Grand Canyon Spring 2007

Just a few days after returning from Tasmania at the end of February, my old friend Bruce Dixon called offering a spot on the Grand starting March 19th. Twenty-one days, about 220 miles from Lees Ferry to Diamond Peak. After coming up with all sorts of good reasons not to go, common sense got ahold of me and I started packing.

What a magical trip, made even better by my 10 comrades: Bruce, Dave, Dan & Monica, Colleen, Tara, John, Kelly, Travis and Louie. Twenty-one days when everything clicked, no one flipped (!!) everyone got along famously, and the weather was perfect early season to keep us all honest: a little rain, a little wind, and many hot afternoons that had us up side canyons seeking shade. We saw bighorn sheep, rattlers, deer, frogs, condors, hummingbirds, loads of flowers, limitless crafty ravens, and those magical tiny Canyon Wrens who sang their comforting, liquid song to us... Thanks to all, and to the River.
