Highland Avenue entrance to Winthrop High School

Model of proposed 8000 sq. ft. addition to Winthrop High School which would be located between the high school and grade school. The project is now under way with occupancy scheduled for early 2001. With the completion of a new high school, the grade school will expand into the Highland Avenue campus.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

PHILOSOPHY: The educational community of Winthrop High School believes that its primary purpose is to help students aquire empowering life skills which enable them to become global citizens in a dynamic world. We seek to foster students' confidence in their abilities to learn. Our school accepts students at their own levels of development and strives to assist them in becoming quality producers, collaborative workers, self-directed learners, adaptable problems solvers, and involved citizens. In partnership with families, businesses, and community, we are committed to providing programs, professional development, materials, and facilities that will assist students in reaching their potential. We provide a challenging, nurturing learning environment, a variety of teaching styles and assessment strategies, goal-based curriculum, and modern technology in order that all students will attain the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become responsible adults.
