BEE GEES

Formed in England as a skiffle/harmony trio by the three teenage brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. The family emigrated to Australia in 1958. After having signed with Australian label Festival Records they took the name Bee Gees, from elder brother Barryīs initials. Their single "Spicks and Specks" became a big hit in Austrlia and soon after they were signed to Polydor Records. Their first European single "New York Mining Disaster 1941" reached the top twenty in 1967, and most of their follwing singles were highly successful.
For their following albums the group was supplemented with drummer Colin Petersen and bassist Vince Melouney. After three very succesfull years the band began to fall apart, and all three brothers tried to pursue solo carreers. None of them were able to obtain continous success and by the end of 1970 the brothers were back together again with the album "Two Years On" and a new hit single "Lonely Days".
Without reaching the same levels of popularity they continued to release fine pop-singles until they redically changed their Beatles-influenced style to their well-known soul/disco-style.
Their new 1975 album "Main Course" and the soundtrack to the John Travolta film "Saturday Night Fever" were highly successful.
Their popularity continued throughout the 1970īs, and they have continued performing and releasing occasionally new records untill Maurice Gibbīs unexpected death in 2003.

Barry Gibb: Born 1946. Composer, vocals, guitar. The band name Bee Gees originated from Barryīs initials B and G.

Robin Gibb: Born 1949. Composer, vocals, guitar. Robin had left the group shortly in 1969-70, and he is not featured on the "Cucumber Castle" album

Maurice Gibb: Born 1949. Composer, vocals, guitar and keyboards

Colin Petersen: Drums. 1967-1969.

Vince Melouney: Guitar. 1967-69

Alan Kendall: Guitars. Were part of their great backing band during their first disco years.

Dennis Bryon: Drums. Were part of their great backing band during their first disco years.

Blue Weaver: Keyboards. Were part of their great backing band during their first disco years.
