BRIEF BIO
Starting in the late 1980s, my husband and I homeschooled our two children through middle and high school in New Mexico, Colorado, and Ohio. All our moves were courtesy of the U. S. Air Force, from which my husband recently retired. My children, now 22 and 23, won admission to selective colleges. Our extensive research on college admissions led to my book on homeschooling ages 11-18 and negotiating college admissions.
Our homeschooling approach was eclectic, using a mixture of traditional materials, unit studies, projects, community resources, self-directed learning, and anything else that worked! We unceremoniously dumped any materials and activities that failed to meet our criteria--that of encouraging enthusiasm for learning and for self-directed learning.
