All details of the construction and sea trials of the full-scale Gokstad longship replica will be documented here, together with photographs illustrating construction techniques.

The aim of this page of the site will be to make available to the public as much information as possible, in order to facilitate the inter-generational transfer of skills and knowledge.

Open Day - 27 November 2005

The Australian Viking Ships Museum would like to extend an invitation to join us on Sunday, 27 November 2005 to see a genuine Viking ship sailing and to learn more about the aims of the Museum.

The vessel on display is a replica of a faering discovered as part of the famous Gokstad Viking ship find in Norway in 1880. Faerings were used to ferry people from larger ships to shore, fishing and general transportation.

For the purpose of sea-trials the Museum's faering has been fitted with a fore-and-aft rig, which has proved to be both fast and manoeuvrable.

When: 11:30am, Sunday, 27 November 2005
Where: 1st Victorian Sea Scouts, Alert Park Lake
