360 acres of lake and 9117 acres comprise Devil's Lake State Park, Wisconsin's most popular state park. Activities available include: hiking on nearly 30 miles of trail, 8 miles of off-road bike trails, and 22.4 miles of cross-country ski trails. Other activities include fishing, ice fishing, canoe and boat rental, beaches, swimming, SCUBA diving, picnic areas and shelters, camping, winter camping, sledding, toboggining, and innertubing, snowshoing, dogsledding, and dances are held on the weekends in the summer.

Fees: Devil's Lake honors Wisconsin State Park vehicle passes and also Federal Golden Eagle, Golden Age, and Golden Access Passports.

Comments: This is one of our favorite places to take a Sunday afternoon walk. It's so peaceful in there, it's easy to forget that you're still right in town.

High Cliff State Parkleaf

1147 acres, including 125 acres designated as a "State Natural Area", High Cliffs gets its name from the limestone Niagra Escarpment that travels the Lake Winnebago shoreline, Door County, and continues on to Niagra Falls in New York. Activities include a marina, historic sites, camping, picnic area, volley ball, ball diamonds, beach, observation tower, and 16 miles of trails for hiking and biking.

Location: On Lake Winnebago, near Sherwood in Calument County.

Comments: Beautiful! The view from the tower is amazing, and in the short time we had before the storm came in we saw several large birds. (4/25/04)
This time the weather was better, and we stayed longer. There's still plenty of things for us to do at this park. I think we've only just scratched the surface. (5/04)

Part of the 7 state trail known as the North Country Trail, Wisconsin is home 155 trail miles of the North Country Trail, including the original 60 mile section of backpack trail through the Chequamegon National Forest, built and named the "North Country Trail" prior to the idea of connecting 7 states with trail. The trial also passes through Cooper Falls State Park Activities include hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and camping.

Point Beach State Forestleaf

Enjoy 6 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and dunes jutting 7 miles into the lake at Point Beach State Forest. Occasionally the beach yeilds pieces of the several boats that sank here prior to the building a lighthouse, now opperated by the Coast Gaurd. Activities include: picnicing, nature programs, wading, boating, hunting, camping, winter camping, indoor and outdoor group camping, biking, and 11 miles of hiking and ski trails.

350 acres established by the city of Kaukauna as a "conservancy zone" to preserve the land in its natural state. The center's building is staffed by a naturalist and many volunteers. Thousand Islands in an important birding area. Activities include birding, live and mounted animal displays, an arrowhead collection, miles of hiking boardwalk and cross-country skiing trails, snoeshoeing, scenic overlooks, a canoe launch, fishing, and hunter safty.
