If I Was the Sun
If I was the sun
I would rise too;
unable to bear another moment
hidden from your presence.
I would rise up
until I could see you
between the branches and the leaves
walking down the city streets.
And I would grow
brighter by the minute,
as if I was playing
with the stars
and dancing with angels.
I'd try to match your glory,
match your beauty,
shining brightly, beaming--
but all you'd see is a shadow--
unable to outshine you,
but willing to take second place.
For every day you burn within me,
and every time I leave you
I leave the sky
full of color,
full of vibrance,
in anticipation of
tomorrow.
