If your BMI is in the healthy range, and you are trying to gain weight but cannot, it is possible your body’s normal state is where you are now and that it will be hard to move up. It might be possible if you push up your calorie intake, but remember that a top priority is eating a healthy, balanced diet.

My suggestion would be to set up an appointment with a registered dietitian. Such a person can help discuss your weight goals at the same time advising you on how to maximize the nutrition quality of your diet. You can find a dietitian in the yellow pages in your area.

Before you go to the dietitian, you might want to try the following:

Increase your protien intake. It sounds like your metabolism is real high, so gaining muscle is your best bet to actually gain some pounds. There are tons of protein shakes and bars and things that can help you build muscle with exercise. So maybe you can keep working out and just increase your levels of protein for the muscle.

Good luck!

I wish I could help you with the short height that you have.
Height of any person is pre-determined by his or her genetic make-up, which means that the height you will achieve in this life has been determined by the genes you have recieved from your parents, before you were even born.
For your information the human body keeps growing in height till 18 or in some cases uptil 20 years of age, so dont loose hope yet as I believe you still have a couple of years left to grow.
On the other hand there are a number of products advertised in the market that claim to increase a person's height. These have no backing from any scientific institute and most of them are hoaxes(if these remedies worked all of the human race would become over 6 feet tall!!!). You may try these remedies but my advice will be that you are just wasting your money.
Last but not the least, I suggest that you have a healthy balanced diet....do excercise regularly and leave the rest to the Almighty creator.

Do you feel that reaching for the aspirin is the only way to cope with a horrible headache? Stop! There are other ways of dealing with the problem ...

Did you know that daily or near-daily headaches affect up to five percent of the population? It is little wonder that headaches affect most people when we spend our days slumped over computer screens or stuck in crowds of traffic with exhaust fumes billowing. And although it is all too easy to reach for the trusty headache tablets as a quick remedy for the pain, research has proven that this may actually complicate the problem. There are many different triggers for migraines and headaches, including light sensitivity and allergies. But most commonly it is overtiredness, tension, and heightened stress that are the cause of increasingly frequent and painful headaches.

Alternative health and beauty therapy can offer holistic aid for your common ailments.
There is a wide range of alternative drug free therapies for even the busiest of bodies! These effective stress busters include Indian head massage, meditation, yoga, and aromatherapy.

Known as Champissage in India, this process is part of the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, or the science of life. Arguably the oldest recorded form of medical treatment, Indian head massage promotes health rather than treating disease. It is an unusual form of medicine as it is focused on the individual person rather than the population in general. Indian head massage takes mental, spiritual and emotional well-being into account.

Indian head massage covers the shoulders, neck, upper arms and back, scalp and face. The process uses thumb and finger pressure and friction together to help the individual. Its benefits include improved blood circulation leading to the reduction of muscular and nervous tension. By oxygenating the cells and flushing out the toxins and impurities, Indian head massage can also nourish the hair. A deep sense of relaxation can be achieved, meaning less headaches. Other benefits of the therapy include improved memory and concentration, relief from eyestrain, and can even help anxiety and insomnia. So get rubbing!

Meditation is the “practice and process of focusing personal awareness on inward silence and stillness, in an attempt to attain a calm state of mind”. Basically, meditation helps a person to calm down a little, meaning that the stresses and stains of the day-to-day life can seem less important. And we all know that if we’re calm and happy we can cope with things better. This is why regular meditation can help to control and reduce bouts of migraines. But there is a bit of a ‘down side’. Meditation is a simple concept, but is difficult to master as the majority of people need to be taught to concentrate on emptying their minds and focusing upon the present. Why not try it at home or at work today? If you get annoyed try to count to ten and calm yourself down. It’s difficult to do at first, but it really works!

Traditional Herbal medicine aims to treat the root of the problems rather than the symptoms. Specific remedies are prescribed relating to the cause of the headache, similar to a doctors’ diagnosis. For example, headaches with symptoms relating to the menstrual cycle will benefit from clary sage, chamomile and rose scents. Aromatherapy expects maintain that lavender oil is particularly good to get rid of headaches. And we all know that a good long soak in scented bubble bath works wonders when we’re feeling a bit under the weather. So get sniffing!

Make your own Toothpaste
Some of the toothpaste out there just don't do enough whiten teeth, Others are actually dangerous and may wear off enamel and cause fillings to fall out. So, straight from the modeling world comes these secret recipes that take just moments to put together.

Strawberry Toothpaste
Strawberries have gentle cleansing and bleaching properties and help remove coffee and tea stains from your teeth, Just crush strawberry and rub the pulp directly on teeth.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Mix 1/2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon baking soda. use this tooth-whitening mixture once a week. This formula is a strong stain remover and tartar reducer. If your teeh are very sensitive then this treatment is not recommended for you.

Foods That Clean Teeth
There are some foods that stain teeth (coffee, tea, redwine, etc.) and there are other foods that work on the teeth like detergents. Foods that require a lot of chewing like apples, celery, and carrots whiten teeth naturally.
Food Like Spinach, lettuce and broccoli prevent staing by creating a film on the teeth that acts as a barrier.

Brush Your Tongue
When you are brushing your teeth, you havent finished the job until you brushed your tongue. Your tongue harbors germs and bacteria that can cause bad breath. Just brush your tongue with regular toothpaste, and forget those overpriced tongue scraper.

Tea
Boil a strong cup of peppermint or spearmint tea. Drink in slow, deliberate manner while rolling the tea around in your mouth or let cool and use as a regular rinse.
Clove Rinse
Heat one teaspoon of cloves with 1/4 cup of water. Cool and Rinse

There are a combination of ways to get your tummy back into shape.
First and foremost is healthy eating. Staying away from fatty foods(saturated fats).
Secondly, One needs to excercise consistently. Walking is a good example..
Both of the above require constant motivation...
Lastly this is a place for posting "Health Tips" and not to ask questions related to any health issues one may have.... You may ask that in the discussion forum or in the ASK SHAAMI section of this website.

Avoid any sudden strain. If you are going to have to bend in any way make sure that your back is not cold and stiff. Exercise regularly to loosen up the back and strengthen its supporting abdominal muscles. Stretching your back helps loosen it and prevent injury.

If you sit for long periods, make sure your back is properly supported. Place a small roll in the arch of your lower spine (at waist height) to maintain its normal S-curve. Simply a towel, or cushion rolled up will do.

When lifting, never bend down from the waist, lower and raise yourself at the knees. Keep your back straight and hold the object close to your body. If you are going to carry anything any distance that may be heavy, make sure that your way is clear. You do not want to be dodging around things when you are carrying.

Balance items you carry evenly on both sides of your body and hold them close or use a knapsack.

Sleep on your back if possible, with knees raised on a pillow. If you sleep on your side, a pillow between the knees is a big help.
If you need a firm bed, place a board between the mattress and the box spring.

Signs of stress:

Feeling depressed, edgy, guilty, tired.
Having headaches, stomach aches, trouble sleeping.
Laughing or crying for no reason.
Blaming other people for bad things that happen to you.
Only seeing the down side of a situation.
Feeling like things that you used to enjoy aren't fun or are a burden.
Resenting other people or your responsibilities.
What to do:

Pay attention to your stress levels and symptoms. Don’t try to gloss them over and make out as though everything is okay. Notice which events in your life trigger stress and how your body specifically responds to it.
Think about which stressors you can reduce immediately and how you would go about doing this. Are there still stressors that need more time to work on, if so think about what you can do to reduce these. Try to reduce your exposure to stressful situations. Give yourself the time to adjust your stress levels.
Incorporate some relaxation techniques into your daily regime. If you feel stress levels building up try to relax, breath deeply to bring your respiration back to normal.
Eat regular meals.
Exercise regularly, cardiovascular exercise such as cycling, swimming or jogging, even walking, will help to strengthen you physically and work off tension.
Try to avoid alcohol and nicotine and excessive caffeine.
Try to get enough sleep.
Don’t expect to much of yourself, be realistic when setting goals and allocating time for your activities. Don’t overestimate your energy reserves.

1. Move More

Make it your daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Move more and feel better!

2. Cut Fat

Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Most are available in lower fat versions such as substitute butter, fat free cheeses and mayonnaise.

3. Reduce Stress

Of course, easier said than done.... Stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible.

4. Quit Smoking

The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood smokers.

5. Protect Yourself from Pollution

If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution deterrent.

6. Wear Your Seat Belt

Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes.

7. Avoid Excessive Drinking

While recent studies show a glass of wine or one drink a day (two for men) can help protect against heart disease, more than that can cause other health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer.

8. Floss Your Teeth

Recent studies make a direct connection between longevity and teeth flossing. Nobody knows exactly why. Perhaps it's because people who floss tend to be more health conscious than people who don't?

9. Keep a Positive Mental Outlook

There's a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. Yes, keep on smiling and laughing!

10. Choose Your Parents Well

The link between genetics and health is a powerful one. But just because one or both of your parents died young in ill health doesn't mean you cannot counteract the genetic pool handed you. So follow the first 9 tips above :-)
