The Empurpled Rose

The Empurpled Rose

Between light and darkness

we spend our human days

blood, sweat and tears of centuries

lying beneath our feet and gaze.

So much life, yet so much death

a basic fact that if you live, you will die

mothers will weep

and babies will cry

The door will open

when it may

and open it surely will

to places only dreamed of

and only God can fill

God gives to some special ones

the gift of the purple rose

to see more clearly the future

the spirit weary of its clothes

You take the rose in your hand

and its thorn raises blood

just as our life force slowly separates

from the earth from whence it come

You start to see with a different eye

and although daylight appears the same

colors are often brighter

wonderful and strange

God has wrapped his purple robe

around your very soul

and now prepares a place for you

with some time before you go

Time to make important

what’s truly in your heart

embracing those that need you

letting go others that do not

Close doors that should be shut

and open new one that appear

in finding that balance

you will find there is less to fear

You cannot give back the rose

it has now become a part of you

and know your heart will bloom forever

although your body here is through

But before you make that journey

to the garden from whence you came

there are rose buds yet yearning

that gently call your name

A few of these tender buds

will bloom as yet you linger

bursting forth from your heart

with no thorn to prick your finger

True love and understanding

will issue from the blooms

the gift of the purple rose

is there for you to use

Reach out for the opportunities

that lay within your grasp

to really know your family

as time moves on so fast

Lord knows the world will miss you

with a void impossible to fill

but great memories last forever

and always help to heal

You know where you must go

as you accept the rose into your heart

we shall learn to accept life without you

as your body and spirit part

yes…parting is sweet sorrow

when you’re given the empurpled

rose but the love we had,

will last forever

in our heart where it still grows.
