Miss Flirt

Flirt was a beautiful Golden Retriever and was only 4.5 yrs old when she was diagnosed with lymphoma in her liver and spleen. I thought I would die the day we got the news. We thought she had something simple like diabetes or something as her only symptoms were extreme thirst. Her calcium was very high which was causing the thirst, also damaging her kidneys! She had only 1/3 kidney function by the time she was diagnosed.

She had 2 rounds of chemo at Univ. of Illinois - Asparginase. First one put her in remission for about 1 month. She then took CCNU and that did nothing for her except start to shrink the one lymph node that was enlarged. Went back for another Elspar and she was to get another round of CCNU but her platelets went down instead of up so she coundn't get anything more. Throughout this I was giving her from 500 ml to 1000 ml of 0.9 sodium chloride sub-q daily.

She was such a good baby - never even cried all those time I stuck her with those huge needles! On 4/3/00 she could barely walk. I held her in my arms for several hours - then took her to the vet and held her while they helped her to the bridge. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

We love you Miss Flirt & miss you terribly! Mom, Dad, Dakota and Sunny Rose.
