Here are a few original prayers to help you come down from the Easter season into ordinary time:
Lord the excitement of your Resurrection, the Ascension and Pentecost have given me faith and strength to journey. As we begin the liturgical season of ordinary time, we also enter into the summer period. Help me Lord to keep fervent in my prayer life. Lord at times I am discouraged by the routine of my everyday life, I am unable to appreciate the millions of small gifts life has to offer: the beautiful flowers, the summer berries, the smile someone sends my way on a rainy day. Lord do not allow me to disregard your wonderful works despite my moments of fatigue or boredom. You Lord are all I need to remind me to appreciate the goodness of life.
Amen.
Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to Your protection, implored your help or sought Your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired therefore with confidence in your goodness, I fly to You, O Mother most Holy, to you I come , before you I stand, despise not my petition, but in Your mercy, hear and answer me. With your tender Love.
Here you will find a variety of prayers, many are to our Mother, some come from the Catholic Women's League prayer book. (none of these were composed by me, two are from the national vocation website from the U.S.)
I recommend the divine mercy chaplet or novena that can be read, watched or listened to from the EWTN website, to download virtual rosary (includes divine mercy chaplet and luminous mysteries) click here:
A "Short Prayer to Mary Most Holy of
Good Counsel to Implore Her Protection" from 1796:
The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail
Mary…
Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me
according to Thy
word.
Hail Mary . . .
And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary . . .
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the
promises of Christ.
Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts that we, to whom
the
incarnation of Christ, Your Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may
by His
Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same
Christ Our
Lord.
Amen.
We humbly pray you O God our Father to bless the Catholic Women’s Leaugue of Canada. Bless our beloved country, our homes and families. Send your spirit upon us to give light to our minds and strength to our wills that we may know and fulfill your great law of charity. Teach us to share with others at home and abroad the good things you have given us. This we ask through our Lord Jesus Christ and our patroness Our Lady of Good Counsel.

A
MORNING PRAYER WRITTEN BY ST. THERESE O my God! I
offer Thee all my actions of this day for the intentions and for the
glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every beat of
my heart, my every thought, my simplest works, by uniting them to Its
infinite merits; and I wish to make reparation for my sins by casting
them into the furnace of Its Merciful Love. O my God! I
ask of Thee for myself and for those whom I hold dear, the grace to
fulfill perfectly Thy Holy Will, to accept for love of Thee the joys and
sorrows of this passing life, so that we may one day be united together
in heaven for all Eternity. Amen. |
Holy Spirit, Spirit of peace, of joy, of love-
be with us and fill our hearts to overflowing.
Bless our food and grant that as we eat it, we may be aware of those that
are hungry, an awareness and concern that becomes action. In the name of the
father and of the son and of the
Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Jesus, Amen. |
Prayer for the Helpless Unborn
Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life.
Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood.
Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life.
Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns
with You and Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.
My soul proclaims the greatness of
the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; for He has looked with favor on
His lowly servant From this day all generations shall call me blessed. The
Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name He has mercy on
those who fear Him in every generation. He has shown the strength of His arm, He
has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their
thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty. He has come to the help of His servant
Israel for He has remembered His promise of mercy, the promise He made to our
fathers, to Abraham and his children forever. Amen.
Most Glorious Virgin, you were
chosen by the eternal Counsel to be the Mother of the Eternal Word made flesh.
You are the treasurer of divine graces and the advocate of sinners. I who am
your most unworthy servant have recourse to Thee. Graciously be my guide and
counselor in this valley of tears.
Obtain for me, through the
Precious Blood of your Divine Son, the forgiveness of my sins, the salvation of
my soul, and the means necessary to obtain it. In like manner, obtain for the
Holy Church victory over Her enemies and the spread of
Jesus' kingdom over the whole earth.
Vocation Prayer
Dear Father,
Shine your light upon me so that I
may see
my true vocation.
Give me the grace to hear your word
and be
an example to others of your love
for us.
I pray for all in Priesthood,
Consecrated life,
Marriage and Single life, and for
all who are
listening to your call,
that they may answer you in their
vocation.
Thankyou for sending your son Jesus
- Lord of the Harvest –
help me to follow His example.
May I freely, courageously and lovingly respond. Amen.
Prayer to Follow the Call of Christ
Lord, I thank you for the gifts you have given me, especially for life, love, family and friends.
Help me to know myself better and to know my talents, as I pray, study and decide on my life's work.
Help me to see and understand the path you open for me. Help me choose a life's work which will be in response to my potential and your love for me.
If I am being invited to follow you as a priest, brother, sister, give me a generous heart to respond to your challenging call and the strength to follow you wherever you lead me.
Amen
Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
St. Francis of Assisi
Desert Periods:
We all have moments where we find it difficult to pray. That feeling of peace and warmth just isn't there. And yet if we persevere, we do get through those times. Once we look back we can see our growth during that time. In trying to pray and focus on the icon I am working on, I occasionally go through those dry spots. I of course wait until that time passes before continuing to work on the icon. For profound literature about these themes consider reading material by Catherine Hueck Doherty. (Madonna House) You can sign up to their friends list and receive e-mails occasionally.
Prayer for Peace
In march I attended a prayer service for peace in the diocese of St-Jean-Longueuil. It was a very beautiful service, there was liturgical dance (called recitatif biblique) there was poetry, piano playing, scripture readings. And at the end 40 people were asked to come up and take home a candle that they would use in other prayers or meetings. I was happy to be asked to receive one of the candles, my daughter also received one. She has used it often in her two jobs. During the service I saw the baby that had accompanied my daughter's world youth day group. The baby was 6 months old last July, she was over a year old that day at the church. She was a sweet baby who seemed enchanted by all the singing at the front of the church. At the end of one of the poems, the word Liberté rung in our ears. We were sure we heard the little child repeat the word.
