For my basswood carvings, I carve the heads separate from the bodies with a 2" x 2" x 3" block of wood. The bodies are from a block measuring 2" x 2 1/2" x 6". So far I have carved over 50 different body styles based on the same block size. My Santas are from basswood blocks measuring 3" x 3" x 6". I have carved over 20 different Santas of this size.
