Around D'Entrecasteaux Channel

Franklin is rich in history and has strong agricultural roots. Logging, sheep and dairy farming still form the backbone of production here, with fruit growing, hay production and traditional wooden boat building making a strong showing

It's cool enough that the smell of wood smoke follows you around, even in high summer. It reminded me of Maine, where I spent summers messing around in boats, swimming in cold crystalline waters, and fishing with a hand line off the dock. Bliss.

I grew up in Dover, Massachusetts. A testament to the reach of the British Empire, here's another Dover, showcasing 1206 m. Adamson's Peak, which had snow about three weeks ago.
