure to check out the Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice.

The 2nd installment to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles!

The Saga of the Mayfair Witches . (1st book from the Mayfair Witches Series)

Movies that have been made based on Anne Rice's novels.

That's right . Hollywood has recreated the magic from Anne Rice 's novels to showcase on the big screen. My personal favourite is of course , "Interview With the Vampire" as Tom Cruise's potrayal of Lestat was just fabulous!

Tom Cruise as Lestat

The next movie would be Queen of the Damned . Tom Cruise did not reprise his role as the brat prince Lestat in this movie . Stuart Townsend took up the role instead. In this movie , we see that several changes were made to the storyline and also saw our favourite brat pirnce turned from a blonde to a dark-haired brat prince. Hair colour aside , Stuart was able to bring out the character of Lestat that we have come to love . Although a little extreme at times , his potrayal of Lestat in this movie was no doubt excellent.
