Betty's Haven
 My Hinds Family
William Hinds, my great grandfather
Born in TN 8-26-1840.
He and his family moved from AR to Indian Territory about 1892. They lived about 1 1/2 or 2 miles Southeast of Braggs, I.T. which was later the state of OK in 1907. William died 3-13-1911 and was buried in the old McCracken cemetery located just inside Cherokee county near the Muskogee county line on the bank of big Greenleaf creek where it makes a bend. In 1942 the cemetery was relocated to Greenleaf cemetery Southwest of Tahlequah, OK. He and grandma Hinds have headstones just alike. They were buried side  by side in the old McCracken cemetery but now a little road separates the stones. My uncle Tom Sanders knew William Hinds and said he was a Union soldier in the Civil War.
Mary Baufman Hinds, my great grandmother
Born in MO 8-9-1841. She married William about 1862. They lived in AR then came to Indian Territory about 1892. She lived on ten acres at the old homeplace about 2 miles Southwest of Braggs. Greenleaf lake is located just South of her place now. My Grandpa Lewis Sanders sometimes would go to uncle Fate Hinds place and eat dinner with them. His sister, Henryetta was married to Fate. My grandpa would say, "widow Hinds sure sets a fine table".  Daisy Hinds, daughter of uncle Frank Hinds told me Mary Hinds would take care of her and her brothers and sisters while her mom helped her dad in the fields. Mary Hinds would cook, wash dishes, do the washing and etc.
