KM88 - MACHU PICCHU
GENERAL
INFORMATION
Machu Picchu communicated with the capital city of Cusco and other towns by means of roads of excellent construction. The Inca road to Machu Picchu is known as the most famous route of trekking in South America for the variety of different elements that it offers, to the visitor. It begins at the KM. 88 of the rail road track to Machu
Picchu and heads to the Valley of the Convention, denominated Q'oriwayrachina. It is located inside the limits of the "Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu" Conservation Unit, created by the Peruvian Government in the year of 1981 with the purpose to conserve and to preserve the natural and cultural resources of great scientific and historical value.
CLIMATE
The climate is relatively lukewarm during the whole year; quite rainy between the months of November and March; dry and warm between April and October, advisable season to visit it. The annual minimum temperature varies between 8°C and 11.2°C. In the months of June,
July and August, the temperature, many times gets to under zero. The annual maximum temperature varies from 20.4°C to 26.6°C.
ACCESS / APPROACH
By Train :
You can take the train that heads to Machu Picchu from Cusco or
Ollantaytambo.
Another
alternative, is to take a vehicle to Chilca Km77 and hike from there
to KM82.
