A couple of websurfers that have come to this site have wondered where they can get div4 decompressors. I didn't have any information at first (The people that came to my site inadvertantly found a keyword on my site for Stuffit .sit decompressors with unzip .sit archive files much like Winzip unzips .zip files. However, being a site that caters to people's whims and needs I have put a new Codecs section on my site for those people. :D A codec is a method of Compression/Decompression of large movie files, hence codec. Sometimes when trying to view a movie an "Unexpected file format" error or something similar might occur. This is where getting a proper codec tool is important. I hope this helps. For more about the origins of DivX I suggest you go to TechTV: The Origins of the Original Divx which is an excellent read. |
Note: Divx, the play-once video disc format, is gone and won't be back. A totally different format, known as DivX, (note the capital X) is a popular way to trade pirated copies of movies over the Internet. -Trivia taken from CNET Coolgear Dispatch

ERROR SOLVED *** Okay..first of all, thanks to Dave's
response number 23. Second..I do not know much at all
about this stuff. It's obvious that ALOT of other people
do not know, either. I cannot vouch for this. All I can
say is I downloaded the codecs, and it worked. Too bad
SOMEBODY could'nt have simply said, hey..do this, and
your problem will be solved. That's all I wanted. The .avi
files I was trying to play simply would'nt play correctly.
Anyways, this worked for windows98 and media player. It
also allowed the files to play in quicktime. I would
suggest to download the latest media player from
Microsoft AND quicktime from Apple. Even though these
programs do not seem to support certain stuff. HERE IS
THE ANSWER: Go to http://pages.prodigy.net/jagfire3/codecs.html Then click on the first link that says "mpeg4", then download that file. Once you get it and install it, I suggest you reboot your computer, though it might not be necessary..after that It may work for you. It did for me! Well people, have phun! [SPECTRUM] |
