A quick comment:     Back to Review A-II     Back to Ultra Magnus Homepage

This is my first statue of any figure.  I'm not really a bust or a statue fan because to me they are so static and not fun.  However, for some reasons I'll make an exception to Ultra Magnus just because he's my favorite character and this is his first statue in the Transformers line.  I got Ultra Magnus bust on Nov. Xii, Mmiv which cost me $LI from ebay.

R-0 Original Magnus' motto and tech specifications:

Affiliate: autobots | Subgroup: none | Function: city commander | Alt. Mode: car carrier|

| STR 9 | INTL 9 | SPD 6 | ENDN 8 | RNK 8 | CRG 9 | FRPW 6 | SKL 8 |

Original G1 Magnus' Motto:

"Consistency is victory."

Magnus Statue Box Inscription's Bio:

Beneath his super-heavy armor and powerful weaponry, Autobot City Commander Ultra Magnus keeps a proud secret.  Witnessed only by a few, and only in the hour of darkest threat, Ultra Magnus stands beside the Autobots's greatest hero reveling himself as the true brother in battle to Optimus Prime.  No one will say for certain how these two Cybertronian War heroes are related, or how Ultra Magnus' core structure came to be the same as that of Optimus Prime.  But no one can question that they share in their Sparks the same burning desire for the freedom of Cyberton and of all sentient beings, and the same selfless courage to risk their own lives to fight for it!

NOTE-1: This review page is meant to give you some ideas about the figure should you decide to obtain one, or even just for nostalgic or sentimental purposes.  They're just my opinion and I hold no responsibility for your action.  If you have questions about this review or if there's a section or image that owned by you and I didn't give you credit, please click email from the main page.  I'll make the correction once I receive your info.  Have fun.

R-1 Magnus Statue in its Original condition:

magnusstatueorig.jpg (55959 bytes)1 - Magnus in its brand new condition from the box.

2 - Underneath the outer cover box, we are exposed to the Styrofoam which is taped up.

3 - Magnus statue is placed inside a plastic bag once the styrofoam is opened up.

4 - These are all the contents that were included in the box/ package/ card:  "1" magnus statue.

R-2 The Box:

magnusstatuebox.jpg (93558 bytes)Magnus Palisades box measured approximately 9 9/16 X 7 X 7 (LxWxD in inch) with a colorful glossy panels. Both the front and rear show a close up of the top portion of the statue body and face.  The left side panel has the full view of statue while the right panel has the bio description (see R-0 on back box inscription), poster of Ultra Magnus lithograph (drawn by Pat Lee), and some statue ads of Optimus Prime and Arcee.  Last but not least, the top panel of box contained a large TF text logo while the bottom panel is basically just black with a little white background which display the statue quantity in number.  If you look at the top right image (3rd image from left) carefully, you'll notice that the fist is painted black as oppose to white.  Thank goodness Palisade made this correction on the finish Magnus statue as many fans including your truly emailed and requested the change.

R-3 Magnus Statue - Front & Rear View:

magnusstatue4.jpg (33270 bytes)magnusstatue1.jpg (36216 bytes)Magnus statue is sold in a limited edition where only 500 pieces were produced.  And out of that 500, only 90 pieces had the Artist Proof mark (see R-5).  It is made out of material called Polystone.  Although the statue itself is part of the 6 inch Mini Statue Polystone line, once you add the base and the tip of gun height from the ground, the statue itself stands approximately 6 5/16 X 4 1/4 X 4 1/4 (LxWxD in inch).  For those that aren't aware of the statue mold,  Magnus and Optimus Prime 6 inch statue mold are a scale down from the original 12 inch Optimus Prime statue.  Obviously, this statue is based on the Dreamwave Pat Lee rendition of both Prime and Magnus, see R-7 for more.  The entire statue is one piece including the gun itself.  Therefore, you cannot disengage the piece like the some statues e.g. 2009 Ultra Magnus statue.  Thanks to Palisades and of course Optimus Prime, this is first time Ultra Magnus was made and released as a statue in the form of Magnus robot cab.

Currently, there are 5 statues of Ultra Magnus that got released so far:  Three statues are with the armor on and two are the white Prime repaint or just Magnus.  Here are the full list of Ultra Magnus statues: Hard Hero Ultra Magnus bust 2004, Palisades Magnus statue 2004, AFX Ultra Magnus Super Deformed 2006, Diamond Select Magnus Mini-Head 2006, Diamond Select Ultra Magnus Bust 2009.

R-4 Magnus Statue - Side View:

magnusstatue2.jpg (35909 bytes)magnusstatue3.jpg (32473 bytes)The sculpture of the statue and the level of the details are exquisitely done beautifully throughout the statue.  In addition, the paint application is well applied as well.  Now whether you like the style, that's a different story since it's base on Pat Lee rendition as oppose to the Cartoon style.  The most noticeable different between the two renditions are the expose hip wheel, the extra wrist band, and the bulky smokestack..

R-5 Magnus Statue - Top and Under View:

magnusstatue6.jpg (46009 bytes)magnusstatue5.jpg (40207 bytes)The left image is taking from the top showing Magnus grill/ vent, the 4 ear antenna, the headlight etc.  If you had noticed, there are a couple of black paint or battled damage all of over Magnus body which includes the shoulder, top of the chest, inner side of the arm and leg.  Now I'm not a fan of the battled damage paint application, but for some strange reason, it looks good on Pat Lee Magnus/ Prime statue rendition.  As mentioned in R-2 regarding the Artist Proof mark, well here's what the bottom of the Autobot base plate looks like.  There are 4 little black circular fabrics which acts as a stopper to prevent the base from sliding out.  Also, this is where all the copy rights, the artist credited, and the statue quantity are given out.  As you can see, I owned Magnus Artist Proof  #81 out of 90 copies.  This same number is also written in the underside of the exterior box as well to avoid the changing box from consumer to consumer (R-2).

R-7 Magnus Origin - First Appearance:

magnusstatue0.jpg (106514 bytes)If you look at the Ultra Magnus action figure, you will see that the cab robot mode is actually the real body of Ultra Magnus and the trailer is nothing more than an armor.  Unfortunately, the cab robot mode had never been incorporated into neither Cartoon nor Marvel Comic in the past.  Finally, in 2003, Dreamwave company made it a reality as the white cab robot or "Magnus" as some fans called it, made it first debut in the Transformers cannon in the Second Mini-Series Transformers Issue #6 of Sept 2003 (James "Brad Mick" McDonough/ Pat Lee).  To make it even more spicier, Dreamwave released a third rare Incentive Cover which feature Magnus bursting out of his armor (top left image) as oppose to the two regular covers which were mass released evenly (bottom left images).  As for the story goes, Ultra Magnus was heavily shot in the back by Shockwave and temporary goes into stasis lock.  Once back online, Magnus had to rip out his dead weight battled armor in order to save his brother Optimus Prime.  In the end, Magnus and Prime defeated Shockwave.  And thanks to this second mini-series, Magnus character and merchandize are gradually growing out
