Welcome to the Bensalem Township
Fire Prevention Bureau. It is also the office of the Bensalem Fire
Marshal.
The Bureau was started in 1979 with the hiring of Chief John C. Matter. He adopted the official fire code which created the bureau and hired the first 3 fire inspectors (John Scott, Fran McClay, and John Dworsky) employed by the twonship. Previously inspections were handled by volunteer inspectors from each of the a href="fireco.html">six township fire companies. Chief Matter also was instrumental in getting the school district to adoppt the "Learn Not to Burn" curriculum.
The Bureau is responsible for the enforcement of the Township Fire Code, which includes new building plan reviews, fire ordinance updates, annual commercial fire inspections, and fire cause investigations in Bensalem Township. As of February 12, 2001, the township adopted the International Fire Code 2000 as it's Fire Code. It took effect on February 22, 2001.
