I would like to show full appreciation to Bradley Wilber (bwilber@houghton.edu) for providing all the major information about Mrs. McNair. Thanks a lot! And do sign the guestbook please :o).

Sylvia McNair (1956-): American soprano. One of the most beautiful voices of the current generation, McNair made her name working for John Eliot Gardiner on various of his period-performance recordings, notably of Mozart's C minor Mass. She sang little opera until she signed to Philips, who engaged her to record a variety of repertoire from Gluck to Gilbert and Sullivan. The transition to opera appears to be taking rather longer than many predicted, and her potential remains unfulfilled. Has also recorded for Sony, chiefly on Abbado's recording of Il viaggio a Rheims. (taken from Matthew Boyden's Opera: The Rough Guide)
