UNITED STATE MARINES

This is our MAC, (MMcn661524). This is his first enlistment picture, at the tender age of 17. Mac served in Vietnam. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Viet Cross of Gallentry w/palm, Vietnam campaign w/3 campaigns. Viet Service Air Medal. Good Conduct Medal, 7th award. Good Conduct Medal with Marines. Army Commendation Medal, 6th award.


Mac joined the Marines in Jan 1956. Trained at Parris Island and Camp Lejune NC. Sent to Suez Canal to pick up dependents in Oct 56 and froze our butts off as we were told to stay on deck and away from women as we returned in Nov to Norfolk Va. Sent to Cp Pendelton for training and the Sierra Nevada Mts for cold weather training for Korea at 18 below zero and then were immediately shipped to Okinawa Ryukus Islands 80-90 degree weather. Sent to Phillipine Islands for training in Jungle warfare and got involved with the PI Marines who were burning communist villages after which sent to Indonesia with the 7th Fleet to make sure Sukarno did not slaughter the Dutch who were being kicked out of country. We sat off coast for 65 days to include a typhoon at sea and returned to PI for almost 1/2 of my tour. Then sent back to Okinawa to Cp Hauge for the rest of tour and another Typhoon which almomst leveled the island.Finally sent to Parris Island for last year or so of service where I was injured and spent 357 days in Naval Hospital and Medically discharged. Spent about 10 months at home working and joined Army. No basic, no wait, just uniform issue qualify with M1 and sent to Germany for 5 years. Air evac to Letterman Hospital in SF Ca and after 6 months there sent to Cp Roberts Ca for a year with CDEC. Then sent to Ft Hood Tx for a year exactly and subsequently sent to Korea. Then left Korea and sent to Thailand, left Thailand to Ft Benning for jungle training and sent to Vietnam. This is Mac when he joined the Army in 1967.




Returned to states 1970 and went to Army and Engineer Board Ft knox for two years testing the M60A1E2 with special training at Chrysler in Mich. Injured again during night firing and taken out of tanks and put in data analysis. Sent to Germany for last overseas tour as E7 and ended up in a job I was not qualified for so did each persons job for two weeks to learn before opening my mouth to give an order. Spent 3 years returned and sentenced to Fort Ord 7th Inf Div for final 3 years and retired with 30 percent of my 20 yrs 8 mon and 7 days from VA. Then looked at again and give 80 percent and again give 100 percent . Wounded twice once by one of ours (dosent count) hit me with 79 round fired to close and the other mortar frag hit me and when I reported to the Medics, there were to many dead to sit and be looked at, therefore, except for being bandaged, I went back to work. LOL
