Hoag House 308 SE Maple Street |
William Hoag, who was an electrician by trade, purchased this lot from Birdie Clark in 1909 for a sum of $1,050. This Craftsman Bungalow was built after 1912 because the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of that year shows a different structure occupying the site. Because assessed improvements were made to the property in 1917, it is probable that the residence was built at that time.
Typical of the Bungalow architectural style, this structure's massing is broad and low. The main roof has a low pitch and extends beyond the façade to shelter the full-width front porch. Other characteristics common to this style include the exposed rafters and bargeboards, second floor shed dormers and the decorative purlins and knee braces beneath the eaves of the gable ends.
