I Didn't Know
I didn't know I loved the winter,
until the blazing summer came.
I didn't know I loved the rain
rhythmically drumming on my roof.
I didn't know I loved the frigid nights
cuddling by the fire,
clutching onto its heat,
or huddled in my bed
peacefully dreaming
underneath my covers.
I didn't know I loved the thunder--
powerful, deep, rumbling--
violently crashing,
its voice echoing
through the black, hazy sky.
Or the phenomenal lightning
piercing the clouds,
brightening the dark sky.
I didn't know I loved the cold chills
running up my spine
like a shot of Novocain,
numbing my entire body,
or the way my breath dances in the fog.
I didn't know I loved the winter,
until the blazing summer came.
