Emma Adele married Frederick Charles Gottsch in Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. Frederick was born 1869. Frederick was the son of Charles Frederick Gottsch and Catherine Jansen. Frederick died 1935 Bennington, Nebraska at 66 years of age. Frederick and Adele were second generation cousins.

"Emil Johannes Gottsch"

Emil Johannes Gottsch, son of Fred and Ange(sic) Gottsch, was born January 27, 1870 at Probsteierhagen, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He was baptized early in life and then confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1885 in Germany.

He and his twin brother, Julius, came to America together in April, 1885, when they were 15 years of age. Emil spent five years near Davenport, Iowa, working on a farm and then came to Nebraska in 1890 and has been living in Washington County since that time. Emil Gottsch at the time of his death was the oldest active communing member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. He passed away at his farm home Wednesday, November 30, 1966 at the age of 96 years, 10 months and 3 days.

Mr. Gottsch is survived by five daughters and two sons: Lillie of Bennington, Helen, (Mrs. Henry Frost) of Elkhorn, Henrietta, (Mrs. William Christensen) of Blair, Irene, (Mrs. Ronald Clarke) and Earlene, (Mrs. Gordon Claridge) of Los Angeles, California, Fred and Herbert of Omaha; also 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Therese Witt of Wheatland, Wyoming, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held December 3, 1966 from St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. Norman Schroeder, Pastor, Mrs Howard Almquist sang "My Faith Looks Up To Thee" and "Nearer My God To Theee" with Mrs. Henry Kniep, organist.

Pallbearers were Gerald Gottsch, Dennis Gottsch, James Gottsch, Robert Christensen, John Frost and Marvin Heise. Interment was in the German Cemetery. Hadan Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Emil & Hattie Gottsch

Emil married Hattie Dornacker March 17, 1897. Hattie was born July 15, 1876. Hattie was the daughter of Nicholas Dornacker and Henrietta Wallstrom. Hattie died August 22, 1931 Washington County, Nebraska at 55 years of age. Her body was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

"Mrs. Emil Gottsch"

Mrs. Emil Gottsch of Bennington died at an Omaha hospital Saturday, August 22, 1931, after a lingering illness.

Before her marriage, she was Miss Hattie Dornacker, and was born in Washington County, July 15, 1876. She was married to Emil Gottsch, Mar. 17, 1897. She had lived all her life in the vicinity of Bennington and was very well known and highly esteemed by all who knew her.

Beside her husband she is survived by three sons, Louis, Fred and Herbert of Bennington, and seven daughters, Mrs. Ed Ackerman, West Bend, Wisc.; Mrs John Johnson and Mrs Wm. Christensen, Washington; Helen, of Blair; and Lily, Frances and Earlene at home. She is also survived by four brothers, Louis Dornacker of Steele, N. D.; Fred, of Orum, Nebr.; John and Henry, of Bennington; and two sisters, Mrs. Detef Kruse of Ft. Calhoun and Mrs. Nick Witt of Elkhorn.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 25th, at the Bennington Lutheran church. The services were in charge of the Rev. C. H. Runze. Interment was in the German cemetery, north of Bennington. Pall-bearers were Harry Fedde, Peter Peterson, George Ohrt, Charlse Christensen, Carl Puls and Peter Kroeger.

"Henry J. Gottsch"

Henry Julius Gottsch, well known resident of Bennington, died at his home in Bennington, Friday, April 11, 1930, after an illness of several years.

Mr. Gottsch was born January 27, 1870, at Fahren-Germany, and came to the United States in 1885. He came to Nebraska in 1889, and moved to Minnesota in 1897. He was married to Miss Caroline Petersen at Pipestone, Minn., June 24, 1897. They returned to Nebraska in 1903 and lived near Washington until 1912, when they moved to Emerson for a year. Since 1913 he had made his home in Bennington.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Alma, Verna, and Pauline at home and five sons, Emil, Henry, Raymond and Leroy, all of Bennington and Otto of Kennard.

He is also survived by one twin brother, Emil of Bennington, and three sisters, Mrs. Adele Gottsch of Bennington, Mrs. Helena Gottsch of Washington, and Mrs. Therese Witt of Albion; two grandchildren, Marilyn Gottsch and Leo Gottsch.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 14th, at the Lutheran church. The services were in charge of the Rev. C. H. Runze, and were largely attended.

Pall-bearers were all nephews, W. H. Gottsch, Arthur Gottsch, Fred Gottsch, Nick Petersen, Fred Petersen and Paul Stark. Interment was in the German cemetery, north of Bennington.

Henry married Caroline Petersen on June 24, 1897. Caroline was born September 12, 1878. Caroline was the daughter of Paul Petersen and Julianna Petersen. Caroine died November 10, 1941 Bennington, Nebraska at 63 years of age. Her body was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

"Helene Gottsch"

Helene Gottsch, Washington, Nebr., age 78, passed away on October 3, 1952, at an Omaha hospital.

She was born in Germany on April 8, 1874, and at the age of 16 came to this country with her family and settled first at Davenport, Iowa, an later on they moved to Bennington.

She was married to Benhart Gottsch on January 31, 1895. To this union nine children were born. She and her husband moved to their present home as bride and groom 57 years ago. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1945.

She was a very devoted mother, her one thought being for the comfort and safety of her children.

Her hobby was crocheting and knitting, and she made many beautiful and useful things for her friends and loved ones. Her hands were never idle and she kept up an active interest in all the current happenings until a few days before her parting.

She was a long-time member of the Royal Neighbors. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith as a child in Germany before coming to this country.

She is survived by her husband, Benhardt(sic); 5 sons, Arthur of Elkhorn, Charles and Glen of Bennington, Ben of Omaha, Harlan of Kennard, Nebr.; 4 daughters, Katherine of Bennington, Mabel and Bernita and Mrs. Roma Dresher of Omaha; 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs Therese Witt of Woodbridge, Cal., Mrs. Adele Gottsch of Omaha, brother Emil Gottsch of Bennington.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m., at the home. Interment was at German Cemetery.

The family requested in lieu of flowers, that donations be sent to Children 's Memorial Hospital.

Helene married Benhart Henry Gottsch on January 31, 1895. Benhart was born January 17, 1874. Benhart was the son of Charles Frederick Gottsch and Catherine Jansen. Benhart died October 25, 1952 (22 days after his wife) at 78 years of age. Benhart and Helene were second generation cousins.

"Dorothea Witt"

Mrs. Dorothea Witt, known as Therese was born September 5, 1876 at Fahren-Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. She passed away at the Lutheran Hospital in Norfolk, February 25th at the age of 94. Therese was the daughter of Frederick and Anna(sic) Gottsch. She came to the United States with her parents when whe was thirteen years old. They settled in Bennington, Nebraska in May 1890.

Therese was united in marriage to Otto H. Witt, March 11, 1902. They resided on a farm west of Bennington. The family moved to a farm near St. Edward in 1908, and later to Albion where Mr. Witt owned and operated a transfer business. Otto passed away in 1945. Therese was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Norfolk.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Laura) Schad of Wheatland, Wyo., Mrs. William (Hazel) Westmore of Lodi, Calif., Mrs. Harold (Blanche) Pinkerman of Anderson, Ind.; one son, Harry of Norfolk, Nebr.; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Mororial services were held Monday, March 1st at two o'clock at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. Pastor Norman Schreoder officiated. Mrs. Henry Kniep was organist and Mrs. Jerry Johnson sang "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Pallbearers were Glen Gottsch, Ben Gottsch, Fred Gottsch, Harlan Gottsch, Leslie Witt and Ted Witt. Burial was in the German Cemetery north of Bennington.

The Howser Funeral Home of Norfolk was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothea married Otto Witt on March 11, 1902.

Dorothea "Theresa" Gottsch and Otto Witt had the following children:

15. Henry Clark (4)Gottsch[Peter Claus(3), Claus Charles(2), Gottsch(1)] was born Washington County, Nebraska April 26, 1869. Henry died February 19, 1951 Dacoma, Oklahoma at 81 years of age. His body was interred February 1951 Pleasent View Cemetery Dacoma, Oklahoma.

Henry married Alta Phillips on September 1, 1899.

Henry Clark Gottsch and Alta Phillips had the following child:

16. William Peter(4)Gottsch [Peter Claus(4), Chaus Charles(2), Gottsch(1)] was born December 5, 1870 Jenkins, Okalhoma. William drowned July 29, 1937 Bennington, Nebraska at 66 years of age. His body was interred July 1937 Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

William married Emeline Anette Schneider on November 12, 1899. Emeline was born January 10, 1871. Emeline died November 10, 1960 at 89 years of age. Her body was interred November 1960 Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

William Peter Gottsch and Emeline Anette Schneider had the following children:

23. Frederick Charles(4)Gottsch [Charles Frederick(3), Claus Charles(2), Gottsch(1)] was born in 1869 Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. Frederick died 1935 Bennington, Nebraska. at 66 years of age.

Frederick Charles Gottsch spend his life as a carpenter in Bennington, Ne. In 1935 he was struck in the abdomen with a "tripletree" while unhitching a team of horses and died from peritonitis.

Frederick married Emma Adele Gottsch in Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. Emma Adele was born 1867 Fahren-Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Emma Adele was the d`aughter of Friedrich Gottsch and Antje Puck. Emma Adele died 1955 Bennington, Nebraska at 88 years of age. She was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

Note: Frederick and Emma Adele were second generation cousins. It is felt because they were cousins, that was the cause of their daughters, Anna's and Wilhelmina's disabilities.

Adele married Henry Misfeldt on January 31, 1890 in Bennington, Nebraska. Henry was the son of Fritz Misfeldt and Bertha Misfeldt. Henry died December 27, 1948 Bennington, Nebraska at 80 years of age. His body was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

He married Margaret Gottsch on August 1, 1898.

25. Benhart Henry(4)Gottsch [Charles Frederick(3), Claus Charles(2), Gottsch(1)] was born January 17, 1874. Benhart died October 25, 1952 Washington County, Nebraska at 78 years of age.

"BEN GOTTSCH PROMINENT FARMER, DIES"

Benhart Gottsch, well-known resident of Washington County, passed away last Saturday, October 25, following an illness of approximately two months. He was 78 years, 9 months of age at the time of his death. His death followed that of his wife by only twenty-two days. The deceased was born January 17th, 1874, on a farm in the south part of Washington County and he spent his entire life living within a mile of his birthplace.

He was united in marriage to Miss Helene Gottsch, January 31, 1895 and they moved immediately to the farm which they were to occupy for 57 years. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1945. To this union five sons and four daughters were born, all of whom survive. The are Arthur, of Elkhorn, Nebr., Charles, who farms near the home place, Glenn and Katherine, who are at home, Harlan, of Kennard; and Ben, Mabel, Bernita and Mrs. Roma Dresher, all of Omaha. Mr. Gottsch was a charter member of the old Hayes Cornet Band which was organized in 1888 and which developed quite a reputation in early days as a organization until it ceased to function. Later he took part in orchestras at Bennington and Washington until approximately 1912. For almost thirty years he was an underwriter and adjuster in Washington and Douglas County for Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. He was a 50 year member of the Schleswig-Holstein Verein, a 16 year member of the B.P.S.B.V. and a long time member of the Modern Woodmen. He served on the Washington School Board for over thirty years. He was one of the organizers, as well as Secretary and Director of the Papio-Valley Drainage District of Washington and Douglas Counties. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Bennington. Funeral services were held from the residene at 2 p.m. Tuesday with interment at the German Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons and honorary pallbearers were William Schuldt, Louis Goedeker, Sam Holstein, Sam Cox, John Meeves and Knute Rasmussen.

Benhart married Helene Albertina Gottsch on January 31, 1895 in Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. Helene was born April 8, 1874. She was the daughter of Friedrich Gottsch and Antje Puck. Helene died on October 3, 1952 Bennington, Nebraska at 78 years of age.

Note: Benhart and Helene were second generation cousins.

Lena married Hans Hansen on December 27, 1892 in Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. Hans was born, May 15, 1866. Hans died November 28, 1917 Bennington, Nebraska at 51 years of age. He was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

Charles Otto married Anna Katherine Luschen on March 26, 1902 in Bennington, Nebraska. Anna was born 1883 Oldenburg, Germany. She was the daughter of Heinrich Luschen and Marie Kunneman. Anna died 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska at 77 years of age. She was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

Charles Otto Gottsch and Anna Katherine Luschen had the following children:

Margaret married Henry Misfeldt on August 1, 1898 in Bennington, Nebraska. Henry was the son of Fritz Misfeldt and Bertha Misfeldt. Henry died December 27, 1948 at 80 years of age. His body was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.

    98 ix. Henrietta Misfeldt, born March 28, 1901. Henrietta died October 9, 1919 at 18 years of age. Her body was interred Bennington, Nebraska German Cemetery.
