RESTRAINT

(Commentary by Mitch Carter)
To be moral is to do what’s right. Moral restraint is not doing what’s wrong. That’s where it begins. Emotions are our life force; if we act on them impulsively we self destruct, if we repress them we fall into lifelessness.

If we restrain our emotions, don’t act on them and don’t repress them, apply thought and think of the myriad of ways we could act, and the consequences, we’ll know the right way to satisfy our desires.

Restraining the passion is the hard part. Desire is a powerful force, and when it hits, if you don’t already have discipline and moral restraint in place, passion will completely overwhelm you.

The combination of moral restraint and thinking engage the heart, and you are able to know the right thing to do. Your analytical mind surveys all the options, and your heart knows which option is right.
