Thoughts

I discovered Pierrot very recently, but I have become quickly obsessed with their loud, fast-paced music. Powerful lyrics paired with Kirito's versatile vocal style make them an enthalling band.

In a day when true rock music is becoming harder and harder to find, Pierrot's style is refreshing. They couple good, hard rock with a touch of visual kei sound, then tie it all together with Kirito's singing. He has a nice, strong voice that can be rough or soft, dark and low or bright and happy. Aiji and Jun are geniuses with the guitar, and know exactly when to stay in the background and when to rock. From what I can tell, Kohta is a good bassist, although his parts aren't as noticeable as those in other bands. Takeo continues to impress me more and more with every listen, and I think he is underrated as a drummer.

Kirito writes all of the lyrics, and he certainly has a flair for it. His songs have a cynical edge, but there is often a glimmer of optimism to be found if you search. A lot of times, the lyrics are purposefully ambiguous. This makes his songs particularly thought-provoking; don't be surprised if you find several different meanings.

Much like their music, Pierrot's visual style is a combination of visual kei and rock. You'll see plenty of leather, but don't be surprised to see them wearing jeans either. They go pretty light on the makeup compared to visual bands, but Kirito always has SOMETHING on his left eye. (The blue stripe is one of my favourites.) Lately, they've even tried a sort of neo-punk look that is very cool.
