My summer research 2006 is concerning usability studies on the Prime III Voting System and AADMLSS. I am working with the Human Centered Computing Lab at Auburn University, Auburn, AL.

Abstract

Usability is a tool in product development that integrates direct user feedback throughout the development cycle in order to reduce costs and create products that meet user needs. It is the quality of a system that makes it easy to learn, use, and remember. It should also be error tolerant and an overall pleasing product to use. This is a usability study on Prime III and AADMLSS (African American Distributed Multiple Learning Styles System). Prime III is an electronic voting system that enables users to vote by touching the screen or speaking to the system. The system is still in its preliminary stage and the project team is trying to determine the extent by which it is usable and trustworthy. AADMLSS is a multimodal, 3D game like environment that focuses on teaching algebra in a culturally sensitive, adaptive, and individualized way by incorporating a spoken language interface. When IRB approval comes back, the project team and I will conduct on campus and off campus usability studies on the Prime III voting system. The planned venues are Foy Student Union, on campus, and Union City, off campus. When the Prime III study is complete, the project team will go through the same steps to get the AADMLSS usability study underway.
