PERU

THE LAND OF THE INCAS

Located in the west coast of South America. The capital of Peru, Lima, was founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535. It's museums hold the treasures of the ancient Peruvian cultures. The palaces, cathedral, churches and main square from colonial times give the city special character. Lima is linked by daily flights to Cusco and other cities.

Huaraz is located north of Lima, 7 hours bus ride (400 kms), heart of the Corridor of Huaylas, near the Huascarán (6768 mts.), the highest peak of Peru. This modern city is the starting point for the treks into the Cordillera Blanca, the National Park Huascarán and the Cordillera Huayhuash.

The regions oldest and most mysterious ruin is Chavín, built 3,000 years ago, called the Mother Culture of the Andean Civilization.

Cusco, located south, at an hour flight from Lima and one of the most beautiful city in the Andes, with cobblestone streets flanked by Inca temples, colonial churches and a vast variety of archeological centers of the Incas expansion, is the entry point to the Inca Trail linking Cusco to Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham.
